DAY 1 – Depart Brisbane

Depart for your journey on the Spirit of Queensland train in either RailBeds with all meals included plus pamper pack with the evening bed turndown, or Premium Economy seats. We make our way north and on through the night. (All meals on the train for RailBed passengers)

DAY 2 – Cairns Welcome

This morning you will wake for breakfast on the Spirit of Queensland. The train will pass through Townsville and then make its way along the picturesque Cassowary Coast, arriving in Cairns mid afternoon. You will be met by our friendly tour host and enjoy a Cairns Discovery Tour from the comfort of the coach before being transferred to the Cairns Queenslander. There is time to freshen up before dinner this evening at our accommodation. Overnight Cairns Queenslander (D)

DAY 3 – Gorgeous Green Island

Breakfast, then we depart for a great day on Green Island. A visit to the Great Barrier Reef is the most popular thing to do whilst in Cairns. Green Island is a beautiful coral cay on Australia’s Great Barrier Reef with unique island rainforests, surrounded by white sandy beaches & magnificent coral reefs and abundant marine life. We will cruise out to the Island on a large comfortable air-conditioned 35 metre catamaran. On arrival, we will enjoy a glass bottom boat tour so you can view the beautiful barrier reef without getting your feet wet. For those of you that want to be a bit more adventurous, you will have time to snorkel later in the day. We will also enjoy a delicious buffet luncheon on board. Overnight Cairns (B,L,D)

DAY 4 – Cairns to Townsville, Great Green Way

We depart Cairns by coach and head south to Townsville. This section of highway that is known as the Great Green Way, provides the most memorable scenery in Australia with mountains wrapped in rainforest, splendid waterfalls, magnificent fertile farmlands and breathtaking Coral Sea views. Passing through Innisfail, Tully, Cardwell and Ingham before arriving in Townsville mid afternoon, taking in points of interest along the way. We then depart on our Townsville Discovery tour including Castle Hill. As well as offering an iconic centre piece for the city and spectacular scenic views, Castle Hill has a significant history. A World War II observation bunker still sits on one corner of the hill reminding visitors of Castle Hill’s military history. Overnight Townsville (B,D)

DAY 5 – Magnetic Island

Today we explore beautiful Magnetic Island which earned its name by Captain Cook when he was mapping the coast line in 1770. We will see the natural beauty of the island which is home to Northern Australia’s largest colony of koalas living in the wild. The eucalypt forests and rugged landscape provide the ideal home for this unique ecosystem, perfect for koalas and many other Australian animals – 166 different species to be exact. Two thirds of Magnetic Island is National Park with secluded but easily accessible bays and golden beaches. The island is only 20 minutes from the city centre by an easy ferry ride. DAY 6 – Townsville to Airlie Beach

Departing Townsville, we make our way south passing through the town of Ayr which is prime sugar country, producing approximately 1.25 million tonnes of raw sugar annually. The Burdekin sits on a vast natural aquifer which is artificially replenished with water from the Burdekin River. The spectacular Burdekin River Bridge is the district’s best known landmark and is the longest crossing of its type in the country. Known as the Silver Link, it is the only bridge in Australia built without a firm foothold. Next we head to Bowen which of course is famous for the Bowen Mango contributing one-third of the nations mangos. It is also home to The Giant Mango amd was the main film location for the Baz Luhrmann movie ‘Australia’. After our stop, we continue on to Airlie Beach, arriving in time to discover the township before check in with time to relax before dinner. Overnight Airlie Beach (B,D)

DAY 7 – Hamilton Island Cruise & Whitehaven Beach

Following breakfast we transfer to the Port of Airlie and join our island day cruise to Hamilton Island and then on to the iconic Whitehaven Beach. Every destination on this cruise is beautiful and exciting in it’s own way. Cruise through the Whitsunday Islands National Park seeing the more remote bays, islands and beaches and step ashore Hamilton Island which is buzzing with activities, restaurants and resort attractions as well as the magnificent Whitehaven Beach which has been voted one of the best beaches in the world. We then return to our accommodation for dinner. Overnight Airlie Beach (B,L,D)

DAY 8 – Crocodile Safari, Board Spirit of Queensland

This morning we enjoy an exciting Crocodile Safari. No where else on the Queensland coast can you experience so much in one location. Whitsunday Crocodile Safari is a nature excursion into the estuaries and wetlands of the Whitsundays. This unique tropical environment is home to many species of native and migratory birds, mammals, reptiles and marine animals, including approximately 150 estuarine crocodiles. We will be treated to wonderful informative tour along with a tasty lunch. Then on to visit the Historical Proserpine Museum, where you can learn about the interesting history of this sugar cane and cattle town. The museum bridges the decades since Federation with historical displays that showcase the most significant achievements of the region during the last century. We then board our train for our return journey to Brisbane. Overnight Spirit of Queensland. (All meals on the train for RailBed passengers) (B,L)

DAY 9 – Arrive Home

Today you will arrive at your home station after enjoying a charming rail journey from North Queensland with your new found friends.The train is schedule to arrive at 9.20am.
