Day 1. Depart Brisbane to Grafton

Departing from Brisbane this morning we travel south as we make our way to visit to the Tweed Regional Gallery at Murwillumbah. The interiors are filled with over 20,000 items. We enjoy a light lunch at the gallery café before making our way to Grafton this afternoon. 2 nights Quality Inn Grafton (L,D)

Day 2. Grafton Jacaranda Festival

After breakfast we make our way to the annual Jacaranda Festival. We have the opportunity to wander through the markets to view the many stalls selling local wares. This afternoon our local guide will board our coach for a town tour of Grafton. We are very lucky to be here on the last Saturday of the festival as today is Parade Day. This evening we see the Grand Float Procession down Prince Street. After a fantastic day we make a time to meet up and return to our motel for dinner. (B,D)

Day 3. Coffs Harbor & Maitland

We head south on the Pacific Highway via Coffs Harbour and Nambucca Heads to reach Port Macquarie where we stop for lunch at the Port Macquarie Golf Club, then through to Maitland for our 4 night stay. 4 nights Old Maitland Inn (B,L,D)

Day 4. Hunter Valley Roses & Christmas Light Show

This morning we take a look around Maitland before we make our way to the Hunter Valley Gardens. We are lucky enough to be here during the annual Rose Spectacular time, where the gardens will be blooming with over 2 million roses. A light lunch will be provided in the garden’s café, before we visit the Hunter Village to stop and browse. Some may choose to visit Hunter Valley Cookies, Hunter Valley Chocolate Company or the British Lolly Shop. Of course no visit to the Hunter Valley would be complete without a wine tasting. We also visit McGuigans and the Hunter Valley Cheese Company to sample some of their delicious cheeses. After dinner we make our way back to the gardens for the magical Christmas Lights Spectacular with over 1.5 million Christmas lights on show. The lights spectacular is bound to capture the spirit of Christmas and create lasting memories for all. (B,L,D)

Day 5. Upper Hunter & Darley Stud

A full day of touring today in the Upper Hunter Valley. We are joined by our local guide as we tour through the region. Our sightseeing takes us to Darley Stud – a magnificent operation with animals and scenery that will be remembered. Darley (Woodlands) is owned by Sheik Mohammed from Dubai – he is the largest breeder of thoroughbreds in the world – this farm is the largest. It is in the Upper Hunter and we have exclusive rights to visit today! We’ll stop for lunch in Denman before continuing our sightseeing which will include some local enterprises and of course a wine tasting at a local winery. After a thoroughly fascinating day we will farewell to our guide and head back to our hotel. (B,L,D)

Day 6. Port Stephens

This morning we head to Port Stephens where we board our cruise boat for a sightseeing cruise on Nelson Bay. Keep your fingers crossed as, with luck, we may also meet some of the long-time locals – the friendly dolphins. We then head to the RAAF Williamtown for our visit to Fighter World, the world’s first fighter aircraft display centre. It is here we see the history of the Australian Air Force close up. See the aircraft in action in the large photographic display. Mid-afternoon we return to Maitland where we have some free time in town. (B,L,D)

Day 7. Tamworth & Armidale

We farewell Maitland and make our way to Singleton, Muswellbrook and on to Tamworth. Tamworth is known as the country music capital of Australia. In town, you’ll see the Hands of Fame Park, which contains the handprints of more than 300 country music stars, and the mighty 12 metre high Golden Guitar. We then relax over lunch at the Longyard Hotel. Steeped in tradition it is truly an icon of Australian hotels with an atmosphere that is distinctly country! From here we drive on to Armidale for our overnight stay. Overnight Country Comfort Armidale (B,L,D)

Day 8. Armidale to Brisbane

After breakfast we depart Armidale and continue north to Glen Innes, the heart of the New England Highlands. From Glen Innes we travel north to Tenterfield. Today we follow in the footsteps of great Australians – Sir Henry Parkes, Banjo Paterson and Dame Nellie Melba and grace the rooms of historic Stannum House for our lunch break. The beautifully restored home has recently been open to the public. Then arriving back into Brisbane following our wonderful Xmas Lights Tour. (B,L)
