Day 1. Wed: Arrive Charleville

Arrive Charleville, enjoy a welcome tour including lunch, then meet the rare and endangered Bilby. Visit Charleville Airport precinct with the Royal Flying Doctor hangar and remnant reminders of our World War II involvement. This evening experience the spectacular Cosmos Centre Night Show followed by dinner. Overnight Mulga Country Motor Inn Charleville. (LD)

Day 2. Thu: Cunnamulla, Eulo, Thargomindah

Depart Charleville and follow the Warrego River to Cunnamulla to meet the Cunnamulla Fella. Then travel onto discovering the quaint township of Eulo, visiting the Date Farm Gift Shop, enjoy the tales of Isabel ‘The Eulo Queen’ and see the Eulo mud springs. Travel on to Thargomindah and learn its historic electrical street lighting story.  Overnight Oasis Motel or Explorer Cabins Thargomindah (BLD)

Day 3. Fri: Tibooburra

Travel southwest across the Dingo Barrier Fence to the Noccundra Hotel and the border crossing at the Warri Gate. Now in outback NSW view the eastern sections of the Sturt National Park enroute to Tibooburra. Traverse gibber country and spectacular ‘jump up’ country arriving in Tibooburra. Explore the National Parks Interpretive Centre and Court House Museum.  At sunset soak up the significance of Sturt the explorer’s survival in harsh conditions. Day 4. Sat: Innamincka

Journey through diverse landscapes of Sturt National Park to Cameron’s Corner, where three states of Australia meet. Experience the red sand dunes of the famous Strzelecki Desert and pass large cattle stations operating in tough outback conditions. Evidence of the region’s natural wealth can be seen as we travel through the heart of the oil and gas fields and isolated installations. Day 5. Sun: Innamincka

Tour the pioneer graves, retrace the last days of Burke and Wills and hear about the town with two lives. Inspect the hot rock project at the Geo Dynamics Installation harnessing the energy from the earth’s natural hot granites deep beneath the surface. Explore the restored Australian Inland Mission building, the Innamincka Trading Post or just relax around Coopers Creek. Day 6. Mon: Birdsville

Follow the Strzelecki Desert through the predominantly Gibber Country broken with sand dunes and Channel Country. Visit the iconic Burke & Wills Dig Tree moving through the changing desert environments before reaching Birdsville where the Channel Country meets the Simpson and Strzelecki Deserts. Day 7. Tue: Birdsville

Visit the Birdsville Burke and Wills Tree on the Diamantina River and the well known Birdsville Racetrack. Enjoy some free time after lunch to explore the Wirrari Centre, Wolfgang’s Art House, Birdsville Billabong and the Inland Hospital and Royal Hotel ruins. A tour highlight is our sunset happy hour atop the stunning red dunes of Big Red on the edge of the Simpson Desert National Park. Feel the very soul of Australia as the sun goes down over the heart of the outback. Dinner tonight is at the iconic Birdsville Hotel featuring a Flying Doctor Auction. Day 8. Wed: Longreach

Travel to the ghost town of Betoota and then visit Deon’s Lookout for amazing views of the Diamantina Shire. Travelling on to Windorah we meet Cooper Creek, making our way up one of its major tributaries, the mighty Thomson River, to visit the watering holes of Jundah and Stonehenge. Delight in spectacular scenery of rugged beauty and vast open plains as we cross the coolabah-lined creeks en route to Longreach. Overnight Albert Park Motor Inn Longreach. (BLD)

Day 9. Thu: End of Tour

Depart Longreach via rail or air after an amazing journey of a lifetime. Note: Breakfast is not included on this day.
