Day 1. MONDAY 26 JULY – Brisbane to Longreach
9am – Depart from Brisbane Domestic Airport. Travel in your private plane with Graham on board providing clear and interesting commentary and ensuring a great outback experience. You’re not just going with the Tour Director/Guide of the day but the owner of Travel West, who together with his wife Deb pride themselves on operating well planned tours specialising in the regions they know and have over 20 years’ experience in showcasing Australia’s beautiful Outback to their guests. Fly to Longreach over the Carnarvon Gorge Range. The Carnarvon Range is a mountain range in Central Queensland, Australia. It is a plateau section of the Great Dividing Range. The Carnarvon Range is 160 km in length. Arrive Longreach and transfer to Ilfracombe for lunch at the historic Wellshot Hotel. Brief tour of Longreach before arriving at your accommodation. 4.30pm – Transfer to the Thomson River for your Drover’s Sunset Cruise, followed by Smithy’s Outback Dinner & Show. Relax under the stars with table-service dining featuring camp-oven themed modern cuisine. Their talented musical performer will entertain you with songs and stories before transferring back to your motel. Accommodation: Longreach Motor Inn x 2 nights
Day 2. TUESDAY 27 JULY – Longreach
Full buffet breakfast. 9am – Transfer to the Qantas Founders Museum and enjoy time in the Museum and Airpark Tour. The Airpark Tour takes you behind the scenes of our DC-3, Boeing 747, Boeing 707 and Super Constellation. You will discover the secrets, history and incredible information about these aircraft. Participants on the tour will get to walk through the Boeing 747, Boeing 707 and Super Constellation. A delicious lunch will be served in one of the Galleries. Following lunch transfer back to the motel where you will have some free time to relax or stroll up town and check out The Station Store, an emporium of treasures designed to recreate the traditional outback stores that sold everything. Time disappears here as you explore rooms full of leatherware, outback clothing, hats, boots, local crafts, toys, books, homewares, haberdashery, gifts and quirky outback souvenirs. 4.30pm transfer to the Australian Stockman’s Hall of Fame for ‘A Night at the Museum’! Beginning with exclusive access to the Twilight Stockman’s Live Show in the undercover grandstand seating in the Outback Stockman Arena, up close and personal experience with the stars of the show – human and four-legged, live sheep muster, working dogs, horsemanship, stockman activities. In the cinema, watch the Story of the Australian Stockman – A fully immersive cinematic experience showcasing virtual and real footage across a 16m screen–featuring the birth of a nation through the eyes of the Australian stockman. You will also enjoy exclusive access to the entire museum and galleries and a 2-course dinner before returning to your accommodation at approximately 8.30pm.
Day 3. WEDNESDAY 28 JULY – Winton
Full Buffet Breakfast. 9am – Transfer to board your private plane to continue your journey further west to Winton, the Dinosaur Capital of Australia, home of Waltzing Matilda and Queensland’s Boulder Opal; abundant in nature, culture and heritage. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to town and your accommodation. It was here at the Gregory on April 6, 1895, that Australia’s unofficial national anthem, Waltzing Matilda, was played in public for the first time. Enjoy a lunch in the Banjo’s beer garden before we transfer out to the Australian Age of Dinosaurs. The Australian Age of Dinosaurs Museum of Natural History is a world-class organisation and home to the world’s largest collection of Australia’s largest dinosaur fossils. The local guides will take you through the three sections of the museum – Lab, Collection Room and Dinosaur Canyon before ending your day with a sunset barbeque including drinks and nibbles. Return transfer to your accommodation and perhaps enjoy a stroll up the main street before retiring. Accommodation: North Gregory Hotel x 1 night
Day 4. THURSDAY 29 JULY – Birdsville
Full Buffet Breakfast. Check out of your accommodation and leaving luggage at the hotel, take the short walk to the Waltzing Matilda Centre, the first museum in the world dedicated to a song! Enjoy a couple of hours strolling through several galleries and exhibitions before a delicious morning tea is served. Transfer late this morning back to Winton Airport to board your plane and fly over the Diamantina River Catchment area for the Lake Eyre Basin, the Diamantina Lakes and the largest claypan in the world. A light lunch of sandwiches with a cuppa will be served on board your flight to Birdsville. Deep in the heart of wild and isolated country, Birdsville is situated between the eastern edge of the Simpson Desert, the vast gibber plains of Sturt’s Stony Desert to the south and rich Channel Country to the north. Upon arrival, it is just a short walk across the road to your accommodation at the historic outback pub! Enjoy some free time to wander around this quaint little outback town and perhaps drop over to the Birdsville Bakery for a famous curried camel pie. Late this afternoon we will join Birdsville Adventure Tours for an adventure further west to the tallest sand dune in the Simpson Desert – Big Red. This will be an incredibly special moment and one to cherish, standing on top of big red, cracking a cold beer or enjoying a red / white wine from the Barossa or McLaren Vale regions is going to give you a lifelong memory of Birdsville and the desert along with hand selected platters. Return to the Birdsville Hotel for dinner and make sure you check out the front bar of this historic pub! Accommodation: Birdsville Hotel/Motel x 1 night
Day 5. FRIDAY 30 JULY – Arrive Brisbane
A full breakfast awaits you this morning before wandering back to your plane and flight to St. George. Enroute you’ll fly over the Cooper Creek Channel Country and Graham will be telling you all about this amazing creek, that two rivers combine to create. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to Riversands Winery, on the banks of the Balonne River and the furthest winery in the west. Enjoy a delicious lunch and wine tasting before embarking on the final leg of your outback adventure. Arrive back to Brisbane approximately 5pm.
