DAY 2. THE GHAN, ALICE SPRINGS

DAY 3. ALICE SPRINGS
This morning is yours at leisure before joining your afternoon tour of the Alice Springs town. Stop at the Telegraph Station, established in 1872 to relay messages between Darwin and Adelaide, and the Royal Flying Doctor Service, which provides a ‘mantle of safety’ to the people of the outback. Visit the School of the Air, an educational service for children living in remote areas, and Alice Springs Reptile Centre. Conclude with a panoramic view of Alice Springs from the top of Anzac Hill. DAY 4. LEISURE DAY
Explore Alice Springs at your own pace. This small outback town is rich in history. Enjoy its many walking trails, which are well signposted and provide insightful facts on the region. No trip to Alice is complete without experiencing a camel ride for yourself – these gracious animals and their Afghan handlers played a vital role in outback history, their service reflected in The Ghan’s emblem. DAY 5. WEST MACDONNELL RANGES
Seeing the dramatic West MacDonnell Ranges is one thing, exploring them up close is quite another. This full-day tour includes unforgettable walks at Simpsons Gap and Standley Chasm, and onto Glen Helen Homestead for an authentic bushman’s lunch. Visit Ormiston Gorge and then have afternoon tea at Ellery Creek, one of the Territory’s favourite swimming waterholes. (B,L)
DAY 6. BOARD THE GHAN IN ALICE SPRINGS
Join The Ghan to travel further north towards Darwin. Back on the train there’s time to reflect on your exploration of the Red Centre. OVERNIGHT: The Ghan (B,D)
DAY 7. THE GHAN, KATHERINE AND DARWIN
Today you will discover the wonders of Nitmiluk (Katherine Gorge) with a variety of Off Train Excursions to choose from before continuing to your final destination, Darwin. (B,L)
