DAY 1. Wednesday 19 December – Arrive Adelaide (D)
Flights arrive in Adelaide where we make our way to McLaren Vale for time to discover Hardys Tintara, The Almond Train and Menz FruChocs Shop before continuing on to Cape Jervis. We board the ferry to the pristine wilderness of Kangaroo Island and check-in to our hotel. 2 Night Stay: Seaside Inn, Kangaroo Island
DAY 2. Thursday 20 December – Kangaroo Island (B,L,D)
Today we hit the wildlife trail discovering Flinders Chase National Park, Remarkable Rocks and Admirals Arch before experiencing the Birds of Prey display at Raptor Domain, an in-flight presentation featuring Australian eagles and hawks. To finish off the day we take in the scenery as we drive to Seal Bay Conservation Park where Australian sea lions sunbathe and frolic on a stunning beach. We take a guided walk to get a close look at the sea lion colony, home to around 600 rare Australian sea lions, then return to Kingscote.
DAY 3. Friday 21 December ’ Kangaroo Island, Board Proud Mary (B,L,AT,D)
This morning we visit Rob’s shearing and sheepdogs, a truly authentic Australian experience where Rob and his dogs skilfully muster and yard sheep. We then make a stop at Dudley Wines for lunch before boarding the ferry to the mainland and breaking in Victor Harbor. Arriving at Murray Bridge we are welcomed aboard by the friendly Proud Mary crew. Taking to the river we enjoy a buffet supper as the Proud Mary’s powerful floodlights illuminate the shore giving us ample opportunity to view nocturnal animals in their natural habitat. Later we tie up for the night at Woodlane. 7 Night Stay: Proud Mary
DAY 4. Saturday 22 December – Proud Mary (B,L,D)
Cruising upstream we arrive mid morning in picturesque Mannum, the birthplace of the river boat trade. Here we board the waiting coach for a guided tour of historic Mannum. Later we continue upstream to Walkers Flat and this evening after dinner take a guided nocturnal discover tour. The tour gives an insight into abundant wildlife in this region including the Southern hairy-nosed wombat. Tonight’s mooring is at Walkers Flat.
DAY 5. Sunday 23 December – Proud Mary (B,L,D)
Departing Walkers Flat and cruising further upstream we enjoy a scrumptious breakfast and a relaxed morning taking in the ever-changing vista. We break in Swan Reach then continue on past Moorundie Creek named after the Aboriginal tribe that lived there. This evening we moor on a beautiful beach amongst towering river red gums at Blanchetown, neighbouring Lock 1. Take a stroll with the Captain and learn about the lock before settling in
for dinner and another relaxing evening on board.
DAY 6 Monday 24 December – Proud Mary (B,L,D)
Today we cruise through Lock 1 before taking in the Captain’s talk on the Murray River. Later we arrive in historic Morgan, once one of the busiest South Australian Murray River ports, which is located on the Great Elbow of the Murray River. We tour the many heritage sights of this once booming riverside town including the customs house and courthouse on Railway Terrace. We reboard the Proud Mary and head to Caudo Winery and Vineyard for a cellar door tasting, then return to Morgan to secure overnight.
DAY 7. Tuesday 25 December – Proud Mary (B,L,D)
Merry Christmas! After breakfast we stretch our legs on a discovery walk around Morgan before heading back to Lock 1. We tie up here and celebrate the day in earnest with a traditional Christmas lunch accompanied by a host of yuletide trimmings. While away this afternoon enjoying one of the most unspoilt and picturesque areas of the Murray River, then after a light dinner get set to challenge your fellow guests as it’s games night on board.
DAY 8. Wednesday 26 December – Proud Mary (B,L,D)
This morning we cruise through Lock 1 and are treated to breathtaking views of the cliff faces lining the river. After lunch we arrive at the Big Bend where the cliffs are even more spectacular. Here we embark on a guided tour led by an ecologist aboard a small boat through the lagoons and inlets of Big Bend. This evening we enjoy live entertainment and a campfire BBQ on the banks of the river at Big Bend.
DAY 9. Thursday 27 December – Proud Mary (B,L,D)
This morning there’s time for further exploration of the tranquil Australian bush before we continue downstream through some of the most spectacular scenery on the entire river system to arrive at Ngaut Ngaut – a historical Aboriginal site. Here an Indigenous guide explains the carvings and paintings on cliff faces made up to 20,000 years ago. Later in the afternoon we arrive in Mannum for cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and a formal Captain’s Dinner.
DAY 10. Friday 28 December – Proud Mary (B,L,D)
This morning at Woodlane we join our guide for a tour of this fascinating area and discover the permanent watercourse, waterfalls, swamps and wetlands which played a significant role in the lives of the ancient Nganguruku and Ngaralta tribes. This afternoon we enjoy some more spectacular scenery before returning to Murray Bridge, bidding the Proud Mary goodbye and transferring to Adelaide. 1 Night Stay: Mercure Grosvenor Hotel, Adelaide
DAY 11. Saturday 29 December – Disembark, Flights Home (B)
Our morning starts with a city tour of Adelaide taking in North Terrace Cultural Boulevard, the Adelaide Oval and St Peter’s Cathedral. We then head to Mount Lofty Summit for an unforgettable view of the city and surrounds before making our way to the airport for our flights home.
