DAY 1. Depart Brisbane
Depart for your journey on your choice of travel on either the Tilt or Sunlander Trains. The train departs from Roma Street Station, Brisbane.
DAY 2. Explore Townsville and visit Castle Hill
Arrive at Townsville Station. Transfer to The Plaza for lunch. We will then depart on our City Orientation Tour, including a stop at Castle Hill, the large red rock monolith right in the heart of Townsville that offers panoramic views from the lookout where you will have a lovely photo opportunity. We will then be dropped at our accommodation. Time to unwind before a 2 course dinner. (L,D)
DAY 3. Cotters Markets, Tucker Museum & Castling Street Heritage Centre
Today after your hot and cold buffet breakfast the group will spend the morning exploring the Cotters Markets and maybe grab a souvenir or two, then visit the Perc Tucker Museum. We will then have lunch at The Plaza followed by a visit to the Castling Street Heritage Centre 3 restored colonial Queensland homes, a workers dwelling a grand villa residence and a farmhouse. Time to relax before 2 course dinner this evening. (B,L,D)
DAY 4. Tour of Magnetic Island
Full hot and cold buffet breakfast. Depart for Magnetic Island. Stop at the pretty Picnic Bay Hotel for morning tea followed by a discovery coach tour. Explore this beautiful Island which earned its name by Captain Cook when discovered in 1770. The group will then stop for a relaxing lunch overlooking Horse Shoe Bay at the friendly Marlin Bar, before making our way back to meet the ferry mid afternoon to travel back to the mainland. Enjoy another 2 course dinner at the Plaza this evening. (B,MT,L,D)
DAY 5. Museum of Tropical North Qld, Hervey’s Range Tour & Heritage Tea Gardens
Hot and cold buffet Breakfast. We will depart this morning to visit the Museum of Tropical North Qld. Enjoy a guided tour of the many exhibits before departing to make our way up Hervey’s Range enjoying the scenic views. We will stop at the historical Tea Gardens for our lunch. Believed to be the oldest known building in North Qld, this log cabin was the local watering hole for the bullock teams and Cobb and Co Coaches on their way to the gold fields. We will then make the return journey back to Townsville this afternoon. Tonight another great 2 course dinner. (B,L,D)
DAY 6. Army Museum of North Qld
Hot and cold buffet Breakfast. Today we will spend the morning on a guided tour of the Army of Tropical North Qld, learning of the strong military influence in the Townsville region during the war years. We will return to the Chifley Plaza, have lunch, time to freshen up collect our luggage and depart for the Station to board our train mid afternoon. (B,L)
Day 7. Arrive Home
You will arrive home today after a wonderful holiday and with new friends.
