Day 1. Saturday – Brisbane to Gladstone (MT,L,D)
Departing Brisbane Transit Centre, we leisurely make our way north passing the Glass House Mountains and breaking at Gympie Duck Ponds for morning tea. Next on our agenda this morning is a visit to Ohana Winery and Exotic Fruit Farm for a tour, tasting and lunch. We experience an interactive guided tour of the fruit orchard and get to taste all the weird and wonderful fruit grown here. We then move on to tropical fruit wine, cider and liqueur tasting with the winemaker before settling in for lunch. Our afternoon takes us via Apple Tree Creek and back on to the Bruce Highway, finishing our day in the bustling harbour city of Gladstone. 1 Night Stay: Rydges Hotel, Gladstone
Day 2. Sunday – Yeppoon (B,L,D)
Enjoy a later start this morning as we take a drive tour of this picturesque seaside village which is steeped in history being the second landing site of James Cook and the crew of the Endeavour in May 1770. We then hit the highway, making our way to the beef capital of Australia – Rockhampton. We venture out to Capricorn Caves to explore the unique caverns on a 1-hour underground tour of the Cathedral Cave. We follow an experienced guide into the brightly lit limestone cavern that contains rare ferns, massive tree roots and some small bats. The caves were discovered in 1881, and offer a glimpse into the geology of Queensland. The high-domed Cathedral Cave is renowned for its acoustics and as a setting for some lovely Christmas Carols. We finish our day at Yeppoon where we check-in to our beachfront apartment style accommodation. A charming esplanade greets you with grassy knoll and palms which form a backdrop to a vista of sea, sand, sky and islands. 4 Night Stay: Ocean View Rooms at Salt, Yeppoon **Please note: As accommodation is apartment style, there is no service to rooms during our stay.
Day 3. Monday – Great Keppel Island (B,MT,L,D)
Today we cruise through the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, the largest heritage listed area in the world. Our full day cruise begins with morning tea served on arrival at Great Keppel Island. We then transfer to a glass bottom boat for a coral viewing and fish feeding tour with an informed commentary from the expert crew. Enjoy some free time on the island before meeting up for lunch overlooking Keppel Bay. We return to the mainland in time for you to browse the shops in the main street just metres from our accommodation.
Day 4. Tuesday – Capricorn Coast (B,L,D)
Merry Christmas! This morning we take a beautiful scenic drive along the Capricorn Coast, breaking at Emu Park for a visit and to hear the sounds of the Singing Ship Monument which overlooks a spectacular coastal vista of blue seas and Great Keppel Island in the distance. We then make our to our lunch venue to enjoy our Christmas Day celebrations. Toast to Christmas Day sipping on champagne and wine whilst leisurely feasting on fresh seafood and traditional fare. Tonight, we gather around the pool at our Hotel to share light cold cuts and salad platters.
Day 5. Wednesday – Koorana Crocodile Farm (B,L,D)
Adventure awaits as we take the scenic Tanby Road route making our way to Koorana Crocodile Farm, home to over 3000 salt water crocodiles. Enjoy a fascinating insight to these prehistoric creatures and take a tour of a commercial crocodile farm, not your everyday tourism theme park. We return to our hotel mid-afternoon to enjoy some free time downtown. Get your laughing gear on tonight for our dinner and show at Footlights Theatre Restaurant where we will enjoy a top-class comedy variety show and two course dinner.
Day 6. Thursday – Fraser Island (B,MT,L,D)
This morning we leave the beautiful Capricorn Coast and make our way south breaking at Mount Larcom for a cuppa and then Gin Gin for lunch before arriving at Hervey Bay. From here we take the barge to World Heritage listed Fraser Island. Positioned on the western side of Fraser Island, our resort overlooks the calm waters of the Great Sandy Strait and blends seamlessly with nature. 2 Night Stay: Kingfisher Bay Resort, Fraser Island
Day 7. Friday – Fraser Island (B,L,D)
Paradise… a place we can all imagine. To the Aboriginals, Fraser Island was paradise. Our guided tour will tell tales of how the Butchulla tribe occupied the paradise of Fraser Island at least 5000 years ago. As we discover the world’s largest sand island, our off-road adventure takes us tackling inland bumps and humps through towering Satinay trees, followed by a boardwalk through majestic beauty of nature as rainforests and rare plant life surround the area. We unearth shipwrecks and sheltered bays and take plenty of time to stop and enjoy the view. Climb Indian Head and gaze down upon schools of fish, sharks, dolphins, rays and turtles, enjoying their own sea safari. We also stop off at picturesque Lake McKenzie which shines sapphire blue, surrounded with shores of snow-white sand. When the day’s exploring is done, it’s time to take our taste-buds on a voyage of their own. Join us for dinner in the awardwinning Seabelle Restaurant to see what all the fuss is about. **Please note: 4WD tour is not suitable for passengers with neck/back injury as some parts of the journey can be bumpy and jerky.
Day 8. Saturday – Maryborough to Brisbane (B,MT,L,D)
Homeward bound this morning, once back on the mainland we travel via Maryborough to Tiaro, breaking at the historic Hideaway Hotel where we enjoy a BBQ lunch in the beer garden before returning to Brisbane Transit Centre scheduled to arrive at approximately 4:30pm.
