DAY 1 Sunday – Brisbane to Roma (MT,L,D)
Departing on our luxury ‘Gold Class’ coach from Brisbane Transit Centre on Roma Street, we travel through the Lockyer Valley, arriving at Picnic Point Toowoomba. We continue on through Dalby, breaking for lunch at Chinchilla, then make our way to Roma. 1 Night Stay: Explorers Inn, Roma
DAY 2 Monday – Carnarvon Gorge (B,MT,L,D)
Departing Roma we arrive at Carnarvon Gorge National Park, a spectacular oasis hidden in the rugged ranges of Queensland’s Central Highlands featuring towering sandstone cliffs, diverse flora and fauna and Aboriginal rock art. The safari cabins at Carnarvon Gorge Wilderness Lodge have their own outback charm, blending into the natural bushland. This afternoon we take a 20 minute scenic helicopter flight, which gives a birds-eye view of the sandstone cliffs and picturesque gorges. 2 Night Stay: Carnarvon Gorge Wilderness Lodge
DAY 3 Tuesday – Carnarvon Gorge (B,L,D)
Join our nature guide for a range of wilderness walking tours. Discover many shades of green, on the Moss Garden walk, offering a rich mosaic of mosses, ferns and lichens. Here, the micro-climate sustains a lush rainforest environment. The Baloon Cave Aboriginal cultural walk is a short walk among the fan palms and cycads and leads to a small sandstone overhang featuring stenciled Aboriginal rock art.
DAY 4 Wednesday – Emerald, Longreach (B,L,D)
Starting early we leave Carnarvon Gorge and make our way ‘Outback’ to Longreach. We travel via the coal mining town of Emerald, breaking at The Gemfields for lunch. We arrive in to Longreach late in the afternoon. 3 Night Stay: Albert Park Motor Inn, Longreach
DAY 5 Thursday – Longreach (B,L,D)
This morning be inspired by the Australian outback and the stories of the people who shaped our nation. Many are given tribute when we visit the famous Australian Stockman’s Hall of Fame where bush history slides up close to you with tales of bushrangers, shearers, stockmen and drovers. The highlight of our visit here is the Outback Stockman’s Show which tells the story of real life stockmen and women who work on the land and is a highly professional show featuring trick horses and dogs. Tonight we dine out on the Drover’s Sunset Cruise, followed by a camp oven themed dinner and show. GGP
DAY 6 Friday – Longreach (B,L,D)
Discover the Qantas Founders Museum and uncover national treasures such as the historic 1922 Qantas hangar, photographs, memorabilia and multimedia displays that bring alive the inspirational stories of one of the world’s pioneering airlines. We then take a guided tour of the 747 and 707 jets.Time to freshen up at the hotel before heading out to Camden Park Station to learn about life on the land. Watch an outback sunset by the artesian bore, dine in the historical homestead visited by the Queen in 1970, then finish at the campfire under the stars for dessert. GGP
DAY 7 Saturday – Winton, Cloncurry (B,L,D)
We head to Winton and into the majestic mesa country to The Australian Age of Dinosaurs the world’s largest collection of unique Australian dinosaur fossils and the most productive fossil preparation lab in the southern hemisphere. After lunch we travel through Kynuna and on to the Walkabout Creek Hotel – famous for being recognised as the pub in the Paul Hogan movie “Crocodile Dundee”. We finish our day upon our arrival into Cloncurry. 2 Night Stay: Gidgee Inn Motel, Cloncurry
DAY 8 Sunday – Mt Isa, Cloncurry (B,L,D)
Travelling further west to Mount Isa we get adventurous at the Hard Times Mine, taking a tour with an experienced miner guide. Kitted-out in overalls and cap lamps we descend into the mine to explore the history of mining, see how the tunnels are formed and shaped by the majestic boom drills. On returning to Cloncurry we learn about the RFDS with a visit to John Flynn Place.
DAY 9 Monday – Karumba (B,L,D)
We travel north to the Burke & Will’s Roadhouse for a break before continuing on to Karumba. We check-in to the only absolute beach front motel in the Gulf of Carpentaria. Tonight enjoy pre-dinner drinks/nibbles overlooking the Gulf Sunset. 2 Night Stay: End of the Road Motel, Karumba
DAY 10 Tuesday – Karumba (B,L,D)
Visit the Barramundi Discovery Centre and learn about the live breeding program. This afternoon we take the ultimate Karumba experience aboard the Croc & Crab sunset boat tour. Soak up another sunset over the Gulf of Carpentaria feasting on Gulf mud crabs, Gulf prawns and fresh fish.
DAY 11 Wednesday – The Gulflander, Cobbold Gorge (B,L,D)
Board the Gulflander and take a scenic journey through the Gulf Savannah Bushland, stopping at Critters Camp to rejoin the coach. We then travel to Croydon, taking time to explore the old gold-mining heritage. Back on the track, we make our way to Georgetown to visit the Ted Elliott Mineral Collection. Depart Georgetown for Cobbold Gorge on Robin Hood Station. 2 Night Stay: Cobbold Gorge Village
DAY 12 Thursday – Cobbold Gorge (B,L,D)
This morning relax and be mesmerised on a cruise of Cobbold Gorge. Enjoy an optional short walk into the escarpment.
DAY 13 Friday – Savannahlander to Mt Surprise (B,L,D)
Departing Cobbold Gorge we arrive at Forsayth to join the Savannahlander rail journey to Einasleigh to explore the Copperfield Gorge and enjoy lunch at the old pub. We re-board the train and travel to Mount Surprise, then transfer by coach to Undara Lava Tubes, checking into beautifully restored turn of the century railway carriages. The carriages are set along the original Cobb & Co coach road under the shade of tall trees and Australian Native wildlife. 1 Night Stay: Undara Lava Tubes, Mount Surprise
DAY 14 Saturday – Undara Lava Tubes, Cairns (B,L,D)
Join a local Savannah guide for a tour of the Undara Lava Tubes. Formed over 190,000 years ago from violent seismic action and frozen in time, these lava tubes are part of the longest lava flow from a single volcanic crater in modern geological time. Our afternoon takes us travelling via the scenic Atherton Tablelands, arriving in Cairns. 1 Night Stay: Shangri-La Hotel, Cairns
DAY 15 Sunday – End of tour (B)
After breakfast enjoy a free morning before being transferred to the airport for return flights home. **Flights are not included and are at own expense.
