7 Days Lake Eyre Spectacular 2012
Escorted Group Tour from Adelaide to Lake Eyre and Uluru
This tour includes a scenic flight over the incredible Lake Eyre, Clare Valley wine tastings, Coober Pedy, the Flinders Ranges and Uluru (Ayers Rock).
On arrival in Adelaide you will be transferred to your hotel. The remainder of the day is at leisure. Perhaps take a ride on Adelaide’s historic tram from Victoria Square to the beachside suburb of Glenelg. This evening join your Tour Director for a welcome drink. Hotel: Crowne Plaza, Adelaide.
See the sights of Adelaide on an orientation tour before we make our way north to sample some of the local wines at Sevenhill Cellars, the oldest existing winery in the Clare Valley. Later, travel through the Flinders Ranges, recognised as one of Australia’s national landscapes, to Wilpena Pound, a remarkable natural amphitheatre covering nearly 8,000 hectares.
Hotel: Wilpena Pound Resort, Flinders Ranges. (BD)
Explore Wilpena Pound and later journey through the Pitchi Richi Pass to Port Augusta. Spend time at the Wadlata Outback Centre, an interactive experience, the ‘outback’s tunnel of time’.
Hotel: Majestic Oasis Apartments, Port Augusta. (BD)
Stop at Woomera en route to isolated Coober Pedy, the opal capital! Here you’ll visit an underground church and home. Hotel: Desert Cave Hotel, Coober Pedy, 2 nights. (BD)
Board your flight for your half day adventure from Coober Pedy via Nilpinna Station and the Davenport Ranges to Lake Eyre, one of the world’s largest inland lakes. View the southern part of Lake Eyre North where the water is deepest, and some of its islands and peninsulas. Marvel at the expanse of water within the outback desert, a phenomenon that occurs only once every 10 years. Call in at William Creek, one of the smallest towns in Australia, for a light refreshment. Re-board your flight and return via Anna Creek, the world’s largest cattle station. On your way back to Coober Pedy you’ll see the Anna Creek Painted Hills, a spectacular and recently discovered section of the pristine Breakaways country. (BD)
This morning cross the border into the Northern Territory and continue to Ayers Rock Resort. Enjoy a complimentary glass of sparkling wine as the sunsets over the western horizon and the evening sky brings out the many shades of colour for which Uluru is renowned. Hotel: Desert Gardens Hotel, Ayers Rock Resort. (B)
Rise early and travel to the Uluru sunrise viewing area to watch the first rays of the sun set Uluru and the Red Centre alight. Later, you will be transferred to Ayers Rock Airport for your onward flight. (B)
