Day 1. Mon 30 Dec 2019 – Depart Brisbane (L,D)
Join the NEW epic rail journey aboard the Great Southern. As you depart Brisbane, settle into your cabin and enjoy the fabulous food, wine, service and social atmosphere of this exceptional journey. The northern New South Wales Coast stretches across 90km of incredible sandy beaches and some of the best surfing breaks in the world. Watch as the sun dips below the horizon and listen to the sound of waves lapping on the shore dining beachside on an off train excursion at Boamabee Beach. 3 Night Stay: Great Southern in Gold service
Day 2. Tue 31 Dec 2019 – Hunter Valley (B,L,D)
We enter wine country today taking a whistle-stop tour of the Hunter Valley meandering through picturesque vineyards, tantalising your taste buds sampling world-renowned brands and boutique cellar doors. Maybe purchase a bottle of bubbles after all it is NEW YEARS EVE.
Day 3. Wed 1 Jan 2020 – Victoria (B,L,D)
Today we enter Victoria and watch as verdant pastures roll on by as we head toward the coast. With a backdrop of mesmerising blue, the Twelve Apostles is a collection of majestic limestone rock stacks rising from the Southern Ocean on Victoria’s rugged coastline, just offshore of Port Campbell National Park. Today you’ll discover their ancient magic, as you ascend the dramatic cliff faces of the Great Ocean Road.
Day 4. Thu 2 Jan 2020 – Kangaroo Island (B,L,D)
We are scheduled to arrive into Adelaide at 9:30am this morning, ending an epic coastal rail adventure. We are greeted by our friendly local coach captain then take the scenic route to Cape Jervis to board the ferry to the pristine wilderness of Kangaroo Island. 2 Night Stay: Mercure Kangaroo Island Lodge
Day 5. Fri 3 Jan 2020 – Kangaroo Island (B,L,D)
Take in the scenery as we drive to Seal Bay Conservation Park where Australian sea lions sunbathe and frolic on a stunning beach. We take a guided walk along the beach to get a close look at the sea lion colony, home to around 600 rare Australian sea lions, then visit Emu Ridge Eucalyptus Distillery for tour, cider tasting and BBQ lunch. We continue on the wildlife trail experiencing the Birds of Prey display at Raptor Domain, and an inflight presentation featuring Australian eagles and hawks, before returning to Mercure Lodge.
Day 6. Sat 4 Jan 2020 – Adelaide (B,L,D)
This morning we visit Rob’s shearing and sheepdogs, a truly authentic Australian experience. Boarding the ferry, we leave Kangaroo Island and make our way to the McLaren Vale wine region breaking at Red Poles for lunch and wine tasting. Much more than a restaurant, tap into your creative side and feast your eyes on the mix of art on every wall. From wine to the coast our journey takes us via the Fleurieu Peninsula stopping at Port Noarlunga lookout to take in the views of the St Vincent Gulf waters. We finish our day checking into our hotel in Adelaide CBD precinct. 1 Night Stay: Peppers Weymouth, Adelaide
Day 7. Sun 5 Jan 2020 – Adelaide & Flights Home (B,L)
Enjoy an Adelaide city sights tour before heading up to Mount Lofty – Adelaide’s highest peak. Upon arrival in Hahndorf, spend some time exploring Australia’s oldest German settlement before we regather at the Hahndorf Inn for a traditional German themed lunch with music and all. We then make our way to the airport for our respective flights home.
