The Indian Pacific gives you two oceans on one of the world's longest and greatest train journeys. But most of your cruising will be across the vast continent of Australia. From the spectacular Blue Mountains to the treeless plains of The Nullarbor desert, where the train travels the world's longest straight stretch of railway track (478 kilometres), see unique landscapes unfold and spot a fascinating array of wildlife from the comfort of the lounge or your cabin.

Get up close and see the sights of some of our most famous outback towns when you enjoy an optional off-train sightseeing tour. The great train offers these tours during scheduled stops at Broken Hill, Adelaide and gold rich Kalgoorlie. A remote outpost on the Nullarbor Plain called Cook presents a further opportunity to stretch your legs.

All along the Indian Pacific route, keep an eye out for a sighting of the magnificent Australian wedge tailed eagle, the symbol of this great train. It's massive wingspan of up to two metres will make it easy to spot in a clear desert sky.

Broken Hill - The Silver City

Broken Hill has been a major producer of silver, lead and zinc since 1883 hence its tag the ‘Silver City’. The town is set in a remote and vast landscape of rugged ranges, mulga bush, desert and plains; home to kangaroos, emus and Wedge-tail eagles. The natural attractions combined with the clear light and beautiful colours have inspired many fine artists who base themselves here. Hot climate will be experienced for much of the year, with chilly winter nights and sunny days.

Adelaide - The Festival City

First laid out in 1836 by Colonel William Light, this elegant city is noted for its superb parklands, galleries and colonial buildings near beaches and hills. Cook, once a thriving railway settlement, now has only a handful of residents left and is one of the world’s most isolated outposts. Some 1,100 kilometres from Adelaide and 1,500 kilometres from Perth, its scattered lonely buildings straddle the Trans Continental rail line in the middle of the vast, harsh Nullarbor Plain. The train stops here for a short while to change drivers and take on water. Guests have the opportunity to briefly explore what today is little more than a ghost town.

Kalgoorlie - Australia's Gold Capital

The gold rush, set off by Paddy Hannan’s discovery in 1893, was one of the biggest in Australian history. One hundred years on, the world’s largest single open cut mining operation continues to recover the precious metal, and the city has prospered as a result. There is a lot of fine architecture which includes the magnificent Town Hall. Kalgoorlie’s inland desert fringe position provides a warm, dry climate for much of the year, but don’t be concerned, there are plenty of grand old ‘goldfields’ pubs to help quench your thirst.

WESTBOUND TRAIN (to Perth): Monday and Friday evening.
EASTBOUND TRAIN (to Sydney): Wednesday and Sunday evening.

Travel along Hannan Street to view the Heritage Buildings and the history of the many pubs.
NOTE: Tour is at night. *Super Pit may be closed due to inclement weather conditions.
