Arriving in Darwin this afternoon, we will make our way and check in to our accommodation for the next 3 nights. We are lucky enough to be in Darwin on a Sunday so we are going to take the chance to explore the famous Mindil Beach Sunset Market. It is a major social event for the region and this fabulous local market offers over 200 stalls with nearly 60 food stalls from more than 30 different countries. Time to purchase some dinner if you wish while enjoying the stunning sunset over the Timor Sea. Overnight Darwin Palms City Resort

Today we enjoy a leisurely breakfast before taking in the sights of Darwin. Many people aren’t aware of the importance of Darwin during WWII. We see the new Parliament House built on the site of the Darwin Post Office bombed during the war, the port area plus the many other fascinating sights of Australia’s northern gateway. We then take a drive through Fannie Bay, popular with sailors, windsurfers and water skiers to East Point where we visit the Military Museum. Here we discover how the Japanese raids on Darwin were kept a secret from the Australian population and have now been made public. Later this afternoon, we depart for our cruise. Watch the sun setting over Darwin Harbour while you enjoy a delicious seafood and local produce buffet dinner. Overnight Darwin Palms City Resort (B,D)

Today we spend the day in the beautiful Kakadu National Park. It is an early start this morning as we travel across Adelaide River and Marrakai Plains and deep into Kakadu. Stop at Nourlangie Rock, where you can view ancient Aboriginal rock art. After lunch we take a 1.5 hour cruise on the famous Yellow Water Billabong. Search for saltwater crocodiles and the colourful range of birdlife for which Kakadu National Park is renowned. Visit the Warradjan Cultural Centre and view the informative displays depicting the traditions of the Aboriginal people in Kakadu, before returning to Darwin. Overnight Darwin Palms City Resort (B,L,D)

Today we arrive in Alice Springs ready for another day of exploration. Here you have the opportunity to embark on one of the included off train excursions, taking in the delights of this famous outback town. After breakfast this morning you’ll wake up and rub your eyes with disbelief as we pull into the middle-of-nowhere stop at Manguri. Here, a friendly tour guide awaits ready to whisk you away for the day. Your destination – the sun-scorched opal mining capital of the world, Coober Pedy. Venture into the tunnels and caves of this underground town, where you may even catch opal fever as you mine for riches, and visit the otherworldly underground Serbian Orthodox church. Below the earth’s surface, you’ll enjoy a gourmet lunch in the most unique of locations before setting off to the stunning outback moonscape that is the Breakaways. Overnight Ghan (B,L,D)

This morning you’ll notice a dramatic change in landscape as the rich ochre tones of the outback make way for the beautiful green fields and pastoral lands of South Australia. After breakfast you’ll have time to reflect on your journey before The Ghan rolls into Adelaide. Here we will be met by our coach and transfer to the Adelaide City Markets for a wander around before departing on a tour of the Adelaide Oval. This iconic sports ground, has undergone a major renovation and you will have the opportunity to go into the back rooms and see what the general public doesn’t. (B,AT,D)
