DAY 1 Wednesday – Brisbane to Roma

Departing on our luxury ‘Gold Class’ coach from level 3 of the Roma Street Transit Centre, Brisbane, we travel through the rich fertile area of the Lockyer Valley, arriving at Picnic Point Toowoomba, for a cuppa, taking time to admire the stunning view. We continue on through Dalby, breaking for lunch at Chinchilla, then make our way to Roma. Overnight Stay: Explorers Inn (MT,L,D)

DAY 2 Thursday – Roma, Injune, Carnarvon Gorge

This morning we get to visit Roma’s Cattle Sales (the largest in Australia). Join a local cattle farmer on the raised walkway around the yards, providing us with an excellent vantage point over the proceedings. We then head north, breaking at Injune, before making our way into the Carnarvon Gorge National Park, a spectacular oasis hidden in the rugged ranges of Queensland’s Central Highlands. Featuring towering sandstone cliffs, vibrantly coloured side gorges, diverse flora and fauna and Aboriginal Rock Art. Arrive and check-in to unique timber and canvas Safari Cabins that ooze outback charm and blend unobtrusively into the natural bush land. 3 Night Stay: Carnarvon Gorge Wilderness Lodge (B,MT,L,D)

DAY 3 Friday – Carnarvon Gorge

Today we have organised a range of walking tours (not compulsory) with different fitness levels for you to choose. Discover many shades of green, on the Moss Garden walk, offering a rich mosaic of mosses, ferns and lichens. Here the micro-climate sustains a lush rainforest environment. The Baloon Cave Aboriginal cultural walk is a short walk among the fan palms and cycads and leads to a small sandstone overhang featuring stencilled Aboriginal rock art. (B,L,D)

DAY 4 Saturday – Carnarvon Gorge

Today we have chartered Hell-Central to give you a birds-eye view of the sandstone cliffs and picturesque gorges of the famous Carnarvon National Park. Absolutely the best view of the plateau! Take in a 20 minute flight in a modern, comfortable helicopter and see the whiter cliffs and hidden wonders that cannot be seen any other way. Sit back and watch as Carnarvon Gorge opens up into the vast bushland. We climb up to 1500ft then turn to track along the white cliff faces and escarpments separated by narrow gorges and streams of the Moolayamber National Park. (B,L,D)

DAY 5 Sunday – Rolleston, Biloela, Town of 1770

For the early rises you may wish to take a self-guided walk and discover the Dawn Nature Trail. This short stroll along the shady banks of Carnarvon Creek provides a snapshot of the plant life on the gorge floor. Departing our wildlife and wilderness oasis, we travel through cattle and crop country, breaking for a cuppa at Rolleston. We arrive at Greycliffe Homestead for a tour with local historian discovering the fascinating heritage and pioneering family of Biloela. Our afternoon takes us to the Town of 1770, a tiny town surrounded on three sides by the Coral Sea and Bustard Bay.(B,MT,L,D)

DAY 6 Monday – Town of 1770 and surrounds

This morning we take the ideal getaway on the Pink Amphibious LARC. The Paradise Tour takes us along the coastline of Eurimbula National Park, where we are given commentary on wildlife and the history of Bustard Bay. We cross four tidal creeks and 4WD drive up the steep climb to the historic Bustard Head Light Station. Return to Lagoons 1770 Resort & Spa. (B,L,D)

DAY 7 Tuesday – Lady Musgrave Island

A vast, calm, turquoise lagoon like one big swimming pool with white sandy coral beaches completes the picture of Lady Musgrave Island and Coral Lagoon. The largest true coral cray on the outer Southern Great Barrier Reef and one of the 7 natural wonders of the world. The island is set on 3000 acres of living reef with a 100 acre calm coral lagoon that is unique to the entire Great Barrier Reef. The lagoon wall is exposed 2 1/2 metres at low tide with one entrance, as there is no current or swell. Our reef experience takes us on a glass bottom boat cruise with 6 metres of coral viewing, guided island walk and floating pontoon. Feed the tropical fish – in abundance around the pontoon, swim with the turtles, spot whales in season and more. (B,L,D)

DAY 8 Wednesday – Childers, Tiaro

Homeward bound this morning, breaking at historic Childers for a cuppa taking time to visit the Palace Backpacker memorial. Back on the road our next break is at the historic hideaway Hotel at Tiaro for a BBQ lunch in the beer garden. We return to Roma Street Transit Centre in Brisbane at approximately 4.30pm. (B,MT,L)
