Day 1. Brisbane to Stanthorpe (MT,L,D)
Travelling ‘Diamond Class’, we depart Brisbane and to travel through Cunningham’s Gap to Warwick. Enjoy morning tea and tour at the Abbey Boutique Hotel ex convent before discovering the spirit of the rodeo and the cowboy at the Australian Rodeo and Heritage Centre. We continue on to Stanthorpe for a lunch paired with wine experience at Heritage Estate Wines. before checking into out accommodation. Tonight, we dine out at historic O’Mara’s Hotel, built in 1910 on the site of the original single story hotel. The hotel still has the olde world charm that made O’Mara’s a big part of Stanthorpe life. There is even a resident ghost that still makes an appearance now and again.. 3 Night Stay: The Vines Motel and Cottages, Stanthorpe
Day 2. Stanthorpe (B,L,D)
Today we set out to travel to Tenterfield, made famous by a song by Peter Allen. Here we collect a local guide for a tour of famous landmarks such as the Tenterfield Saddler. Tenterfield has been home to many famous faces, including politicians, war heroes, and well known celebrities such as Peter Allen and Banjo Patterson. From here we travel via the Pyramid enroute to Ballandean Estate Wines for a guided tour of wine making and bottling process, followed by wine tasting and lunch in the Barrel Room Restaurant. Our afternoon takes us to Kents Saddlery for a behind the scenes guided tour for an insight to a handcrafted leather workshop, talk with Saddlers and hear the history of Saddlery. Tonight we dine out at the Blue Pot Pantry, a former vineyard with magic views over Stanthorpe.
Day 3. Stanthorpe (B,L,D)
This morning take your taste buds on a journey during our visit at The Truffle Discovery Centre. The rare and highly valuable French Black Perigord Truffle is often heard of in culinary circles but in commercial farming areas suddenly becomes very secretive due to security and bio-security reasons. The Truffle Discovery Centre unearths all that is truffles taking us on a guided tour of the truffle trees followed by talk whilst tasting truffle products and other gourmet food products including honey fusions, chocolate pasta curls, jams, sauces and caramels. Step back in time at Stanthorpe Heritage Museum, housing two collections of national significance and one of state significance. Subjects include pastoral, tin mining, orcharding, military, Aboriginal, Italian, Red Cross, medical, ‘Make-do’ and social history. Next enjoy a wee bit of Christmas spirit, being only three months away from Christmas with a visit to the Granite Belt Christmas Farm. Step through the doors and capture the magic of Christmas in The Mistletoe Boutique Christmas Store. We break for lunch here, explore and feed Santa’s animals, including Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer and see the farm of 11,000 real Christmas trees. Afterwards taste the local wines and liquors at Castle Glen Vineyard & Liqueurs, the only Whiskey manufacturer in Queensland offering all natural world class liqueurs, red wine, white wine, sparkling wine and fortified wines. Tonight, we dine out at Anna’s Italian Restaurant.
Day 4. Return to Brisbane (B,MT,L)
We farewell our lovely hosts at Stanthorpe and travel via Warwick to Bestbrook Mountain Resort for morning tea and wagon ride around the property. You will enjoy the old fashioned hospitality and magnificent mountain views. Wander around the property, check out the collection of old machinery and all the treasures from yesteryear hidden throughout the Coach House. Back on the road we take a scenic country drive via Boonah to Beaudesert where we enjoy a long lunch at The Overflow Estate 1895. The Estate is truly a special haven of mystic reverence and unsurpassed rural beauty and this long lunch will be a grand finale to our wine country capers.
