DAY 1. BRISBANE – AGNES WATER (MT,L,D)
Departing Brisbane Coach Terminal aboard our luxury ‘Gold Class’ or ‘Diamond Class’ coach, we travel north, stopping briefly in Gympie for morning tea before continuing on to Childers for a spot of lunch and time to visit the Palace Backpackers Memorial. After lunch, we make our way to Agnes Water. 2 Night Stay: 1770 Lagoons Central Apartments, Agnes Waters
DAY 2. AGNES WATER (B,MT,L,D)
This morning we set out on the Pink Amphibious LARC. The 1770 LARC! Paradise Tour takes us along the coastline of Eurimbula National Park, where we are given commentary on wildlife and the history of Bustard Bay. We cross four tidal creeks and take a 4WD tour up the steep climb to the historic Bustard Head Lightstation. After our exciting day we return to 1770 Lagoons Central Apartment Resort.
DAY 3/4 HERON ISLAND (B,L,D)
An early start today takes us to Gladstone Marina to board the Heron Island fast cat. Located within the World Heritage-listed Great Barrier Reef, Heron Island is a haven for nature lovers, surrounded by pristine beaches and brilliant blue waters. Enjoy two nights at Heron Island Resort, where we join naturalist eco guides for daily activities exploring the island’s birdlife, native flora and fauna, and remarkable coral cay environment. We check into our Reef Rooms, located near the beach with filtered reef views. At low tide, join a guided reef walk and discover some of the fascinating marine life found across the coral reef. 2 Night Stay: Heron Island Resort
**Fast cat transfers take 2 hours and are in open waters. Those who suffer motion sickness are advised to take the necessary precautions. Optionally, at additional expense you may like to organise return helicopter transfers from Gladstone.
DAY 5. GLADSTONE (B,L,D)
We enjoy a leisurely final morning on beautiful Heron Island, with time to soak up the island atmosphere, wander the beach and enjoy the spectacular reef surroundings before saying farewell to this special coral cay. In the early afternoon, we board the Heron Island fast cat for our return journey across the waters of the Great Barrier Reef to Gladstone. Back on the mainland, we make our way to our hotel and settle in for our overnight stay, before coming together for dinner this evening. 1 Night Stay: Mercure, Gladstone
Day 6. Carnarvon Gorge (B,MT,L,D)
Departing Gladstone, we break at Greycliffe Homestead for morning tea and a tour. This heritage-listed homestead is the original family home of the Nott family, local pastoralists who owned and operated Greycliffe Station. We stop in Rolleston for some lunch before arriving into Carnarvon Gorge. Carnarvon Gorge is an oasis hidden in the rugged ranges of Queensland’s Central Highlands featuring towering white sandstone cliffs, spectacular scenery, incredible bushwalks, pockets of rainforest and amazing diversity of flora and fauna. On arrival at Carnarvon Gorge Wilderness Lodge, we check into unique timber and canvas Safari Cabins that ooze outback charm and blend unobtrusively into the natural bush land of this hidden oasis. DAY 7. Carnarvon Gorge (B,L,D)
We have an early start this morning to meet our representatives from Australian Nature Guides who take us on an easy early-morning stroll near the lodge to discover the diverse flora and fauna that call this national park home. For those seeking more adventure, a mid-morning guided walk leads to the enchanting Moss Garden, where sandstone walls drip with fresh water, nourishing a lush carpet of mosses, ferns, and liverworts. Beneath towering tree ferns, a waterfall tumbles into a cool, crystal pool. Along the way, we pause to enjoy a picnic lunch surrounded by the beauty of the wilderness. Guests preferring a gentler pace may choose to relax and soak up the lodge’s tranquil setting.
**The Moss Garden walk is an approximate 3 hour walk with a lunch break and is suited to those with a higher physical rating.
DAY 8. ROMA (B,L,D)
Departing Carnarvon Gorge this morning, we make a stop in Injune before arriving into Roma for our overnight stay. 1 Night Stay: Explorers Inn Roma
DAY 9. ROMA – BRISBANE COACH TERMINAL (B,L)
Homeward bound this morning, we break at historic Childers taking time to visit the Palace Backpackers Memorial. After lunch at the Dingo Creek Vineyard, we make our way back to the Brisbane Coach Terminal arriving late afternoon.
