DAY 1. Sat – Board Spirit of the Outback (D)
Join us at Platform 10, Roma Street Station in Brisbane, where you’ll meet your tour host and check-in to your sleeper cabin. At 2.40pm, we embark on an unforgettable journey aboard the Spirit of the Outback, offering an authentic and immersive experience of Queensland’s captivating outback. Enjoy the comfort of the air-conditioned train, adorned with thematic touches, as we venture westward. Along the way, we pass through the charming heritage towns of the Central West. Indulge in a delightful dining experience onboard, in the themed restaurant car serving up hearty Aussie meals. 1 Night Stay: First class cabin aboard the Spirit of the Outback
DAY 2. Sun – Arrive Longreach (B,L,D)
Sit back and watch the outback unfold as we journey through changing landscapes and rugged terrain. By mid-afternoon, we arrive in Barcaldine, then board our luxurious ‘Gold Class’ or opulent ‘Diamond Class’ coach, ensuring responsible travel with 100% offset coach emissions. Visit the famous Wellshot Hotel for a drink with the locals before arriving in Longreach for our three night stay. 3 nights: 3 Night Stay: Longreach Motor Inn (Gold) or Mitchell Grass Retreat (Diamond)
DAY 3. Mon – Winton Day Tour (B,MT,L,D)
This morning we journey from Longreach to Winton. On arrival, we take a guided tour of the Australian Age of Dinosaurs Exhibit, the world’s largest collection of unique Australian dinosaur fossils and the most productive fossil preparation laboratory in the Southern Hemisphere. Listen and learn from dinosaur enthusiasts, and capture the fossil fever that has gripped the area since the first bones of gigantic Sauropod ‘Elliott’ were discovered. Enjoy a country pub counter lunch before our return to Longreach.
DAY 4. Tue – Longreach (B,L,D)
We begin the day with a privately guided tour of the Qantas Founders Museum, exploring iconic aircraft like the Boeing 747 and the new Super Constellation display. Gain unique access to areas typically unseen by passengers while learning about their history. As the day warms up, we retreat indoors to the museum’s interactive exhibits before heading to the Australian Stockman’s Hall of Fame. Here, air-conditioned comfort meets rich bush history, bringing to life stories of bushrangers, shearers, stockmen, and drovers.
DAY 5. Wed – Longreach to Emerald (B,L,D)
Departing Longreach, we stop by the Barcaldine Tree of Knowledge enroute to Alpha, seeing the 27 murals that tell the story of rural life in the region. On arrival at Rubyvale in the Gemfields, we enjoy lunch and a tour of the Miners Heritage walk in Sapphire Mine. Our afternoon takes us to Emerald. Overnight: Western Gateway Motel, Emerald
DAY 6. Thu – Emerald to 1770 (B,L,D)
Departing Emerald we travel through crop and cattle country arriving at the township of Duaringa for a morning cuppa. We continue on heading east, breaking at Raglan for lunch before finishing our day at the seaside village of Town of 1770. 2 Night Stay: 1770 Lagoons Central Apartment Resort
DAY 7. Fri – 1770 (B,MT,L,D)
This morning we experience the unique fun of the pink amphibious LARC. Take in the highlights of Agnes Water by land and sea. Set out on a full day adventure crossing tidal creeks, sandy beaches, and 4WD drive trails, as you explore the Town of 1770 and Bustard Bay. Stop for lunch (included) on Middle Island, take in the views from the Bustard Head lighthouse, then get your adrenaline pumping as you try sandboarding (optional) down the dunes of Middle Island. Return to 1770 Lagoons Resort for our farewell dinner.
DAY 8. Sat – 1770 to Brisbane (B,MT)
Homeward bound this morning, we break at historic Childers. We drive past the Backpackers Memorial before making our way home via a lunch break in Gympie arriving at the Brisbane Coach Terminal late afternoon.
