DAY 1. Arrive Cairns (D)
Flights arrive in Cairns where we meet our Fun Over Fifty host and take our transfers to our hotel for check-in. This evening we enjoy welcome drinks and dinner in 5 star luxury. 6 Night Stay: Pullman International Hotel, Cairns
DAY 2. Mossman Gorge, Port Douglas (B,L,D)
This morning we immerse ourselves in the local indigenous culture with a visit to the lush Mossman Gorge, where we meet our indigenous guide and set off through the enchanting rainforest on a guided nature walk. Learn about the ecosystem through the lens of Aboriginal culture as your guide relates Dreamtime stories and local tribal customs while pointing out plants used for traditional medicine and bush tucker. Witness the traditional welcome ‘smoking’ ceremony and enjoy traditional bush tea and damper. Next, we travel to Port Douglas where we enjoy lunch and time to wander the main street. GGP
DAY 3. Green Island (B,D)
Discover the treasures of Australia’s Great Barrier Reef on this half-day tour to Green Island, a protected coral cay. Cruise from Cairns aboard a luxury catamaran and enjoy ample time on the island to spend as you wish. Observe the underwater world where you might spot giant clams, tropical fish, and coral gardens aboard a glass-bottom boat. The waters around the island are home to a large population of sea turtles who are often found in the seagrass and reefs close to shore. This tropical island paradise is also home to over 120 plant species and vibrant bird life. After exploring the reef and island we return to Cairns where you can enjoy an afternoon at leisure. **Lunch is at own expense today. GGP
DAY 4. Chillagoe Caves (B,MT,L,D)
Embark on an outback trip on a full day tour to Chillagoe Caves. We break for morning tea at the township of Dimbulah before making our way to Chillagoe-Mungana Caves National Park. Join a ranger guided tour and explore the Chillagoe Caves discovering fossilized remains of the ancient coral reefs over 400 million years old. Once an inland sea, these limestone labyrinths are a spectacular sight to see. We then visit the remains of the Chillagoe copper smelters and stop at Balancing Rock before our return to Cairns. GGP
DAY 5. Cape Tribulation (B,L,D)
Today we venture into the Daintree National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, part of one of Australia’s largest remaining stands of tropical rainforest with a last refuge for some unique plants and animals which have evolved here over many millions of years. Sit back and relax on a cruise along the Daintree River, spotting saltwater crocodiles, reptiles, exotic birds, and butterflies that make their home in the mangrove wetlands. Crossing the Daintree River by vehicular ferry, we make our way to Cape Tribulation. We stop and take in the spectacular views from Mount Alexandra Lookout, where on a clear day you can see all the way to the Great Barrier Reef. From here it’s on to Daintree Heritage Lodge for lunch before our afternoon offers leisure time to stroll along the white sandy beaches and boardwalk at Cape Tribulation. GGP
DAY 6. Kuranda (B,L,D)
Travelling on the Kuranda Scenic Railway, learn about regional history as the train winds through Barron Gorge National Park and wraps around mountain curves for spectacular vistas. On arrival at Kuranda village, we join the Kuranda Riverboat for a 45-minute rainforest river cruise among Kuranda’s wet tropics. Sit back and relax as your guide point out flora and fauna along the Barron River. Enjoy time at the village markets before returning to Cairns via the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway, offering an aerial view of the rain forest as you glide above the treetops. Tonight, we visit the Cairns Aquarium without the crowds, with special after-hours access. With a personal guide take in the best views of the sharks, rays, and tropical fish. We return to our hotel for farewell drinks and dinner. GGP
DAY 7. Depart Cairns (B)
Enjoy one last Far North Queensland breakfast, maybe take some time to walk through the esplanade markets before we transfer to the airport for our respective flights home.
