Day 1. Brisbane to Stanthorpe (MT,L,D)
Board our luxury ‘Gold Class’ coach at Brisbane Transit Centre on Roma Street, to travel through Cunningham’s Gap to Warwick and the Abbey of the Roses ex convent. We take in a tour of this stately manor house then enjoy lunch before continuing on to The Summit at Stanthorpe to get our first taste of the local wines and liquors at Castle Glen Vineyard & Liqueurs. Castle Glen Distillery is the only Whiskey manufacturer in Queensland offering all natural world class liqueurs, red wine, white wine, sparkling wine, fortified wines, boutique beer, ciders, and specialty items such as jams and fudge! We then make our way to our accommodation to check-in. Tonight, we dine out at historic O’Mara’s Hotel, built in 1910 on the site of the original single story hotel. The hotel still has the olde world charm that made O’Mara’s a big part of Stanthorpe life. There is even a resident ghost that still makes an appearance now and again. 3 Night Stay: The Vines Motel and Cottages, Stanthorpe
Day 2. Stanthorpe (B,L,D)
We begin our day at Law Dogs Australia, Australia’s first privately owned breeding and training kennel open to the public. Be captivated as you see the dogs training for future arrest scenarios, controlling suspects, finding hidden scent, working around agility equipment, developing their bite skills, and barking on command. It is an hour of entertainment you will never forget! We then travel through the Sirromet Wines Vineyard, and visit the Pyramid as we make our way to Ballandean Estate Wines for a guided tour of wine making and bottling process. We then sample the wines before sitting down to enjoy authentic Italian fare in the Barrel Room. Our afternoon is spent mixing with the locals taking time downtown for some retail therapy. Tonight, enjoy real traditional Italian fare at Anna’s Restaurant.
Day 3. Stanthorpe (B,L,D)
This morning we make our way to the Storm King Dam, water supply of Stanthorpe. After a short visit here, we move onto the Washpool Farm Soaperie, a farm and store dedicated to ethical, authentic and nourishing bath and body care along with beautiful giftware. Next we get our taste buds going with a visit to Jamworks, a gourmet food larder stocking local jams, butters, marmalades, jellies, pickles and much more… a food lovers delight. Lunch today is at the Queensland College of Wine Tourism who present us with locally sourced medley of mains paired perfectly to local wines. Our afternoon has a wee bit of Christmas spirit, being it only two months away from Christmas, with a visit to the Granite Belt Christmas Farm. Step through the doors and capture the magic of Christmas in the Mistletoe Boutique Christmas Store. Taste, indulge and enjoy an extensive range of Belgian Chocolates which are all made onsite. Explore and feed Santa’s animals, including Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer and see the farm of 11,000 real Christmas trees. Making our way back to the hotel, we stop for a visit at the Stanthorpe Heritage Museum. Tonight, we dine out at the Blue Pot Pantry a former vineyard with magic views over Stanthorpe.
Day 4. Return to Brisbane (B,MT,L)
We farewell our lovely hosts at Stanthorpe and travel via Warwick to Bestbrook Mountain Resort for morning tea and wagon ride around the property. You will enjoy the old fashioned hospitality and magnificent mountain views. Wander around the property, check out the collection of old machinery and all the treasures from yesteryear hidden throughout the Coach House. Back on the road we take a scenic country drive via Boonah to Beaudesert where we enjoy a long lunch with opera performance by Tom McCahon ‘the man with 1000 voices’ at The Overflow Estate 1895. The Estate is truly a special haven of mystic reverence and unsurpassed rural beauty and this long lunch will be a grand finale to our wine country capers.
