Day 1: Welcome to Hobart

On arrival at Hobart Airport you’ll be transferred by private car to your hotel. Meet your Travel Director and fellow travellers for a tour of Hobart including Battery Point, Salamanca Place, the Botanic Gardens and Constitution Dock. The last stop is Mt. Nelson for amazing views of Hobart. Tonight you’ll get to know everyone at a welcome reception and dinner. Hotel: Hotel Grand Chancellor, Hobart, 2 nights. DW

Day 2: Salamanca Market

A free morning to enjoy the sights, sounds, flavours, colour and action of Salamanca Market. Explore the market stalls, wander through the historic sandstone warehouses discovering innovative Tasmanian arts and crafts and delight in the taste and aroma of freshly baked goods and local produce. Meet the friendly people who make or grow what they sell. Take a moment to sit back and relax at one of Salamanca’s cafés and watch the world pass you by with a cooling ale or locally produced cider. This afternoon choose one from a selection of Included Choice sightseeing experiences. Maybe join a walking tour with a local expert for fabulous insight into Hobart’s history, people and places. Or perhaps visit Mawson’s Huts Replica Museum. They’ve left nothing to the imagination with the historic replication of the base Douglas Mawson built in Antarctica during his Australasian Antarctic expedition of 1911-14. Alternatively, you can use your Included Choice option on Day 10 to catch the quirky MONA Ferry back to Hobart, after you visit the museum. B

Day 3: Hobart – Strahan

This morning head west to New Norfolk and the magnificent Mt. Field National Park, Tasmania’s oldest, and location of the spectacular three-tiered Russell Falls. This afternoon visit the Wall in the Wilderness, a fascinating sculpture where artist Greg Duncan has hand-carved a collection of panels commemorating those who shaped the area’s past and present. Travel to Queenstown, along the rainforest bordered road of World Heritage protected Franklin-Gordon Wild Rivers National Park, and on to coastal Strahan. Hotel: Strahan Village. B DW

Day 4: Strahan – Cradle Mountain

Start the day with a Gordon River cruise, where the wilderness comes to the water’s edge. You’ll be awestruck by the beauty of the dark waters reflecting the untouched wilderness. Stop at Sarah Island and discover the ruins of the penal colony. See Hell’s Gate and Heritage Landing, site of the 2,000 year old Huon Pine. Later pass the mining and hydro electric towns of Rosebery and Tullah, as you travel to Cradle Mountain National Park. Hotel: Cradle Mountain Hotel, 2 nights. B L DW

Day 5: Cradle Mountain

This morning it’s time to explore Cradle Mountain National Park. Join your Travel Director for a guided walk around Dove Lake, then choose to meander through the forest and alpine heathlands on a purpose built board walk or for a more challenging hike, head to Marion’s Lookout. If a close up encounter with a Tasmanian Devil or a pampering spa treatment sounds more like you, your Travel Director can assist you to make a booking. B DW

Day 6: Cradle Mountain – Launceston

This morning you’ll visit Hellyers Road Distillery for a guided walk through the working distillery to see ingredients and processes that deliver one of the finest single malt whiskys in the world. Next up you’ll visit Sheffield, town of the murals, before heading to 41° South Salmon & Ginseng Farm. Join the Pyka family to hear how they came to be salmon farmers when they arrived in Australia from Germany. Take a wander through their property to learn a little about aquaculture and feed salmon in the feeding ponds. Before you leave you’ll have the chance to taste their fresh smoked salmon and ginseng products. Continue through the Meander Valley to Tassie’s ‘northern capital’ Launceston. Day 7: Launceston

This morning you’ll visit Cataract Gorge before you take a scenic country drive through the Tamar Valley’s rolling hills. Following this you are welcome at Josef Chromy Wines for a delicious Be My Guest lunch. The views from the surrounding vineyards and lakes provide an idyllic location to enjoy tasting some of the estategrown cool climate wines and tucking in to some fresh local Tasmanian produce. This afternoon is free for you to relax or explore on your own. You may like to take an optional cruise on the Tamar River or even a tour through James Boag’s Brewery. This evening meet up with your travelling companions to welcome some new faces that will be joining you for the remainder of your holiday. B BG

Day 8: Launceston – Bicheno

Bridestowe Lavender Estate is your first stop today. It has been growing lavender since 1922 when a London perfumer planted lavender seeds from the French Alps on his family estate which he named after his of Bridestowe’s lavender products and treat yourself to their famous lavender ice cream! Later, stop at the Legerwood Carved Memorial Trees, planted in honour of fallen WWI soldiers, then visit Pyengana Dairy Company. Learn about the history of the farm and cheese making in the Pyengana area before you taste a number of cheeses of different ages and flavours. After a lunchtime stop at St. Helens, follow the picturesque East Coast south to Bicheno. This evening you may like to take an optional tour to see Bicheno’s wild penguin colony as they emerge from the ocean for the night, or even take a tour to see Tassie Devils. Hotel: Best Western Beachfront at Bicheno, 2 nights. B DW

Day 9: Freycinet National Park

Discover the exquisite beauty of Wineglass Bay on a four hour lunch cruise of the Freycinet Peninsula with a local guide. Cruise from the gentle shores of Coles Bay along the Freycinet coast to one of the world’s best beaches. Later, experience breathtaking Freycinet National Park, with its pink granite mountains, coastal dunes and dry eucalypt forests. A guided walk will unveil astonishing views across brilliant blue water, forest and golden beach. Cape Tourville Lookout will amaze you. B L DW

Day 10: Bicheno – Hobart

Journey to historic Ross, considered the finest nineteenth century village in Australia. Visit the exquisite Ross Bridge with its 186 carvings depicting Celtic symbols, flora, fauna and notable personalities of the day. As you travel south towards Hobart you’ll stop at Shene Estate, a reflection of early Australian architecture and the colonial era for a Be My Guest experience. A walking tour of this iconic property with a local expert is followed by a basket of home-made treats for morning tea. On the way to Hobart you’ll visit Australia’s largest privately funded museum, the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA), with its mix of ancient, modern and sometimes confronting contemporary art. Day 11: Port Arthur

En route to Port Arthur cross Eaglehawk Neck to the Tasman Peninsula. Enjoy a fascinating guided walk of Port Arthur Historic Site and infamous convict prison and a cruise around the Isle of the Dead. View the rugged sea cliffs from Pirate’s Bay Lookout, and feast your eyes on the amazing vistas of Tasman’s Arch, Devil’s Kitchen and the Blowhole on your return to Hobart. This evening celebrate a wonderful holiday with your Travel Director and fellow travellers at a farewell dinner. B FD

Day 12: Farewell from Hobart

Your holiday concludes this morning after breakfast. You will be transferred to Hobart Airport for your onward flight. B
