Day 1. Depart Brisbane

Depart for your overnight journey on the Spirit of Queensland train in either RailBeds with all meals included plus pamper pack with the evening bed turn down, or Premium Economy seats. The train is scheduled to depart at 3.45pm. (All meals on the train for RailBed passengers)

DAY 2 – Cairns Welcome

This morning the train will pass through Townsville and then make its way along the picturesque Cassowary Coast, arriving in Cairns mid afternoon. You will then be met by our friendly tour host and will be taken on a Cairns City sights tour before we check into the Cairns Queenslander. You will have time to freshen up before dinner this evening at our accommodation. Overnight Cairns Queenslander (D)

DAY 3 – Mossman Gorge, Daintree River, Port Douglas

Today we adventure into the Mossman Gorge. The Gorge has a very accessible and scenic section of the World Heritage listed Daintree National Park. Here the Mossman River tumbles its way over and around huge granite boulders that line the gorge creating cool clear freshwater swimming holes. We then make our way to the Daintree River for a cruise to spot crocs and other wildlife. Then into Port Douglas with time to explore the town and purchase lunch if you wish, before returning to Cairns in time for dinner this evening. Overnight Cairns Queenslander (B,MT,D)

DAY 4 – Gorgeous Green Island

Following breakfast, we depart for a great day on Green Island. A visit to the Great Barrier Reef is the most popular thing to do whilst in Cairns. Green Island is a beautiful coral cay on Australia’s Great Barrier Reef with unique island rainforests, surrounded by white sandy beaches & magnificent coral reefs and abundant marine life. We will cruise out to the island in luxury on a large comfortable air-conditioned 35 metre catamaran. On arrival, we will enjoy a glass bottom boat cruise so you can view the beautiful barrier reef without getting your feet wet. For those of you that want to be a bit more adventurous, you will have time to snorkel later in the day. We will also enjoy a delicious buffet luncheon on board. DAY 5 – Cairns to Townsville, Paronella Park, Great Green Way

Today we depart Cairns bound for Townsville. This section of highway that is known as the Great Green Way, provides the most memorable scenery in Australia with mountains wrapped in rainforest, splendid waterfalls, magnificent fertile farmlands and breathtaking Coral Sea views. We pass through Innisfail, and then into Paronella Park for our guided tour of the castle ruins followed by lunch. Arriving in Townsville mid afternoon, we depart on our Townsville Discovery tour including Castle Hill. As well as offering an iconic centrepiece for the city and spectacular scenic views, Castle Hill has a significant history. A World War II observation bunker still sits on one corner of the Hill reminding visitors of Castle Hill’s military history. Overnight Chifley Plaza, Townsville (B,D)

DAY 6 – Magnetic Island

Today we explore beautiful Magnetic Island which earned its name by Captain Cook when he was mapping the coast line in 1770. We will see the natural beauty of the island which is home to Northern Australia’s largest colony of koalas living in the wild. The eucalypt forests and rugged landscape provide the ideal home for this unique ecosystem, perfect for koalas and many other Australian animals – 166 different species to be exact. Two thirds of Magnetic Island is National Park with secluded but easily accessible bays and golden beaches. The island is only 20 minutes from the city centre by an easy ferry ride. DAY 7 – Townsville to Airlie Beach

Departing Townsville, we make our way south passing through the towns of Ayr which is prime sugar country with an annual production of about 1.25 million tonnes of raw sugar. The Burdekin region sits on a vast natural aquifer which is artificially replenished with water from the Burdekin River. The spectacular Burdekin River Bridge is the district’s best known landmark and is the longest crossing of its type in the country. Known as the Silver Link, it is the only bridge in Australia built without a firm foothold. Then on to Bowen, famous for the Bowen Mango which contributes one-third of the nations mangos. It is also home to The Giant Mango. After our stop, we continue on to Airlie Beach arriving in time to discover the township before check in with time to relax before dinner. Day 8. WHITSUNDAY CRUISE, Board Spirit of Queensland

Following breakfast we will transfer to the Port of Airlie and join our island day cruise. Explore the Whitsundays on a full day guided tour. Cruise through the Whitsunday Islands National Park seeing the remote bays, islands and beaches. We enjoy a buffet lunch and step ashore at Hamilton Island & Whitehaven Beach, which has been voted the best beach in the world. Upon return, we make our way to the Proserpine train station and meet the Spirit of Queensland for our journey home. Overnight Spirit of Queensland (B,L)

DAY 9. Arrive Brisbane

Today you will arrive at your home station after enjoying a charming rail journey from North Queensland with your new found friends. The train is scheduled to arrive at 9.20am.
