Day 1. Arrive King Island (L,D)
Flying into Melbourne, we transfer for our flight to King Island, where beautiful beaches and world class produce including succulent beef, rich gourmet cheese and the freshest seafood are sure to awaken all your senses. On arrival we are whisked away to lunch before visiting King Island Dairy. Here we learn about the local dairy industry and enjoy a tasting of their renowned cheeses. Our local guide then takes us into Currie, the island’s main township, where there’s time to discover the shops. This evening we dine in the hotel restaurant with our meal being prepared by one of King Island’s top chefs. 4 Night Stay: Island Breeze Motel, Currie. **Please note: Accommodation on King Island is a mix of motel rooms and cabins which can be requested at time of booking.
Day 2. King Island (B,MT,L,D)
Today takes us to the north of the island to Shag Lagoon, a premium birdwatching spot and home to many migratory birds, including the endangered Orange Bellied Parrot. In Quarantine Bay we learn about Whistler Point, Christmas Island and New Year Island, then see the Shannon Wreck site at Yellow Rock River. Later we pay a visit to locals Tom Perry and Ana Pimenta for a property tour to learn about their beef production. From Paddock to Plate, we enjoy lunch made on the property from home-grown products. Next we continue on to Cape Wickham Lighthouse, the tallest in the southern hemisphere, then travel on to Disappointment Bay, Penny’s Lagoon and Martha Lavinia Beach, considered one of the world’s best surf breaks. After dinner at Wild Harvest, we go down to the harbour to watch the local penguins making their way home for the night.
Day 3. King Island (B,MT,L,D)
Merry Christmas!! We begin our day with a town tour of Currie and an insight into the island’s kelp industry at British Admiral Beach, where harvesters collect kelp which is processed for a wide variety of uses. We then make our way to Currie Harbour and hear about it’s origins in the salvage trade that developed King Island. We take a brief tour of the main township, then return to the hotel in time to prepare for a festive Christmas Day lunch at View Dining. Sit down to a traditional spread of locally sourced yuletide dishes and toast to the festive season with friends old and new. This afternoon there’s time to relax, or perhaps take in a game of barefoot bowls. This evening a light meal will be served at the hotel.
Day 4. King Island (B,L,D)
This morning we visit Sea Elephant Bay before our lunch at the Grassy Boat Club, which is home to ocean racing yachts. Tour Grassy Harbour, stopping at the Surprise Bay Pastoral Company. Take in the stunning views from Seal Rocks and Ettrick Bay before a stop at Millers Bay Hybrid Power Station.
Day 5. Melbourne (B,L,D)
This morning we visit the King Island Historical Museum and Ocean Dunes Golf Course before stopping at the Cheese Factory for a final tasting. Then we head to the airport for our flight to Melbourne. 1 Night Stay: Sofitel Melbourne on Collins, Melbourne CBD
Day 6. Melbourne (B)
Enjoy a lie in and if you wish some retail therapy before we meet for transfers from the hotel lobby at 11am for our respective flights home.
