Day 1 Tuesday: Brisbane to Charleville
Depart Brisbane on The Westlander to Charleville. Overnight: Onboard The Westlander. (DB)
Day 2 Wednesday: Charleville to Quilpie
Arrive into Charleville and transfer by coach to Quilpie. Time to relax and have some free time to experience some of Quilpie’s unique attractions. Overnight: Quilpie (D)
Day 3 Thursday: Quilpie
Time to join the Outback Mail Run as your Skinny Dingo Guide delivers mail and supplies to 10 remote cattle and sheep stations. On this 400km journey you will travel through the original Thylungra Holdings, a property made famous by the Durack family that was the starting point for their courageous cattle drive to open up the vast Kimberly region in Western Australia. Your journey starts beside the Bulloo River before entering opal country. Take a tour of Alaric Station now a retreat for Vietnam veterans. Travel on outback roads. Enjoy a traditional smoko at Trinidad Station with Margaret Peglar, whose garden is part of Colin Campbell’s Garden Tours. Call into historical Thylungra on the way home and see where the “Kings in Grass Castles” legends started. Enjoy dinner and entertainment around the campfire (seasonal mid May to mid Sep). Day 4 Friday: Quilpie to Brisbane
Take a tour around Eromanga, the township known for its oil, recent dinosaur discoveries and early opal heritage. Visit local attractions including the opal lecturn at St Finbarr’s church. Browse the opal shops in the main street and have lunch (own expense) before rejoining the coach back to Charleville and transferring to the train station for your return journey to Brisbane. Day 5 Saturday: Brisbane
Arrive in Brisbane this morning. (B)
Departs: Tuesdays from Brisbane at 7.15pm
Returns: Saturdays to Brisbane at 11.25am
