DAY 1. Thursday 20 December – Arrive Perth (D)
Arrive in Perth to meet your coach captain to enjoy a city orientation tour of Western Australia’s stunning capital on the southeast coast. 3 Night Stay: Pan Pacific Hotel in Deluxe Rooms, Perth
DAY 2. Friday 21 December – Rottnest Island (B,L,D)
After a relaxing start to the day, we board a ferry bound for Rottnest Island. We take in the unique fauna and flora, stunning beaches, woodlands and salt lakes with our local guide, and maybe even spot a Quokka or two. We see the Wadjemup Lighthouse and Cathedral Rocks, ride the historic train and enjoy a break at the Rottnest Quokka Arms Pub before returning to the mainland. GGP
DAY 3. Saturday 22 December – Swan Valley (B,L,D)
Travel through the Swan Valley to New Norcia, Australia’s only monastic town which is renowned for its Benedictine Abbey. Drive through the town and learn of the intriguing history and culture of the community. We visit a produce shop for the chance to purchase Benedictine Community goods including olive oil, fruit, wine, New Norcia nut cake and breads, then visit the museum and art gallery. After lunch we return to the iconic Swan Valley to sample some of the regions famed delights such as chocolate, nougat and gourmet nuts. Enjoy an afternoon visit to The House of Honey before heading back to our hotel. GGP
DAY 4. Sunday 23 December – Indian Pacific (B,L,D)
This morning we board the mighty Indian Pacific checking in to our ‘Gold Service’ cabins. Watch as the city gives way to the verdant greens of the Avon Valley and dine in the elegantly appointed Queen Adelaide restaurant as the changing views take us toward the wild west town of Kalgoorlie Boulder. Enjoy the evening here in Australia’s largest regional town before our journey continues further east. 3 Night Stay: Indian Pacific in Gold Service
DAY 5. Monday 24 December – Indian Pacific (B,L,D)
Wake this morning to the vast horizon of the sweeping Nullarbor Plain, an awe-inspiring sight. The train will make a stop, literally in the middle of nowhere, at Cook, once a bustling railway community, now effectively a ghost town. Returning to the tracks the rest of the day is yours to enjoy the old world glamour of rail travel as we traverse the longest single stretch of railway in the world.
DAY 6. Tuesday 25 December – Merry Christmas (B,L,D)
Merry Christmas and what a unique way to spend this festive day! Enjoy the onboard festivities and yuletide surprises as we continue our rail journey making our first stop for the day in Adelaide. Here the choice is yours; discover the city, shops and markets or take a coach ride into the Adelaide Hills. Be back on board for our celebratory Christmas Day lunch and watch pastures give way to the tough mallee scrub as we head for Broken Hill. Early evening we arrive in this classic outback town known as ‘The Silver City’. Here we have the opportunity to visit the Pro Hart Gallery, the Broken Earth complex or the Miners Memorial. Re-board in time for dinner and continue through the night towards Sydney.
DAY 7. Wednesday 26 December – Blue Mountains & Sydney Sights (B,L,D)
We awake to views of the Blue Mountains then disembark at Mount Victoria to discover this picturesque region, known for its rugged landscape and dramatic scenery. We then make the final leg of our journey to Sydney Central by the regional passenger service. On arrival we take an orientation tour of Sydney including the famous Opera House, Mrs Macquarie’s Chair and the Town Hall before checking in to our hotel. 3 Night Stay: Park Royal, Darling Harbour
DAY 8. Thursday 27 December – Riverboat Postman Cruise (B,D)
Today we join the Riverboat Postman, established in 1910, as it delivers mail and other essentials to the river-access-only settlements on the Lower Hawkesbury River. All the skippers are locals who have lived in the area their whole lives. Enjoy lunch on board and be entertained by the stories of the river whilst cruising in comfort up this spectacular waterway. On returning to Sydney the rest of the afternoon is at your leisure; perhaps visit one of the many attractions that are within walking distance of the hotel. **Lunch at own expense today. GGP
DAY 9. Friday 28 December – Sydney Touring (B,L,D)
This morning we visit Madame Tussauds to get up close and personal with the life-like wax figures of our favourite stars and sports heroes; sit at Obama’s desk, jump on stage with Taylor Swift, and strike a pose with Nicole Kidman just to name a few. We then take an underwater journey through the world famous Sea Life Sydney Aquarium. Discover the diversity of Australian aquatic life with over 700 species and 13,000 individual fish and other sea and water creatures on display. Tonight, get ready for a night of glitz and glamour aboard the Sydney Showboat! Our finale evening will see you dining in style with live cabaret entertainment as we cruise Sydney Harbour on this elegant paddle wheeler. GGP
DAY 10. Saturday 29 December – Flights Home (B,L)
We make a relaxed start to the day before visiting Hyde Park Barracks. Built in 1819 by convict labour, it is one of Sydney’s most elegant historic buildings, once housing over 1500 male convict men and boys. Enjoy a farewell lunch before being transferred to the airport for our flights home.
