Day 1. Brisbane to Armidale (MT,L,D)
Depart Brisbane travelling through Cunninghams Gap to Warwick for morning tea before we continue on to Tenterfield. We enjoy lunch before departing for a guided town tour following in the footsteps of great Australians; Sir Henry Parkes, Banjo Paterson and Dame Nellie Melba. This afternoon we continue on through Glen Innes into the heart of the New England Tableland to Armidale, where we check-in for a 5 night stay. 5 Night Stay: Cotswold Gardens, Armidale
Day 2. Armidale (B,L,D)
Discover Armidale with a local guide this morning to see the tree lined streets ablaze in auburn and gold tones. Later we head to Saumarez House, an historical pastoral property comprising an elegant Edwardian homestead set in extensive English-style gardens, and a complex of twelve farm buildings. After lunch we tour the property and gardens. GGP
Day 3. Wollomombi Falls & Armidale (B,L,D)
Today we travel to Wollomombi Falls, on the Waterfall Way in the New England National Park. For lunch we make our way to Petersons Armidale Winery, located on the historic Palmerston property. The Cellar Door has unique surroundings in which we enjoy tasting some of the cool climate wines and a relaxed lunch. This afternoon head back to Armidale, with time to explore the New England Regional Art Museum. GGP
Day 4. Armidale & Tamworth (B,L,D)
Our destination today is toe-tapping Tamworth. We take a quick tour of the city centre, seeing the King George V Avenue of English Oaks, Tamworth’s first residence Calala Cottage, the Botanical Gardens, the railway station and the War Memorial Hall. We take time for a photo and discover the Big Golden Guitar before we enjoy lunch at The Longyard Hotel. After lunch we visit the Australian Country Music Hall of Fame, an interactive, chronological display of Australia’s country music heritage. This afternoon, we make our way back to Armidale. GGP
Day 5. Armidale & Surrounds (B,L,D)
Today we tour to Walcha, the southern gateway to the Oxley Wild Rivers National Park and Werrikimbe National Park. The town is known for its ‘Open Air Sculptures’ and Walcha Art Gallery, which you will have time to discover before heading to Uralla. We enjoy lunch in the garden and a tour at McCrossin’s Mill Museum which houses the ‘The Life and Legend of Thunderbolt’ exhibit. Later see the Dangar Falls then continue onto Gostwyk Chapel. Visit Thunderbolt’s Grave located in Uralla’s Pioneer Cemetery. GGP
Day 6. Return to Brisbane (B,L)
We farewell our lovely hosts at Armidale and travel via Warwick to Bestbrook Mountain Resort for lunch and wagon ride around the property, enjoying old-fashioned hospitality and magnificent mountain views before returning to Brisbane late afternoon.
