DAY 1 – ARRIVE LAUNCESTON, CATARACT GORGE (D)
Our flights take us into the riversidecity of Launceston in northern Tasmania where we meet our coach captain. Before settling into our hotel this afternoon, we discover a slice of wilderness right in the heart of town at Cataract Gorge where we take a ride on the world’s longest single span chairlift. 1 Night Stay: Peppers Silo, Launceston
DAY 2 – Beauty Point, Legerwood Carvings, ST HELENS (B,L,D)
Today we travel to Beauty Point stopping at Grindelwald Swiss Village. a unique residential development with buildings of Swiss style, with wide eaves, flowerboxes, window shutters and balconies, fringed with glassy lakes and views of the Tamar Valley. Next we stop at Beaconsfield before visiting either the only seahorse farm in the world or Platypus House. We then travel to East Tamar via the unique A-frame Batman Bridge. We break for lunch at the Bridestowe Lavender Farm before travelling on to Legerwood to view the tree carvings – an amazing avenue of memorial tree carvings that are a lasting tribute to soldiers who lost their lives in WWI. Lastly, we continue down through Weldborough Pass to the seaside village of St Helens. 1 Night Stay: Tidal Waters Resort, St Helens
DAY 3 – EAST COAST NATURE WORLD, CAMPBELL TOWN, ROSS, RICHMOND, HOBART (B,L,D)
Our day starts with a visit to East Coast Nature World, the perfect place to experience Tasmania’s unique animals, birdlife and flora – it’s a chance to get up close and personal with the Tasmanian Devil! We continue on and stop at Campbell Town to view the convict trail and the convict-built Red Bridge before heading to Ross for lunch. Later we travel to historical Richmond, before crossing the Derwent River to Hobart. 3 Night Stay: The Old Woolstore, Hobart
DAY 4 – SALAMANCA MARKETS, TAHUNE AIRWALK, HOBART (B,L,D)
This morning we visit the Salamanca Markets at historic Salamanca Place. Located next to the waterfront with 300 stall holders, it’s an experience that is hard to beat. We then travel the picturesque Huon Valley and visit the Tahune Airwalk for a BBQ lunch and guided walk through the breathtaking forest canopy. Later in Geeveston, we make a stop at the Forest Heritage Centre to discover its displays delving into the forestry heritage of the area. On returning to Hobart we travel via Sandy Bay and historic Battery Point to enjoy the panoramic views of Mount Nelson.
DAY 5 – PORT ARTHUR, HOBART (B,L,D)
Travelling to Port Arthur Penal Settlement we learn how hundreds of convicts lived, worked and died under threats of the lash. We take a short cruise across Carnarvon Harbour and around the Isle of the Dead. As we return towards Hobart we travel via Eaglehawk Neck to see the many formations of the south east coast, namely Tasman Arch, Devil’s Kitchen and the Tessellated Pavement. Tonight we dine out, enjoying the vibrant maritime atmosphere and freshest Tasmanian seafood at the iconic Drunken Admiral.
DAY 6 – NEW NORFOLK, RUSSELL FALLS, “The Wall in the Wilderness”, QUEENSTOWN (B,L,D)
We depart Hobart and follow the Derwent Valley to historic New Norfolk then continue on to Mount Field National Park. Just a short walk through the giant trees brings us to Russell Falls before we continue on to ‘The Wall in the Wilderness’ – history in the making. Later we view the impressive Iron Blow open cut copper mine en-route to Queenstown. 2 Night Stay: Gold Rush Motor Inn, Queenstown
DAY 7 – GORDON RIVER CRUISE (B,L,D)
Today we relax in reserved premium seating as we cruise the mighty Gordon River. We step ashore at Heritage Landing and see the 2000 year old Huon Pine before sailing on through Hells Gates. We enjoy a smorgasbord lunch on board then return via Strahan to Queenstown.
DAY 8 – CRADLE MOUNTAIN, ANVERS, DEVONPORT (B,L,D)
Our travels today take us to Cradle Mountain National Park for a guided tour of pioneer Gustav Weindorfer’s chalet and Dove Lake. After enjoying lunch at Cradle Mountain Chateau we travel via Sheffield, the town of murals, to break at Anvers for a taste of their world renowned Belgian chocolates, before arriving in Devonport. 1 Night Stay: Quality Hotel Gateway, Devonport
DAY 9 – FLIGHTS HOME (B)
We pass through the topiary town of Railton en-route to historic Deloraine on the Meander River. Here we view the many sculptures on display before returning to Launceston and our home-bound flights.
