DAY 1 Saturday – Depart Sydney or Brisbane to Johnnesburg (Meals in-flight,D)
Depart on QF63 at 10.50am from Sydney International Airport crossing the international dateline to arrive at Johannesburg International Airport at 5.10pm the same day. We meet up with our private guide for transfers to our hotel.**Domestic connector from Brisbane on QF509 departs for Sydney at 8.00am. Overnight Stay: The Michelangelo Hotel, Sandton City
DAY 2 Sunday – Premier Mine, Pretoria (B,L,D)
Sleep in this morning or spend some time shopping in the Sandton City precinct. At midday depart to visit the Premier Mine, where the world’s biggest diamond was discovered in 1905 – a unique 66 facet cut. See the “big hole”, the shaft and the diamond room showcasing uncut diamonds and replicas of world-famous diamonds. Continue on to the administrative capital of South Africa, Pretoria. DAY 3 Monday – Blue Train (B,L,D)
Depart on the Blue Train overnight rail journey staying in deluxe suites. From Pretoria to Cape Town indulge in luxury and forced relaxation as we savour tantalizing tastes and moments, magnificent views and captivating experiences, including an offtrain-excursion in Kimberley. DAY 4 Tuesday – Cape Town (B,L,D)
Arrive in Cape Town mid-afternoon where we are met and transferred to our perfectly positioned hotel in the heart of the V&A Waterfront. Here you can stroll along the waterfront and shop till you drop at the Alfred Mall and Clock Tower Shopping Centre with its range of art, jewellery and specialty shops, as well as African craft and design. DAY 5 Wednesday- Cape of Good Hope, Funicular, Boulders Beach (B,L,D)
Take the famous scenic drive to Chapman’s Peak before reaching Cape of Good Hope nature reserve. Next we take a trip on The Flying Dutchman Funicular, up to the lighthouse at 286m above sea level, taking in spectacular views. Our afternoon is spent at Boulders Beach, home of an endangered land-based colony of African penguins. We continue via Tokai and Constantia Neck to Hout Bay and the Twelve Apostles where we enjoy a spectacular sunset and canapés.
DAY 6 Thursday – Table Mountain, Robben Island (B,D)
We take an Aerial Cableway to the summit of Table Mountain taking time to admire the spectacular city and inland mountain views. Enjoy some free time before we catch a ferry across Table Bay to Robben Island where Nelson Mandela spent 18 of his 27 years in prison. Meeting a former political prisoner, we see Mandela’s cell in the prison and hear what life was like for prisoners there. This evening experience, the Gold of Africa Museum taking a ‘taste safari’ on a set 15 course menu with an interactive Djembe drumming session and unique live entertainment. (lunch own expense)
DAY 7 Friday – ‘Garden of Eden’ drive (B,L,D)
Over the next 4 days we take a journey through South Africa’s ‘Garden of Eden’ and experience glorious scenery of pristine beaches, mountains, forests, lakes and rivers. Departing Cape Town we travel along Route 62 to Barrydale, then on to Oudtshoorn for a guided tour at a working ostrich farm before checking-in to our hotel. DAY 8 Saturday – Cango Caves, Keurbooms River Cruise (B,L,D)
This morning we take time at Cango Caves to discover the dripstone caverns and towering formations. In the lagoon side town of Knysna, known as ‘the gem of the Garden Route’, we take some free time before continuing on to The Crags near Plettenberg Bay. Here we embark on a cruise along the Keurbooms River. Overnight Stay: Plettenberg Hotel & Spa, Plettenberg
DAY 9 Sunday – Birds of Eden, Port Elizabeth (B,L,D)
This morning we visit Birds of Eden, the largest free-flight bird aviary in the world, before our journey continues along the final leg of the Garden Route to the beautiful Tsitsikamma National Park. Enjoy a walk along the suspension bridge across the Storms River Mouth Gorge then finish our day at Port Elizabeth. Overnight Stay: The Boardwalk Hotel & Casino, Port Elizabeth
DAY 10 Monday – Thornybush Game Reserve (B,D)
An early breakfast at the hotel before transferring to Port Elizabeth Airport for our flight to Johannesburg we are met and assisted to our connecting flight to Hoedspruit Airport. We transfer to Thornybush Game Reserve located on 11,500 hectares of pristine African bushveld in the Olifants Valley. The reserve is adjacent to the Timbavati Game Reserve and borders the world famous Kruger National Park, making it a premier game viewing area, with a huge diversity of mammal and bird species. 3 Night Stay: Thornybush Game Lodge
DAY 11 & 12 Tuesday & Wednesday – Thornybush Game Reserve (B,L,D)
Thornybush Game Lodge offers a traditional safari experience and luxurious accommodation suites line the banks of a seasonal river and the rooms feature private decks with bush views. The reserve is predominantly open savannah, which is prime habitat for healthy cheetah and white rhino populations. There are plenty of ways to encounter the Big 5 here, from guided game drives to interpretive bush walks and walking safaris. DAY 13 Thursday – Flight to Johannesburg (B,D)
Depart Thornybush Game Lodge for Hoedspruit Airport and our flight to Johannesburg where we are transferred to our hotel for an afternoon at leisure before dinner at a local restaurant. Overnight Stay: Peermont Dóreale Grande Hotel
DAY 14 Friday – Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe (B,L,D)
After an early breakfast we transfer to OR Tambo Airport to fly to Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe where we clear immigration and transfer to our hotel. Tonight, we enjoy a fusion of African flavours and entertainment at the Jungle Junction gazing over the gorge and the spray of the Falls. 2 Night Stay: Victoria Falls Hotel, Victoria Falls
DAY 15 Saturday – Victoria Falls (B,L,D)
Experience epic views of one of the world’s largest and most incredible waterfalls on our private Victoria Falls walking tour. As we marvel at one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World we also visit an ancient baobab tree and explore the vast gorge where the roaring Zambezi River flows. Hike on rugged rainforest trails and learn about the unique flora and fauna that are native to this part of Africa. At the hotel enjoy a poolside BBQ lunch and free afternoon before dining tonight in the elegant Livingstone Room.
DAY 16 Sunday – Johannesburg (B,D)
Farewell the mighty Victoria Falls after breakfast and transfer to the airport to return to Johannesburg where we have our final night together. Overnight Stay: Da Vinci Hotel, Sandton City
DAY 17 Monday – Soweto, Flight to Australia (B,L,meals in-flight)
Today we discover Soweto, a sprawling cluster of townships on the south western flank of Johannesburg. Highlights of this tour include the footbridge of the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, the Hector Pieterson Museum as well as Nelson Mandela’s humble little house, which is now the Mandela Family Museum. After lunch we visit The Apartheid Museum then transfer to Johannesburg International Airport where we bid Southern Africa good-bye and board our flight to Sydney/Brisbane
DAY 18 Tuesday – Arrive Australia (Meals in-flight)
Cross the international dateline arriving at Sydney International Airport in the afternoon. After clearing Australian immigrations and customs we connect onwards to our Brisbane bound flight, arriving in the evening.
