Day 1: Tuesday – Brisbane (D)
Your Festival of Outback Opera adventure begins today. Check-in at Roma Street Station to board the Spirit of the Outback Rail journey. Your travel includes your sleeper and the dining experience in the Tucker Box restaurant. Sit back and relax. The train is scheduled to depart at 6.10pm. Overnight on the Spirit of the Outback train
Day 2: Wednesday – Longreach (B,L,HT)
Soak up the romance of Rail through the spectacular Drummond Range via Bogantungan and Hannon’s Gap. The rail journey today takes us through the quaint townships of Alpha, Jericho, Barcaldine, and Ilfracombe. This region steeped in heritage, offers a strong sense of the pioneering spirit of Western Queensland prior to your arrival in Longreach. Arrive at the Longreach Railway Station where you’ll be met by your Outback Aussie Tours Driver and Host. Enjoy an evening to settle into Longreach at your accommodation. 6 nights at Saltbush Retreat, Longreach
Day 3: Thursday – Winton (B,L,S)
Start the morning with a breakfast basket at your accommodation. Travel and enjoy the morning light on the coolibah-lined creeks and vast open plains on our way to Winton. Late morning, explore the Waltzing Matilda Centre. After lunch at the Centre, we travel to the Australian Age of Dinosaurs, perched high on a mesa formation with panoramic views. Next enjoy some retail time at the Reception Area before joining the signature Outback Opera ‘Dark Sky Serenade’ outdoor gala concert. Post-performance, enjoy a light supper and explore Dinosaur Canyon as a fun finish to an incredible day before returning to Longreach.
Day 4: Friday – Longreach (B,L,D)
Enjoy a late start to the morning, before joining the Opera ‘Long Lunch’ at the Qantas Founders Museum where you will dine in style. As the flavours dance on your palate, the music takes flight, with rich arias and delicious duets make this an afternoon to remember. This afternoon/evening join the festivities at the Longreach Show – a lively celebration of rural life featuring everything from livestock displays to craft exhibitions. Catch the festival performance ‘All Together Now’ at the Show and enjoy dinner at a local venue.
Day 5: Saturday – Longreach (B,L,S)
This morning, we visit the historical Longreach Railway Station, boarding the unforgettable 2000 class rail motor. Take a different perspective of the country as we encounter wildlife and bring alive the numerous waterholes, passing scrub and grasslands. Step off the rail motor for a short Mulga Walk, learn of bush medicines and Leander Sand Ridge secrets. Our rail motor ambles through the western side of the sand ridge and onto the floodplains and waterhole of the Darr River to boil the billy for smoko. We return to our accommodation for a break, prior to tonight’s Festival of Outback Opera event at Camden Park Station. This working cattle station hosts the spectacular ‘Singing in the Night’, a majestic concert that showcases Opera’s best loved hits among the spellbinding colours of the outback sunset and fading twilight.
Day 6: Sunday – Longreach (B,L,D)
Enjoy a lazy start to the day with an easy morning before attending the renowned sing along event ‘Sing, Sing, Sing’ and revel in the backdrop that is the Drovers Place. Afterwards, discover the one pub town of Ilfracombe, with its machinery mile and famous Wellshot Hotel. Quench your thirst with a welcome drink and lunch. The oldest pub in the west has loads of quirky and interesting memorabilia not to mention a little history that could keep you entertained for years. Return to your accommodation for a break. Tonight, it’s time to dust off your riding boots and break out your ballgown for an ‘Opera Ball’ like no other. This relaxed yet stylish gathering embodies the spirit and iconography of the Outback with its casual approach that adds just enough glitz to ensure the evening is a memorable one.
Day 7: Monday – Longreach (B,L,D)
This morning, we explore the fascinating themed galleries at the Australian Stockman’s Hall of Fame. Take your seat at the exciting Stockman’s Live Show to witness the traditional Stockman’s skills that are still used today. We share a special lunch with the Stockman himself after the show. This afternoon, we soak up the spirit of Australian aviation history with an informative Airpark Tour and time to the explore the Qantas Founders Museum. Enjoy dinner afterwards before we head back to the accommodation.
Day 8: Tuesday – Longreach (B,L)
This morning, spend your final morning at leisure in downtown Longreach. We join a special cruise on the Thomson River, catching 360-degree sweeping river and floodplain views as you travel on the M.V Longreach Explorer. Enjoy a BBQ Lunch with live entertainment as you finish your festival adventure. Check in for your flight home or your next port of call via a QantasLink flight departing for Brisbane.
