Escorted Group Tour from Brisbane to Bundanoon return
Join us on the 35th annual Highland Gathering at Bundanoon! After the mist has lifted at dawn, the town of Bundanoon becomes Brigadoon for a day.
Departing approximately 8.00am from Roma Street Brisbane, we travel south through the Tweed Valley, on through Ballina and make our way to the coast, stopping at Yamba for lunch. We take a deviation from the highway to discover the Scottish Town of Maclean then onto Coffs Harbour to check-in to the lovely Novotel Coffs Harbour Pacific Bay Resort. (MT,L,D)
This morning we travel through Kempsey and on to Port Macquarie for a look-about tour.We continue heading south stopping at Bulahdelah for lunch. We continue on travelling to Gosford for an overnight stay at the Quality Inn The Willows. (B,MT,L,D)
This morning we travel to the top of Bulli Pass, breaking for lunch at the beautiful Panorama Restaurant, offering a bird’s eye view of the Illawarra Coast. We travel down Bulli Pass to the coast to discover the Sea Cliff Bridge (a 2 kilometre stretch of road built on pylons off- shore). We then take the coastal strip to Kiama to check-in at the stylish 4.5 star Sebel Harbourside Resort. (B,L,D)
This morning we join a guide and tour the Nan Tien Temple, taking in the unique visual experience of the buildings, statues, shrines & beautiful gardens. Afterwards we part-take in a traditional lunch at the temple before we make our way up the Illawarra Escarpment into the Southern Highlands visiting the Bradman Museum. Arrive and check-in at the lavish Peppers Craigieburn Resort for 2 nights. (B,L,D)
Today Bundanoon is Brigadoon for a day. We are treated to the Street Parade with Massed Pipe Bands, Marching Scottish Clans and decorated floats. After the opening ceremony there are Scottish Country & Highland dancing demonstrations, individual pipe band displays, Highland Cavaliers and Southern Highland Kennel & Obedience Club display. The feature event with the `Tartan Warriors’ lifting the Bundanoon Stones is a highlight, along with traditional and not so traditional games and activities such as the Hay Toss, Shot Put, Caber Toss, Kilted Dash, Egg Throwing, Water Toss and more. With over 100 variety & speciality stores, 30 variety food stalls, art, crafts, Scottish goods and tartans, this day is a hive of activity. We finish our day at the closing ceremony after the Lone Piper performance, and then return to Peppers Craigieburn Resort. (B,D)
After breakfast we travel via the Western Freeway to the Blue Mountains with a stop at Katoomba and the ‘Three Sisters’ for morning tea. We descend the Great Dividing Range, travelling through Lithgow and onto Rylstone for lunch. After our break we take the picturesque route through the Wollemi National Park via the Bylong Valley Way into the Hunter region of Muswellbrook. Arrive and check-in at Airlie House Boutique Hotel at Scone for an overnight stay. (B,L,D)
This morning we visit the Nundle Woollen Mill, for a tour of the mill, including the operation of the antique machinery, followed by lunch at the historic Peel Inn. Travelling north along Fossickers Way, we then join the New England Highway having a break in Captain Thunderbolt’s territory of Uralla. We bypass Armidale travelling through Guyra onto the charming rural town of Glen Innes known for its autumn colours and stately heritage-listed buildings. We check-in to the New England Motor Lodge for an overnight stay. (B,L,D)
This morning we travel through Tenterfield and cross the Queensland border town of Wallangarra, onto the Bramble Patch for morning tea. Enjoy the scenery of the grape growing district of Ballandean, and the stone fruit and apple growing area of Stanthorpe as we make our way to the ‘Rose and Rodeo’ city of Warwick, breaking for lunch before our return to Brisbane via the Cunningham Ranges.
