Day 1. Depart Brisbane or Melbourne for Sydney, Join The Indian Pacific
Departing from your home port this morning, you will arrive in Sydney to join the Indian Pacific in Gold Service and embark on an epic transcontinental journey across Australia to Perth. Overnight: Indian Pacific (D)
Day 2. Indian Pacific – Broken Hill, Adelaide
Broken Hill, a classic mining town where the streets are wide and there is a pub on every corner. On your off train excursion we visit the Pro Hart Gallery and many other attractions. We reboard and continue on to Adelaide where we explore by coach some boutique wineries or Hahdorf Village. Overnight Indian Pacific (B,L,D & all beverages)
Day 3. Indian Pacific – Rawlinna
Overnight we will have made our way from South Australia into Western Australia. Wake up and marvel at the raw beauty of the Nullarbor. Take some time to reflect on the changing landscapes in your journey and to enjoy the hospitality of the Outback Explorer Lounge. Your sense of wonder will be well and truly ignited when it comes time to set foot at Rawlinna that evening. Under brilliant desert stars, enjoy an evening stop to partake in a traditional Outback dinner under the wide Nullarbor skies while enjoying a chilled beverage and canapés. Day 4. Indian Pacific – Arrive Perth
This morning the Avon Valley comes into view. The mild skies and cool green vales of this picturesque part of the world will truly delight. Arriving into Perth after lunch, we will be met by our coach and enjoy an orientation tour of this beautiful city including panoramic views of city’s skyline from Kings Park before make our way to our accommodation. Day 5. Swan River Cruise & Fremantle
Today after breakfast we will depart on our relaxing cruise on the Swan River with interesting commentary of the sights and history en route to Fremantle. We will then enjoy a fascinating tour of the port city learning of its colourful history. After building up our appetites we will re-board our vessel and enjoy a delicious buffet lunch on our journey back to the city. Overnight Quality Hotel Ambassador Perth (B,L,D)
DAY 6. The Pinnacles, Benedictine Abbey
Travelling through the Swan Valley we arrive at New Norcia, which is renowned for its Benedictine Abbey. We visit the famous Benedictine community with a guided tour of the town and main sites. Next we move on to the Abbey Church, followed by a visit to St Gertrude’s College, a grand gothic style building which opened in 1908. Fish and chips for lunch at the New Norcia Hotel the it’s off to the Western Wildflower Farm for a talk about how wildflowers are dried and exported. We continue on for an easy paced walk through the mystical Pinnacles Desert and see the Pinnacles from the look out over the park and if time permits, make a visit to the Pinnacles Desert Discovery Centre. DAY 7. Margaret River & South West
Today we travel south driving through farmland with grazing cattle and passing by coastal towns. Arriving at Busselton, we stop for morning tea (own expense) at the iconic Busselton Jetty, the longest timber jetty in the southern hemisphere. Then to Margaret River Brewery for a gourmet platter lunch with complimentary beer and cider tastings. Following lunch, it’s on to Mammoth Cave for a guided tour through this gothic cave with vast chambers. We continue south, through the Boranup Forest of enormous Karri Trees and reach Augusta – a fascinating part of the region. Here at Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse, marvel at the rare meeting point of the Southern & Indian Oceans. We then head north to the township of Margaret River and stroll the main street, taking a break for a light dinner (own expense) then it’s back to Perth arriving later in the evening. Day 8. Perth Mint Tour, Depart Perth
Following breakfast we will depart for the Perth Mint. We will enjoy a guided tour of this grand heritage building learning of the allure of gold that was established as a branch of Britain’s Royal Mint in 1899. We then depart for our journey home after one of the most fascinating rail journeys in the world. (B)
