DAY 1 – Arrive Darwin (D)
Flights arrive into Darwin Airport where we are met by our local coach captain for the start of a twelve-day adventure of Australia’s Kakadu and Kimberley regions. We arrive and check-in to our hotel situated on the Esplanade. 2 Night Stay: SKYCITY, Darwin
DAY 2 – Litchfield National Park, Museum & Art Gallery, Sunset Cruise (B,L,D)
Today we discover Litchfield National Park with its picturesque waterfalls, lush waterholes and iconic magnetic termite mounds. We continue on to pay tribute at the Adelaide River war cemetery before heading back to Darwin to visit the Museum & Art Gallery that depicts the destructive force of Cyclone Tracy. This evening we dine out, enjoying a sumptuous seafood buffet whilst admiring the sunset over Darwin Harbour.
DAY 3 – Kakadu National Park (B,L,D)
Leaving Darwin behind we travel to Corroboree Park Tavern for crocodile feeding before arriving at the magnificent Corroboree Billabong and Mary River Wetlands for a Wildlands Wetlands Safari. Discover a natural wonderland, home to the world’s highest natural concentration of saltwater crocodiles, and see colourful flora and wildlife including wallabies, jabiru, sea eagles, kites, kingfishers, brolgas, buffalo and jacanas. our afternoon takes us into World Heritage-listed Kakadu National Park for a Yellow Water wetlands cruise which includes part of the South Alligator River floodplain. Look out for tiny azure kingfishers and white-bellied sea eagles, long-legged brolgas, jabirus and masses of magpie geese which migrate to Kakadu each dry season. Buffalo and brumbies roam the area and it’s Crocodylus central with an estimated four crocodiles per 100 sq km. 2 Night Stay: Mercure Kakadu Crocodile Hotel, Jabiru
DAY 4 – Scenic Flight, Ubirr & Nourlangie (B,L,D)
Kakadu’s landscape of contrasts spans over 19,000 sq km and will tantalise the senses with its abundance of flora, fauna, dreamtime connections and stunning vistas. Taking to the skies we enjoy a 30 minute scenic flight over the Archway, Arnhem Land escarpment, East Alligator valley, Mikinj Valley billabongs and Magela floodplains. Back on terra firma we traverse the Magela floodplains and pass spectacular escarpments to the Aboriginal rock art sites of Ubirr and Nourlangie where our guide takes us through the natural stone galleries, giving an insight into the culture associated with these intriguing works of art. Discover paintings of spirit characters and the famous x-ray art depicting the internal structure of some of the animals of this country. **Please note: Strict Level 3 active level required today.
DAY 5 – Pine Creek, Edith Falls, Thermal Hot Springs (B,L,D)
We leave the mighty Kakadu and travel to Pine Creek for lunch at the unique Lazy Lizard Tavern which is constructed from termite mound mud bricks. There’s time to discover this quirky Northern Territory icon before we finish the day with a stop at the thermal hot springs on the outskirts of Katherine. 1 Night Stay: Paraway Motel, Katherine
DAY 6 – Katherine Gorge Cruise, Kununurra (B,L,D)
Enjoy a guided gorge cruise on the tranquil calm green waters of the Katherine River taking in some of the park’s 13 gorges. We then venture west along the Victoria Highway, stopping for lunch at Victoria River Crossing, before moving into the East Kimberley region. From here we continue on, breaking at Timber Creek then cross the WA border into Kununurra. 2 Night Stay: Kununurra Lakeside Resort
DAY 7 – Ord River Cruise (B,L,D)
A relaxed and awe-inspiring day today as we cruise the famous Ord River with its’ majestic appeal, rugged landscapes and plentiful wildlife. After lunch we return through Durack country to Kununurra for a free afternoon.
DAY 8 – Lake Argyle, Bungle Bungles and Argyle Diamond Mine Scenic Flight, Argyle Diamond Mine Tour, Halls Creek (B,L,D)
We have an early start this morning taking off from Kununurra Airport for a scenic flight over Lake Argyle, the world heritage listed Bungle Bungle Range and the Argyle Diamond Mine. On landing we take in a ground tour of the Argyle Diamond Mine, the world’s largest supplier of natural coloured diamonds, from exotic champagne diamonds to the remarkably rare pink diamond. After lunch we parallel the Durack Range to Halls Creek. 1 Night Stay: Kimberley Hotel, Halls Creek
DAY 9 – Fitzroy Crossing, Geikie Gorge Cruise (B,L,D)
This morning we travel through the open grasslands of the cattle stations to Fitzroy Crossing. We take time for lunch at the Fitzroy River Lodge, stretch our legs and then continue to Geikie Gorge to take a cruise on the Fitzroy River. Witness the spectacular geography of the area, freshwater crocodiles and abundant birdlife, and an insight into the Kimberley region’s rich indigenous history and culture. 1 Night Stay: Fitzroy River Lodge
DAY 10 – Derby, Broome (B,L,D)
Heading west we arrive at the township of Derby, the first town settled in the Kimberley, and home of the Boab Tree. We break for lunch here before continuing on to Broome, affectionally known as the ‘pearl of the north’. 2 Night Stay: Oaks Resort, Broome
DAY 11 – Willie Creek Pearl Farm, Pearl Riggers Museum, Cable Beach Camel Safari (B,L,D)
Arrive at Willie Creek Pearl Farm to discover how the Australian South Sea Cultured Pearl is produced. After lunch we take in a visit to the Pearl Riggers Museum then make a brief stop at Broome’s cemetery, filled with the gravestones of Japanese, Afghan and Malay pearlers. An adventurous finish to our day taking a camel safari ride along Cable Beach with the sun setting out to sea. It is magical beyond belief, with the sea wind in your hair, the outback stretching out one side and Indian Ocean to the other. 90kg weight restrictions apply to camel ride
DAY 12 – Flights Home (B)
Enjoy breakfast at your leisure before being transferred to the airport where we say our goodbyes and take our respective flights home. A sensational tour, showcasing dramatic landscapes, rugged rock structures, living Aboriginal culture, colossal waterways and incandescent ocean.
