DAY 1 – Arrive Darwin (D)
Flights arrive into Darwin Airport where we are met by our local coach captain for the start of a twelve-day adventure of Australia’s Kakadu and Kimberley regions. Our afternoon takes us on a guided cruise of the Darwin shoreline finishing with a visit to the RFDS Museum. DAY 2 – Litchfield National Park, Sunset Cruise (B,L,D)
Today we discover Litchfield National Park taking in the inspiring views of Tabletop Range, a sandstone plateau adorned with a curtain of cascading waterfalls. Marvel at the termite mounds and learn how these astonishing structures are built by armies of tiny insects. We then make our way to Florence Falls lookout before making our way to Litchfield Café for lunch. Our afternoon takes us to nearby Wangi Falls, where year-round currents pour into a large swimming hole. Enjoy a refreshing dip before we make our way back to Darwin. This evening we dine out, enjoying a sumptuous seafood buffet whilst admiring the sunset over Darwin Harbour.
DAY 3 – Kakadu National Park, Ubirr (B,L,D)
Today takes us into World Heritage listed Kakadu National Park. This landscape of contrasts spans over 19,000sq km and will tantalise the senses with its abundance of flora, fauna, dreamtime connections and stunning vistas. We traverse the Magela floodplains and pass spectacular escarpments to the Aboriginal rock art site of Ubirr, where our guide takes us through the natural stone galleries giving an insight into the culture associated with these intriguing works of art. Discover paintings of spirit characters and the famous x-ray art depicting the internal structure of some of the animals of this country. **Please note: Strict Level 3 active fitness level required today. 2 Night Stay: Mercure Kakadu Crocodile Hotel, Jabiru
DAY 4 – Scenic Flight, Yellow Water wetlands cruise(B,L,D)
Taking to the skies we enjoy a 30-minute scenic flight over the Archway, Arnhemland escarpments, East Alligator Valley, Mikinj Valley billabongs and Magela floodplains. In Jabiru we visit the Bowali Visitor Centre and the Warradjan Aboriginal Cultural Centre, then lunch at Cooinda Lodge before embarking on a Yellow Water wetlands cruise, taking in part of the South Alligator River floodplain. Birdlife includes tiny azure kingfishers and white-bellied sea eagles, long-legged brolgas, jabirus and masses of magpie geese which migrate to Kakadu each dry season. Buffalo and brumbies roam the area and it’s Crocodylus central with an estimated four crocodiles per 100sqm.
DAY 5 – Pine Creek, Edith Falls, Thermal Hot Springs (B,L,D)
We leave the mighty Kakadu and travel to Pine Creek for lunch at the unique Lazy Lizard Tavern which is constructed from termite mound mud bricks. There’s time to discover this quirky Northern Territory icon before we make our way to the picturesque and refreshing Edith Falls then travel on to Katherine. 1 Night Stay: Ibis Styles, Katherine
DAY 6 – Katherine Gorge Cruise, Kununurra (B,L,D)
Enjoy a guided gorge cruise on the tranquil calm green waters of the Katherine River taking in some of the park’s 13 gorges. We then venture west along the Victoria Highway, stopping for lunch at Victoria River Crossing, before moving into the East Kimberley region. From here we continue on, breaking at Timber Creek then cross the WA border into Kununurra. 2 Night Stay: Kimberley Grande Resort, Kununurra
DAY 7 – Ord River Cruise (B,L,D)
A relaxed and awe-inspiring day today as we cruise the famous Ord River with its’ majestic appeal, rugged landscapes and plentiful wildlife. After lunch we return through Durack country to Kununurra for a free afternoon.
DAY 8 – Lake Argyle, Bungle Bungles and Argyle Diamond Mine Scenic Flight, Halls Creek (B,L,D)
Today we take to the skies on a breathtaking scenic flight over Lake Argyle, the Bungle Bungle Range and the Argyle Diamond Mine. Next we parallel the Durack Range to Halls Creek on the northern edge of the Great Sandy Desert and Tanami Desert, and the site of Western Australia’s first gold discovery. 1 Night Stay: Halls Creek Motel
DAY 9 – Fitzroy Crossing, Geikie Gorge Cruise (B,L,D)
This morning we travel through the open grasslands of the cattle stations to Fitzroy Crossing. We take time for lunch at the Fitzroy River Lodge, stretch our legs and then continue on to Danggu Geikie Gorge to take a cruise on the Fitzroy River. Witness the spectacular geography of the area, freshwater crocodiles and abundant birdlife, and gain insight into the Kimberley region’s rich indigenous history and culture. 1 Night Stay: Fitzroy River Lodge
DAY 10 – Derby, Broome (B,L,D)
Heading west we arrive at the township of Derby, the first town settled in the Kimberley, and home of the Boab Tree. We break for lunch here before continuing on to Broome, affectionally known as the ‘pearl of the north’. 2 Night Stay: Oaks Resort, Broome
DAY 11 – Willie Creek Pearl Farm, Pearl Riggers Museum, Cable Beach Camel Safari (B,L,D)
We visit Willie Creek Pearl Farm to discover how the Australian South Sea Cultured Pearl is produced, followed by a visit to the Pearl Luggers Museum and Broome Cemetery. This afternoon we take a camel safari ride along famous Cable Beach. **Please note: 95kg weight restrictions apply to camel ride.
DAY 12 – Flights Home (B)
Enjoy breakfast at your leisure before being transferred to the airport where we say our goodbyes and take our respective flights home.
