Day 1. Depart Brisbane to Roma (MT,L,D)
Depart on our opulent ‘Diamond Class’ coach from Brisbane Coach Terminal, and travel responsibly knowing all coach emissions are 100% offset. We travel through the Lockyer Valley and onto Toowoomba where we have morning tea at Picnic Point. A perfect opportunity for a photo of the Lockyer Valley below. We continue on to Chinchilla, breaking here for lunch before moving on and settling down for the night at Roma. 1 Night Stay: Roma Explorers Inn
Day 2. Roma to Charleville (B,L,D)
Embark on a day of exploration starting with a town tour of Roma. Then, brace yourself for an unforgettable experience at Roma’s Cattle Saleyards, Australia’s largest cattle selling facility. Witness the vibrant world of Roma Cattle Sales as a local grazier guides you through the heart of the premier livestock auction. Feel the energy in the bustling auction arena, where buyers and sellers converge to trade top- quality cattle. Continuing to Charleville, for lunch and a guided tour of Hotel Corones, the social hub for rich and famous visitors during the heady wool industry boom years. Tonight we experience the Big Sky Twilight Tour at The Cosmos Centre. Day 3. Charleville to Toogunna Plains Station (B,L,D)
This morning, we delve into the ‘nitty gritty’ of Charleville’s WWII secret. On a guided tour of the original ‘Top Secret’ sites, discover Charleville Airport’s surprising wartime role with the USAAF. Continuing west to the opal town of Quilpie, we collect a passionate local guide for a town tour. Mixed in with quirky, insider stories, we’ll explore Quilpie town, Baldy Top Lookout, St Finbarr’s Opal Altar and more. Our afternoon takes us to Toogunna Plains, a 4th generation sheep and cattle property, located in the heart of the Channel Country. Day 4. Toogunna Plains Station (B,MT,L,D)
Wake to blissful splendour on this 130,000-acre property and tuck into a gourmet cooked breakfast – the perfect start to your day! Next, join our hosts on a morning station tour for an insightful look into the unique challenges and joys of living on the land. After lunch, enjoy some free time to relax into your outback station adventure. Early afternoon, we’ll drive the short distance to the Eromanga Natural History Museum, to meet Australia’s largest dinosaur from some 95-million years ago. On an enthralling one-hour tour, we’ll watch expert guides demonstrate fossil preparation, see the incredible megafauna fossils, and witness these ancient giants come to life in a state- of-the-art multi-media presentation. Toast the warm, sunset afterglow with drinks and canapes on the Museum’s spectacular outdoor pavilion. Then savour an exclusive ‘Taste of the Outback’ long-table dinner in their multi-million-dollar Reception Gallery.
Day 5. Windorah to Longreach & Mitchell Grass Retreat (B,L,D)
After a hearty station breakfast, we’ll head north and plunge into the heart of the Channel Country, We break at Windorah for lunch before we are back on the road travelling along the Channel Country Way. We pass through the town of Jundah and just north of here see The Native Well, used for centuries as a valuable water source by Aboriginal people. We’ll make a photo stop at picturesque Swanvale Lookout. It straddles the halfway mark between Jundah and Stonehenge on the Johnstone Range. We break at Stonehenge for refreshments before our journey to Longreach where we check-in to our glamping tents. 3 Night Stay: Mitchell Grass Retreat Glamping
Day 6. Winton touring (B,L,D)
Explore Winton’s rich offerings starting at the Australian Age of Dinosaurs, home to the world’s largest collection of Australian dinosaur fossils. Enjoy the March of Titanosaurs exhibition and Dinosaur Canyon. After lunch, the Waltzing Matilda Centre and Qantilda Museum await, adding historical insights and art exhibitions. This day promises a fascinating blend of history, art, and ancient marvels.
Day 7. Longreach touring (B,L,D)
This morning discover the Qantas Founders Museum, where a Museum and Airpark tour unveils the captivating saga of one of aviation’s pioneers. Our journey continues to the renowned Australian Stockman’s Hall of Fame, where bush history takes centre stage. We’re immersed in tales of bushrangers, shearers, stockmen, and drovers followed by a live Stockman’s Show. Tonight, as the sun sets, we embark on a Thomson River cruise, relishing the local flora and fauna, pausing for a breathtaking sunset. The day crescendos with a captivating outback dinner, an entertaining show by a campfire, and the celestial spectacle of outback stars.
Day 8. Spirit of the Outback (B,L,D)
Embarking on the journey back, we bid farewell to Longreach and step aboard the Spirit of the Outback. Enriched by the ever-changing landscape, we savour the culinary delights and fine wines of the Tuckerbox restaurant. 1 Night Stay: Sleeper Cabin aboard the Spirit of the Outback
Day 9. Arrive Brisbane (B)
As the new day dawns, we awaken to the mesmerising vista of cane fields and the majestic Glass House Mountains. Our voyage concludes as we arrive at the Brisbane Transit Centre, marking the end of our remarkable expedition.
