Day 1: Wednesday – Longreach
Arrive in Longreach by QantasLink flight or Spirit of the Outback train where you will be met by your Savannah Guides Operator driver-guide and transferred to your accommodation. 2 nights Longreach Motor Inn, Longreach
Day 2: Thursday – Longreach (B,L,D)
Receive a warm welcome to Longreach at the historic Rosebank Station, originally settled as a sheep and cattle station some 100 years ago. Enjoy a picturesque tour, morning tea and hear stories of yesteryear. Rosebank was famously visited in 1959 by Princess Alexandra and Princess Alice. The Princesses stayed in a specially built wing, fittingly named the ‘Princess Wing’. Wander the world-class Qantas Founders Museum, eloquently telling the story of the founding of Qantas. View marvelous interpretive and interactive exhibits then join a guided Airpark Tour. Late afternoon, experience the warm hospitality of local graziers on a tour of Camden Park Station followed by sunset drinks and nibbles and an exclusive dinner.
Day 3: Friday – Winton (B,L,D)
Catch the heritage Rail Motor from Longreach for a one-way Great Darr River Rail Run tour before boarding the coach to Darr River Downs Station. Learn about the evolution of the pastoral industry on a private tour and enjoy lunch with the owners of this heritage listed homestead. This afternoon be prepared to be impressed with the changing landscapes as we travel to Winton. After dinner at the iconic North Gregory Hotel, we wander next door to the Royal Open-Air Theatre built in 1937, where you can sit back and enjoy a Sunday classic movie under the stars! 2 nights Boulder Opal Motor Inn or Winton Outback Motel, Winton
Day 4: Saturday – Winton (B,L,D)
Today we are doing all things local in Winton! Learn how Australian transport pioneers carved our transport network at the Heritage Truck and Machinery Museum. Enjoy a town tour discovering the quirky Arno’s Wall and play a tune on what is believed to be the world’s only musical fence. We will visit the Waltzing Matilda Centre, a museum that tells the story of Waltzing Matilda, Australia’s unofficial national anthem, the Winton region and the outback. Mid-afternoon, we take a short drive out of town to the Australian Age of Dinosaurs Museum, perched high on a spectacular mesa (majestic flat top hills). Join a guided interpretive tour of the laboratory and collection room. Take in the moment at our very special sunset barbecue overlooking the plains where dinosaurs once roamed before being immersed in the Gondwana Observatory night experience.
Day 5: Sunday – Longreach (B,L,D)
Returning to Longreach this morning, we explore the fascinating themed galleries at the Australian Stockman’s Hall of Fame and discover inspiring stories of our pioneering heroes. Take your seat at the exciting Stockman’s Life Live Show to witness the traditional Stockman skills that are still used today including amazing horsemanship and the action of a live muster. Late afternoon, unwind on the Drover’s Sunset Cruise with tasty onboard nibbles followed by a two-course table service dinner under the stars at Smithy’s Outback Dinner & Show. 1 night Longreach Motor Inn, Longreach
Day 6: Monday – Longreach (B)
Your outback adventure will sadly come to an end when following breakfast, we transfer you to the airport or railway station.
Day 7: Tuesday – Arrive Brisbane (B)
For guests returning by rail, the Spirit of the Outback is scheduled to arrive into Brisbane at 11.50am.
