Day 1. Monday – Melbourne – King Island (D)
Fly into Melbourne where we transfer to Essendon Airport for our flight to King Island. This peaceful paradise greets us with beautiful beaches and world class produce including succulent beef, rich gourmet cheese and the freshest crayfish. King Island is sure to awaken all your senses. On arrival we are met by our local guide to take in a town tour of Currie, including the iconic Boathouse and Currie Harbour, before checking-in to our hotel then dining out tonight in Currie. 3 Night Stay: Island Breeze Motel, Currie **Please note: Accommodation on King Island is a mix of motel rooms and cabins which can be requested at time of booking.
Day 2. Tuesday – King Island (B,MT,L,D)
Today takes us to the north of the island where we start by visiting Shag Lagoon, a premium birdwatching spot, home to many migratory birds, including the endangered Orange Bellied Parrot. We break in Quarantine Bay for morning tea and a chance to find beautiful seashells and shark eggs. The sights of Whistler Point, Yellow Rock Beach and the Shannon wreck are all visible from here. We travel on through Martha Lavinia Reserve, Penny’s Lagoon and stop by Martha Lavinia Beach, one of Australia’s best surf breaks. Disappointment Bay is anything but as we move on to Cape Wickham Lighthouse, the tallest in the southern hemisphere at 49 metres high and 150 years old. Before finishing for the day, we visit the cheese factory for a quick tasting. After dinner at Wild Harvest in Grassy, we enjoy the sight of the penguins at Grassy Harbour before returning to our hotel.
Day 3. Wednesday – King Island (B,MT,L,D)
Heading south today we stop by the Hybrid Power Station to learn about the island’s proud history of clean energy with the Renewable Energy Integration Project. Passing beautiful Ettrick River, we stop at Millers Bay then Seal Rocks for amazing ocean views. We then discover the intriguing Calcified Forest to see fascinating casts of trees caused by the shifting sand dunes. It’s an easy 650m graded walk each way before we break at Cafe Brewer for a welldeserved lunch including a famous King Island cheese platter. In Grassy Harbour there’s time to unearth the town and mine before our farm tour with Fred and Shona Perry who own and operate one of King Island’s most successful family beef operations. Tonight’s finale dinner is catered by Dwane Rooks, one of the island’s top chefs, a fitting farewell to our time in this gastronomic paradise. GGP
Day 4. Thursday – King Island to Melbourne (B)
This morning we head to King Island Airport for our flight to Essendon Airport followed by our transfer to Tullamarine and onward journey home.
