Day 1. Wednesday – Arrive Longreach
Today’s the day you will experience the changing outback landscapes from your plane or train window. Arrive in Longreach and transfer to your accommodation. Those travelling by train will arrive this evening. Stay the next five nights at Kinnon & Co’s The Staging Post accommodation or the Longreach Motel (depending on availability) in the heart of Longreach. Look out for the special Outback Pioneers VIP (Very Important Pioneer!) gift in your room. *Dinner tonight own arrangements. *Flights own arrangements.
Day 2. Thursday – Nogo Station Experience, Qantas Founders Museum, Welcome Home Stonegrill Dinner
At 6.45am you will be served a Buffet Breakfast at the Welcome Home Café Tearoom. Today you’re in the deep end with the Nogo Station Experience, which immerses you in the essence of outback life. Our historic station was once part of Bowen Downs and is the home of Abigail (Nee Kinnon) and her family. Head to the shearing sheds to capture all the sights and sounds of a champion sheep shearer at work. Go on Station Safari on a modified double-decker bus, out across the sunlit plains where you can spot a range of feral, native and domestic animals. See the ruins of Captain Starlight’s stockyards and a re-creation of his camp by the billabong. Then you’ll be welcomed to the homestead for an impressive home-baked ‘smoko’ featuring Abigail’s Outback Kitchen delights. After Nogo you’ll arrive at the Qantas Founders Museum where your entry is included. Take your time to enjoy the museum and at 1pm the guide will start your tour of the 747 and 707 planes. You will be transferred back to your accommodation at 4pm to refresh before dinner. Tonight at 6pm you will be at the Welcome Home for a Stonegrill dinner. BYO alcoholic drinks. (B, MT, D)
Day 3. Friday – Cobb & Co Stagecoach Experience, Starlight’s River Cruise
Begin the day with a buffet breakfast served at 7.30am at the Welcome Home Café Tearoom then start your outback adventure by stepping into the shoes of early pioneers and joining the Cobb & Co Stagecoach Experience, including the stagecoach ride on the old Longreach to Windorah mail route, home-baked scones and tea in The Welcome Home café, followed by a classic Australian movie and then the hilarious Harry Redford Old Time Tent Show. Enjoy a Billy Can Lunch while watching enjoying the Show. This afternoon you will have time to enjoy the main street of Longreach and spend your complimentary $50 gift voucher at The Station Store. Wander back to your accommodation at your leisure. From 4.30pm, transfer to the Thomson River for our Starlight’s Cruise Experience. Board the historic paddlewheeler for a sunset cruise. The cruise is followed by a hearty stockman’s dinner around the campfire with bush poetry then the Starlight’s Spectacular Sound-and-Light Picture Show featuring a special movie commissioned by the Kinnon’s to celebrate our legendary local hero Harry Redford. Day 4. Saturday – Winton Tour
After enjoying your breakfast basket at 6.45am the bus will pick you up in front of the Welcome Home. It’s an early start for the a full-day Winton Discovery Experience. Visit the award-winning Australian Age of Dinosaurs museum including the exciting new Dinosaur Canyon and the Collection Room. A visit to the Winton Opal Gems before enjoying lunch at the historic North Gregory Hotel and then explore the landmark Waltzing Matilda Centre before heading back to Longreach. Refresh and at 6pm wander over to the Happy Valley Chinese Restaurant to enjoy a traditional outback Chinese banquet. (B,L,D)
Day 5. Sunday – Australian Stockman’s Hall of Fame
After enjoying a breakfast basket in your room at 8.45am you will be transferred to The Australian Stockman’s Hall of Fame to start the morning with Scotty’s Stories of the Past – a 1-hour tour of the Sculpture Walk. Then there’s plenty of time to explore the five galleries of the museum marvelling at the achievements of the early settlers. Enjoy lunch at the museum café (at your own costs). At 3pm the bus will take you back to your accommodation to relax for the evening. Own dinner arrangements. (B)
Day 6. Monday – Depart Longreach
Pack and say goodbye to Longreach. Have your luggage packed and ready for driver to load onto bus before breakfast. Begin the day with a buffet breakfast served at 7.30am at the Welcome Home Café Tearoom. At 9am we’ll take you to the station to join the Spirit of the Outback for your return journey or your plane flight. You’ll be leaving with lots of amazing memories and we hope you’ll be back! (B)
