DAY 1. Flights to Melbourne, Albury (L,D)
Fly Carbon Neutral to Melbourne and join your friendly Fun Over 50 Holidays crew. Board our luxury ‘Gold Class’ coach, and travel responsibly knowing all coach emissions are 100% offset. We hit the road and travel our way north through the vineyards and grazing plains, arriving at Seymour in time for lunch. Our afternoon takes us onto Glenrowan – the gatekeeper of “Ned Kelly – the bushranger” history. It is the site of the final siege and capture of the Kelly Gang in 1880. Be transported back in time through live special effects and witness the Kelly’s take on the famous gunfight! We then take a short journey finishing our day at Albury. 1 Night: Albury Manor House
DAY 2. Albury to Corryong & Tumbarumba (B)
After a leisurely start this morning, we board the coach and head to Corryong, home to ‘The Man from Snowy River Bush Festival’. A unique bush gathering of mountain riders, poets, rodeo and various horse events. We arrive in time to witness the re-enactment of Banjo Patterson’s famous poem ‘The Man from Snowy River’. We then make our way to the festival and experience fabulous live entertainment, demonstrations and much more. With plenty of food and beverage stalls to choose from, you will easily settle your appetite as we join in the festivities. See all the action portrayed in the legendary poem, witness the thrills of the unique heritage and hear the iconic poem as it unfolds before our eyes. Mid-afternoon we travel to Tumbarumba and check in to our motel. After we settle in, the coach will return to the festival for the night events. *Lunch & dinner is at own expense. *Please note: Due to the remote region, accommodation is 55 minutes drive from the festival. Coach will make a run for those wanting to attend night events and will return each evening by 10pm. 2 Nights: Tumbarumba Motel
DAY 3. The Man from Snowy River Festival (B)
The Man from Snowy River Challenge is the showcase event of the Festival, which endeavours to find the modern day Man from Snowy River. When it comes to the test of good all round horsemanship, the Man from Snowy River Challenge is second to none. The festival has something for everyone and the next two days and nights are yours to do as you please. There’s the Entertainment Marquee with the Bush Poetry Comedy Show; the Working Cattle Dog Championships – a highly competitive event that brings out the best in owners and their dogs, the ute muster, arts & crafts markets, ‘Aussie Bush Idol’ talent quest, busking competition and the ‘Foz’ dog jump just to name a few. Witness the outstanding horsemanship and skill of today’s Australian Stockmen and women in exciting events such as Paterson’s Brumby Catch and the Kosciusko Stock Saddle Buckjump. Sunday we depart the festival and make our way into Kosciuszko National Park to admire its rugged alpine landscape and limestone gorges, arriving in Thredbo. *Lunch & dinner is at your own expense
DAY 4. The Man from Snowy River Festival, Thredbo (B,D)
Later today we depart the festival and make our way into Kosciuszko National Park to admire its rugged alpine landscape and limestone gorges, arriving in Thredbo. *Lunch at the festival is at your own expense. 2 Nights: Thredbo Alpine Hotel
DAY 5. Thredbo (B,LD)
This morning is at your leisure giving time to do some self-guided walks. Later we re-group and take the Kosciuszko Express Chairlift to Eagles Nest Restaurant for lunch which affords panoramic views of Mount Kosciuszko and Thredbo village below. After lunch, we join the Kosciuszko Express Chairlift to return to Thredbo before we take a thrilling luge ride. Guaranteed to bring a smile to your face, twist and turn down a 700m track through the Thredbo wilderness.
DAY 6. Cooma, Canberra (B,L,D)
Today we depart the Alpine region and make our way to Cooma, stopping for a visit to the Snowy Hydro Discovery Centre. Learn about this incredible engineering feat via a self-guided tour which will allow you to view the extensive photographic collection, models, displays and hands on exhibits; learn how the hydroelectricity scheme was constructed and powers peakload power for the ACT, NSW and Victoria. Back on the road, we journey to Canberra arriving in time for lunch in the Capital City before taking a guided tour at the Australian War Memorial and gathering for the Last Post Ceremony. 2 Night Stay: Crowne Plaza, Canberra
DAY 7. Canberra (B,L,D)
Today we tour icons of Canberra with our first experience being a guided tour of the Royal Australian Mint. Hear interesting stories about the history of coins in Australia and look out over the factory while you learn how coins are made. Next we take a guided tour of Parliament House walking through the historic halls discovering highlights such as the towering flagpole to the Great Hall tapestry, the architecture, art and craft, history and events. We move on to The National Arboretum, a mosaic of living forests, where break for lunch followed by guided coach tour.
DAY 8. Canberra – Newcastle (B,L,D)
Departing Canberra we hit the highway taking a cuppa break at the small village of Pheasants Nest. We continue to the Central Coast breaking here for lunch before arriving at Newcastle where we take an on-board guided tour of the town. 1 Night Stay: Rydges Hotel, Newcastle
DAY 9. Newcastle – Grafton (B,L,D)
Departing Newcastle, we are back on the road taking a cuppa break at Bulahdelah. Next we make our way to the iconic Slim Dusty Centre for lunch and a visit. This afternoon, we continue on to the coastal town of Grafton where we spend our final night together. 1 Night Stay: Bent Street Motor Inn, Grafton
DAY 10. Grafton to Brisbane (B,L)
We start our journey home this morning, on route visiting Tropical Fruit World to enjoy a plantation tractor tour, fruit tasting and lunch. From here we make our way to the Brisbane Transit Centre, arriving at approximately 4.30pm.
