Day 1. Depart Brisbane Spirit of the Outback Train
Today, you will depart on the Spirit of the Outback for your journey to Longreach. The train is scheduled to depart at 4.10pm. Relax and enjoy the views of the rugged mountain ranges and farming areas of the coast before making our way inland. Overnight: Spirit of the Outback Train (All meals included for 1st Class Passengers). Note: If not using the train service, please arrive in Longreach on Day 2 and meet at the motel.
Day 2. Arrive Longreach / Luminescent Longreach Laser Light Show
Upon waking this morning, we pass through historical towns of the outback on our way into Longreach. Arriving in Longreach, we then transfer to our motel before making our way to the amazing new Luminescent Longreach which is a 20 minute spectacular night time light and sound experience. We then enjoy dinner this evening. 3 Nights: Longreach Motor Inn (D)
Day 3. Stockman’s Hall Of Fame / Thomson River Cruise & Smithy’s Outback Dinner
Following breakfast we make our way to the Stockman’s Hall of Fame. We explore the Long Paddock and virtual stockman followed by A Stockman’s Life – Live Show: Undercover grandstand seating in the Outback Stockman Arena, up close and personal experience with the stars of the show – human and four legged, live sheep muster, working dogs, horsemanship and stockman activities. We make our way into town and enjoy some time wandering the historical streets. Late afternoon we enjoy a relaxing cruise as the sun sets over the Thomson River Floodplains. Live it up as the sun sets over the mighty Thomson River Floodplains, whilst savouring signature canapes and enjoying a drink. We then arrive at Smithy’s Outback Dinner venue on the banks of the Thomson River for a scrumptious camp fire cooked dinner. (B,D)
Day 4. QANTAS Museum / Historical Camden Park Station
This morning we visit the Qantas Museum for a tour of the 747 and Original Hangar, enjoying the many Qantas stories. Be entertained at The Tent Show while enjoying a Billy Can lunch. This afternoon we visit the historical Camden Park Station and walk in the footsteps of Royalty on The ‘Queen’s Path’ where Queen Elizabeth II herself walked whilst on a visit. We also see the Swagman’s Grave, Longreach’s Highest Lookout and the Oldest Private Ballroom in the Outback. We then enjoy dinner in the 100-year-old Wool Shed which is the quintessential Outback experience. (B,D)
Day 5. Winton / Waltzing Matilda Centre / Age of Dinosaurs / Dinner with Dinosaurs
We head to the unique town of Winton today and visit the Waltzing Matilda Centre. We then make our way to the Australian Age of Dinosaurs Museum of Natural History. We enjoy a guided tour of the museum which houses the largest collection of unique Australian dinosaur fossils. We then have the most unique dining experience at the museum, BBQ on the JUMP UP: Relax and enjoy a Aussie Outback BBQ with the dinosaurs. It’s time to unwind and watch the amazing sunset over the vast Savannah plains. 2 Nights: North Gregory Hotel, Winton (B,D)
Day 6. Lark Quarry Dinosaur Stampede
What a day of discovery today. Following breakfast we will depart and make our way to The 3 Sisters of the Outback. Formed over Millions of Years, these rock formations rise up out of the surrounding plains to make a lasting statement of the ancient outback. We then depart for Lark Quarry. Just when you think things could not be any older, we will view the amazing fossilized rock formations of the 95 Million year old Dinosaur Stampede. Over 3,300 dinosaur footprints scattered over the rock face. (B,L,D)
Day 7. Crocodile Dundee’s Walkabout Creek Hotel / Mt Isa
Departing Winton we make our way to McKinlay and the Walkabout Creek Hotel. If it sounds familiar, then it should. This quirky hotel was made famous in the blockbuster movie Crocodile Dundee. Inside the pub you’ll find plenty of memorabilia from the days when Paul Hogan swaggered up to the bar as Mick Dundee. These days you are assured of a hearty pub meal and great outback hospitality. Following our stop here, we continue on to Cloncurry and then into Mt Isa for a 2 night stay. 2 Nights Ibis Styles, Mt Isa (B,D)
Day 8. Discover Mt Isa / Underground Mine Tour
Outback at the Isa today and take part in the Hard Times Underground Mine Tour and Outback Park. We then visit the WW2 Underground Hospital and the Beth Anderson Museum, followed by the famed Mt Isa Lookout and Lake. (B,D)
Day 9. Dinosaur Trail Cloncurry / Richmond
Departing to Cloncurry, we visit the Unearthed Museum with the star exhibit being Robert Burke’s (Burke and Wills) water bottle, along with the history of their exploration. Then to Richmond and visit Kronosaurus Korner which is Australia’s premier marine fossil museum. It showcases nearly 1,150 unique fossil specimens.. Overnight: Overnight Ammonite Inn or Entriken Motel, Richmond (B,D)
Day 10. Townsville / Depart for Home
This morning we make our way into Townsville via Hughenden. We visit the iconic Castle Hill for an amazing view of the surrounding area and Magnetic Island before making our way to the train station for your departure this afternoon on the Spirit of Queensland. Note: If not using the train service, you tour completes in Townsville at 2pm. Overnight: Spirit of Queensland (B,D)
Day 11 : Arrive Home
Today the Spirit of Queensland will finish the journey arriving at your home station with cherished memories of the QLD Outback. The train is scheduled to arrive at 10.20am. (B)
