DAY 2 – MITTA VALLEY DARTMOUTH DAM

This morning we tour into the Mitta Valley – home to Australia’s largest man made dam and highest mountain in Victoria. The dam holds seven times more water than Sydney Harbour! There will also be a stop at the Lake Dartmouth Info Centre with models of the lake and a short video on the construction process. Lunch will be at the Dartmouth Tavern in a delightful setting on the verandah overlooking exquisite alpine scenery. Overnight: Albury Paddlesteamer Motel (B,L,D)

DAY 3 – ALBURY, YARRAWONGA, MV PARADISE QUEEN CRUISE, ECHUCA

Today we follow the Murray Valley Highway west towards Echuca. First stop is Yarrawonga and Lake Mulwala where we have arranged a cruise aboard the MV Paradise Queen. We will cruise past towering river red gums and dozens of sandy beaches whilst enjoying morning tea. Then it’s back on the coach and on to Byramine Homestead which is one of the oldest homes in Australia. We enjoy a tour of the homestead and lunch before our afternoon drive to Echuca. Overnight: Echuca / Moama Motor Inn (B,L,D)

DAY 4 – ECHUCA PRIDE OF THE MURRAY CRUISE

This morning we discover the Echuca Port. Our guide will point out areas of interest and fill us with tales of the colourful people who “crewed” the old river boats. We also have a chance to look through Sharps Magic Movie House & Penny Arcade. Lunch today is on the river aboard the Pride of the Murray. We then make our way to Lake Boga which is home to the famous Catalina Flying Boat A24-30 – one of only four in Australia. From here we continue to Swan Hill for our stop this evening. Overnight: Campbell Motor Inn, Swan Hill (B,L,D)

DAY 5 – SWAN HILL, EUSTON PIONEER SETTLEMENT

This morning we are at the Pioneer Settlement Museum. The Settlement was founded to portray the development of inland Australia between 1830 and 1930. It contains over 50 historic buildings, many of which carry on the business of 100 years ago. After a light lunch here, we are on our way again, following the Murray Valley Highway. Our afternoon stop is at the picturesque township of Euston overlooking the Murray. We then arrive into Mildura for our overnight stay and dinner this evening. Overnight: Mildura Inlander Resort (B,L,D)

DAY 6 – MILDURA, RENMARK, PADDLE STEAMERS

This morning we board the PS Rothbury. Built in 1891, the Rothbury was one of the last “working” paddlesteamers on the Murray River. Late morning we continue west along the Sturt Highway and call into the tiny village of Paringa. It’s here we have our morning stop at Lock 5. Navigating the Murray River wouldn’t be possible without the series of locks and weirs that were built back in the 1920s and 1930s. We then cross the Paringa Suspension Bridge and drive into Renmark for a cruise aboard the PS Industry. Overnight: Berri Motor Inn (B,D)

DAY 7 – BANROCK STATION, MONASH

Today we have planned a visit to the award winning Banrock Station near Kingston on Murray and enjoy morning tea here overlooking the river. Our drive from here takes us over the Napper Bridge which crosses Chambers Creek and into the historic Overland Corner Hotel – a popular rest spot last century for drovers moving stock. We enjoy lunch before the drive to Monash. The town of Monash was proclaimed in 1921 and was named in honour of General Sir John Monash, highly decorated commander of the troops in WWI. Overnight: Berri Motor Inn (B,L,D)

DAY 8 – HISTORIC RIVERLANDS

This morning we explore Loxton. Much of the town’s fascinating history is on display at the Historical Village. We have free time to wander the Village before heading to nearby Glossop and Bella Lavender Estate. Afternoon tea with time to take a walk in the garden. Overnight: Berri Motor Inn (B,D)

DAY 9 – BLANCHETOWN, GOOLWA

Blanchetown this morning where we can see Lock 1 – the first of a series of seven locks on the Murray. The next town is Swan Reach and then Mannum. We continue to Goolwa where the Murray River finally enters the Southern Ocean. Here we board the Spirit of the Coorong for a luncheon cruise. The cruise takes us through the Goolwa Barrage, one of five constructed in the 1930s. Overnight: Motel Goolwa (B,L,D)

DAY 10 – VICTOR HARBOR ADELAIDE, HOME PORT

Unfortunately all good things must come to an end and we will make our way into Adelaide via Victor Harbor and connect with our return flight home at own arrangements (please arrange flights from 12noon).
