Day 1. Arrive Cairns (D)
Scheduled flights arrive in Cairns where you will be greeted by your tour host. Board our coach for a short journey to our hotel which is ideally located on the Cairns Marina. Enjoy some free time on the esplanade before regrouping back at reception for check-in after 2pm. This evening we gather for welcome pre-dinner drinks and enjoy waterfront dining overlooking the marina. 5 Night Stay: Shangri-La Hotel, Cairns
Day 2. Cairns (B,L,D)
Our day takes us to the sweeping plateaus of the cool Atherton Tablelands, that is within an easy day-trip distance of Cairns. Enjoy a relaxing break at beautiful Lake Barrine surrounded by World Heritage listed rainforest teeming with abundant wildlife. Enjoy a delicious morning tea of baked home-made scones and locally brewed tea or coffee. From Lake Barrine, we take a short journey through farmlands and quaint country towns, stopping at Yungaburra to see the famous 600 year old Curtain Fig Tree nestled in World Heritage Mabi rainforest. We then travel a short distance to see the Crystal Caves. Don on your headlamp and explore these incredible crystal caves and marvel at the remarkable collection of glittering rocks and fossils from around the world. Wind your way through air-conditioned man-made tunnels and grottoes, finishing your visit browsing the on-site jewellery shop. Enjoy lunch at Malanda before our afternoon takes us to world famous Millaa Millaa Falls, one of the most renowned and photographed waterfalls in Australia. We then make our way back to Cairns via the cane growing areas of the tropical north. GGP
Day 3. Cairns (B,L,D)
Travelling Gold Class on the Kuranda Scenic Railway, enjoy a premium experience offering extra comfort and a little bit of luxury. The one-way ride aboard the historic Kuranda Scenic Railway is a 1.5-hour journey, where we will learn about regional history the train winds through Barron Gorge National Park and wraps around mountain curves for spectacular vistas. Cross Stoney Creek Bridge and chug by gorgeous waterfalls before arriving at the charming Kuranda train station. At Kuranda we take a trip of a lifetime on the Army Duck with an experienced guide and venture through the rainforest on an authentic amphibious World War 2 army duck. See rainforest flora on land and then splash into the lake to continue the tour where we learn about ancient ferns and trees. Lunch served at the Aussie BBQ Grill then take time at the Kuranda markets before our return to our hotel where there is time to take a dip in the resort pool. GGP
Day 4. Cairns (B,D)
We are off to Green Island where we explore Green Island’s underwater world, part of the Great Barrier Reef in air-conditioned comfort on the Semi-Submarine tour… without even getting wet! Seated below water level, we are treated to a divers view of the coral reef and marine life with informative commentary by the crew and see the lively fish feeding. Tonight, is a real treat taking a private guided twilight tour of Cairns Aquarium followed by drinks, canapes, and dinner at Dundee’s Restaurant. The restaurant features a large tank showcasing a stunning 70,000 litre saltwater marine aquarium, providing a mesmerising encounter with coastal aquatic life, it sets the backdrop for a truly unique dining experience. Lunch is at own expense today GGP
Day 5. Merry Christmas (B,MT,L,D)
Christmas day celebrations starting with a festive breakfast together a special Fun Over Fifty Christmas message. Take a walk along the esplanade or relax and read a book poolside before we dress festive and gather for a special Christmas long lunch. Tonight, a light dinner will be provided. GGP
Day 6. Flights home (B)
Enjoy one last Far North Queensland breakfast and free morning before meeting at hotel concierge where transfers are provided for your respective flights home.
