Day 1. Tuesday – Arrive Cairns (MT,L,D)
Flights arrive in Cairns late afternoon where we board our ‘Gold Class’ coach to transfer to the hotel for check-in. 6 Night Stay: Shangri-La Hotel, Cairns
Day 2. Wednesday – Daintree (B,L,D)
Today we venture into the Daintree for a river cruise discovering estuarine crocodiles, birds, frogs, pythons, tree snakes, butterflies and insects. Our afternoon takes us into the lush Mossman Gorge where we meet our local indigenous guide and set off through the rainforest on a guided nature walk. Learn about the ecosystem through the lens of Aboriginal culture as our guide relates Dreamtime stories, local tribal customs and points out plants used for traditional medicine and bush tucker.
Day 3. Thursday – Green Island (B,L,D)
We set sail to the tropical paradise of Green Island on the Great Barrier Reef, a protected Marine Park, home to lush rainforest, white sandy beaches, magnificent coral reefs and abundant marine life, including endless varieties of colourful fish, giant clams, sea anemones and turtles. Departing aboard the ‘Reef Rocket’, we enjoy a reef presentation en-route to the island. On arrival there’s plenty of time to snorkel and swim, explore the island on foot and discover the underwater world on a semisubmarine coral viewing tour.
Day 4. Friday – Cairns (B,L,D)
This morning takes us to heritage listed Paronella Park, surrounded by beautiful castles, tunnels, bridges, fountains and secret staircases. Our tour here will guide us through the extensive National Trust Gardens while we learn the rich history of José Paronella’s wonderful achievements and colourful history. We enjoy lunch in this intriguing hideaway and take plenty of time to amble through the property before returning to Cairns.
Day 5.Saturday – Cairns (B,L,D)
This morning is free to explore Cairns, maybe take a stroll at the Esplanade Markets on the Cairns waterfront. We re-group for lunch at the contemporary Aqualuna Restaurant, dining in the ‘Under the Pier’ themed Reef Room surrounded by the watchful eyes of the resident black tip reef sharks. Later we enjoy a guided tour of the Cairns Aquarium, dedicated exclusively to habitats and species of tropical North Queensland.
Day 6. Sunday – Kuranda (B,L,D)
This morning we board the iconic Skyrail Rainforest Cableway for the 7.5km journey to Kuranda, gliding effortlessly above the rainforest canopy of the Barron Gorge National Park. At Kuranda we take a trip on the Army Duck amphibious vehicle and learn about ancient ferns and trees. Then return to Cairns travelling Gold Class on the Kuranda Scenic Railway winding through Barron Gorge and passing spectacular waterfalls. This evening it’s time to go troppo in your loudest tropical attire as we celebrate the finale night of our tour!
Day 7. Monday – Flights home (B)
Enjoy one last tropical Queensland breakfast before we transfer to the airport for our flights home.
