Day 1: Wednesday – Indian Pacific, Sydney
Depart Sydney aboard the Indian Pacific this afternoon and start a true journey of contrasts. As you venture beyond the city limits, settle back, open a book or enjoy the social atmosphere of the lounge. This evening delight in a sumptuous dinner before retiring to your cabin. (D)
Day 2: Thursday – Indian Pacific, Adelaide
Wake up with a coffee as you arrive in Broken Hill, a classic mining town. Here you can explore the beauty of this Silver City on an Off Train Excursion. The remainder of the day is spent onboard watching the passing scenery, chatting with new-found friends over lunch before arriving in the city of Adelaide. On arrival, transfer to your accommodation. Day 3: Friday – Barossa Valley
This world-renowned wine region is a must-see for wine lovers. Full of history, this region is home to more than 80 cellar doors. Visit one of the oldest vineyards in the world, with Shiraz vines planted in 1843. Enjoy up to four wineries/cellar doors and be guided through the wine tasting experience by passionate vignerons. Two wine regions combine to make up the Barossa: Eden Valley for amazing Riesling and cool climate wines, and Barossa Valley, home to some of the world’s best Shiraz as well as Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon Mataro, Semillon and Chardonnay. Day 4: Saturday – Adelaide
Today is yours to discover Adelaide at your own pace. Do a spot of shopping in Rundle Mall, take the tram to the seaside suburb of Glenelg or, if you are feeling adventurous, book an additional tour to further taste the state of South Australia. (B)
Day 5: Sunday – McLaren Vale
Depart the city and take the coastal route to the Fleurieu Peninsula. The beautiful mid-south coast, with its glistening vistas of Gulf St Vincent and pristine beaches, greets you on your arrival in McLaren Vale wine region. Pass through rolling vineyards to visit up to five beautiful wineries in the Vale. Each one is steeped in history, with friendly, knowledgeable staff happy to guide you through each wine tasting experience. Best known for Shiraz, the region also boasts exceptional Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay, as well as Spanish and Italian varieties such as Fiano, Vermentino, Tempranillo, Mouvedre, Nero d’Avola and Sangiovese. Day 6: Monday – Adelaide
This morning after breakfast, check out of your hotel or, if you are not in a hurry, extend your stay. (B)
