DAY 1. Saturday – Depart Brisbane on the Spirit of the Outback
Depart on the Spirit of the Outback (scheduled to depart at 4.10pm) for your journey to Longreach. Relax and enjoy the views of the rugged mountain ranges and farming areas of the Queensland coast before making our way inland on our Outback Adventure. Overnight Spirit of the Outback (All meals included in First Class Sleepers)
DAY 2. Sunday – Arrive Longreach
Upon waking this morning on the train, the green hills of the coast have given way to the color of rustic reds and sunburnt plains. We pass through historical towns of the outback on our way into Longreach arriving at 5.50pm. This evening we have time to enjoy the amazing new Luminescent Longreach which is a 20 minute spectacular night time light and sound experience designed to delight, entertain, inform and move. Stand amongst iconic aircraft as world class projection mapping and 360 degree immersive sound brings the 100 year story of Qantas to life with the mighty Boeing 747 serving as a primary canvas. Told through 3D animation, traditional animation and illustration, Luminescent Longreach weaves an unforgettable narrative through time, a story of the daring spirit of early aviation, of iconic aircraft, wars, distant places and outback innovation. DAY 3. Monday – Stockman’s Hall of Fame, QANTAS Museum, Thomson River Cruise, Campfire Dinner
Following breakfast this morning, we make our way to the Stockman’s Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame is a spectacular tribute to the people of outback Australia. It tells the story of the establishment of grazing, agriculture, mining, forestry and other industries in country. Themes also include development of the outback properties, living in the outback and the stock worker. Next is the Qantas Founders Museum for a tour of the 747, Original Hangar and Museum, enjoying the many the QANTAS stories. Late afternoon we depart for a delightful Sunset Cruise on the Thomson River, followed by a riverside Outback Campfire dinner. Overnight Longreach Motor Inn or Longreach Tourist Park (B,D)
DAY 4. Tuesday – Winton, Waltzing Matilda Centre, Australian Age of Dinosaurs, Dinner with the Dino’s
Today we head to Winton and visit the new Waltzing Matilda Centre. This unique and eccentric town has some very interesting things to see. Here we will visit Arnos Wall, constructed of concrete and rock and studded with rusted lawnmower parts, boat propellers, vintage typewriters and sewing machines and even a couple of complete motorbikes. We also visit the Musical Fence – the world’s first permanent musical fence installation. Banjo Patterson’s Music Wall is also a ‘must’ as it was in Winton, that Banjo first recited Australia’s second national anthem, Waltzing Matilda. We then make our way to the Australian Age of Dinosaurs Museum of Natural History where we enjoy a guided tour of the Museum which houses the largest collection of unique Australian dinosaur fossils on display for everyone to see. Tonight we enjoy a very unique dinner as we dine outdoors at the museum with the dinosaurs. Watch the amazing sun set over the vast savannah plains from the Jump Up as you enjoy a hearty BBQ feast under the stars while soaking up the amazing outback scenery. 2 Nights: Boulder Opal Motor Inn or Winton Outback Motel (B,D)
DAY 5. Wednesday – Three Sisters of the Outback, Lark Quarry Trackways, Dinosaur Stampede
Today we enjoy a day of discovery as we make our way to the Three Sisters, located on a private station located outside of Winton. Great Value Holidays has exclusive access on the station to view the unique rock formations. Formed over millions of years, these rock formations rise up out of the surrounding plains to make a lasting statement of the ancient outback. We then depart for Lark Quarry to view the amazing fossilised rock formations from a 95 million year old dinosaur stampede. Following our lunch, we return to Winton with time to freshen up for our farewell dinner. (B,L,D)
DAY 6. Thursday – Depart Longreach, Board Spirit of the Outback
An early start sees us travelling back to Longreach to meet the train for your return and board the Spirit of the Outback for a magical journey home. Relax and enjoy the rugged mountain ranges, sunburnt plains and historical towns of the Outback.. (B)
DAY 7. Friday – Arrive Brisbane
Today you will arrive at your home station after enjoying a charming rail journey from Queensland Outback with lots of fond memories of incredible Longreach, Winton and the Big Sky Country. The train is scheduled to arrive at 9.55am.
