An epic Lake Eyre safari flying over the the Channel Country and western river systems that make up the Lake Eyre Basin. Fly over Lake Eyre North & South, the famous Marree Man, visit Birdsville, overnight in Port Augusta and lunch in Charleville.
At 7am check-in at Brisbane Domestic Terminal, Brisbane Airport to board your flight for an unforgettable two days. At 8am depart Brisbane and fly over the Darling Downs agricultural farmlands and into mulga country. Travel west over the Warrego, Paroo & Bulloo Rivers, Cooper Creek and the Diamantina River before landing in Birdsville, where you will have approximately 1.5 hrs to look around – check out the iconic Birdsville Hotel, the visitor information centre and perhaps even drop over to the Birdsville Bakery and try a curried camel pie. Lunch will be served on the aircraft as you leave Birdsville. Along the way, Graham will provide comprehensive commentary about the western river systems that make up the Lake Eyre Basin and some other interesting history. Departing Birdsville, we turn south flying over Goyder Lagoon, see the Simpson Desert and Lake Eyre. Graham will be telling you some interesting facts as we look at this truly amazing expansive area. Continue flying south over the Marree Man and Lake Torrens before landing in Port Augusta and being transferred to tonight’s accommodation. 2-course dinner this evening at the Standpipe Motel Restaurant. A full buffet breakfast is included this morning before transferring to our plane and beginning our return to Brisbane via St. George. Fly over Wilpena Pound (in the Flinders Ranges), past Lake Frome, the Corner Country and Paroo River before stopping at St. George for lunch at Riversands Winery, Queensland’s most western winery on the banks of the Balonne River. Arrive back at Brisbane Domestic Airport Terminal at approximately 5pm.
