DAY 1 Sunday – Depart Brisbane (Meals in flight)
Depart with Air Canada Airlines from Brisbane International Airport. We cross the dateline and arrive in Vancouver. Clear customs and board the connector flight to arrive in Calgary at midday. On arrival in Calgary, we are met and transferred by coach for check-in to our hotel. Tonight enjoy a specialty welcome dinner at the Calgary Tower. 1 Night Stay: Calgary Fairmont Palliser Hotel.
DAY 2 Monday – Canadian Rockies, Banff Gondola (B,L,D)
Today our journey takes us to Kananaskis where the highlight of today’s adventure is a twelve minute Summit Helicopter tour over the remarkable landscape of the Canadian Rockies. We enjoy a Western style lunch at Boundary Ranch. Departing Kananaskis we continue on and travel via Bow Falls, Lake Minnewanka, Surprise Corner and the Hoodoos. A stop will be made at the Banff Gondola to ride to the summit for a breathtaking view of snow-capped peaks and valleys, finishing the day at our hotel. 2 Night Stay: The Rimrock Resort Hotel Banff or similar.
DAY 3 Tuesday – Yoho National Park, Lake Louise, Banff (B,L,D)
Today we explore Yoho National Park offering magnificent natural wonders like the Spiral Tunnels, the turquoise serene waters of Emerald Lake and a natural Rock Bridge spanning the Kicking Horse River. Enjoy free time and then lunch at the beautiful Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise. Return back to Banff.
DAY 4 Wednesday – Rocky Mountaineer train, Kamloops (B,L,D)
Transfer to the Banff railway station where we board the Rocky Mountaineer train. Travelling in GoldLeaf class with glass-domed windows, puts you right in the middle of the awe-inspiring scenery of the Canadian Rockies. The journey takes us through a spectacular array of scenery travelling between the glacier and snow-capped mountain peaks, over mountain passes and through remarkable tunnels, along rocky lakeshores and across the ranch lands. Today’s highlights include the Continental Divide, the Spiral Tunnels, the Kicking Horse Canyon, Rogers Pass and Craigellachie – where the last spike of the Canadian Pacific Railway was driven. Arriving at Kamloops in the heart of British Columbia’s interior to overnight off train. 1 Night Stay: Kamloops.
DAY 5 Thursday – Rocky Mountaineer train, Vancouver (B,L,D)
Our journey continues west and again we will encounter dramatic changes in scenery, from the desert-like environment of the interior, through winding river canyons and pristine forests, to the Coast and Cascade Mountains and the lush green fields of the Fraser River Valley. Highlights include the steep slopes and rock sheds along the Thompson River and the rushing waters of Hell’s Gate in the Fraser Canyon. On arrival in Vancouver, we are met and transferred by coach for check-in to our hotel. 2 Night Stay: Vancouver Fairmont Hotel.
DAY 6 Friday – Victoria, Vancouver (B,L,D)
Today we discover Victoria, starting with a 90 minute sail, travelling across the Strait of Georgia and past the Gulf Islands. Visit the world-famous Butchart Gardens to take time to enjoy lunch and then explore some of the 55 acres of breathtaking floral displays on offer. This afternoon you are free to explore the city on your own before re-boarding our coach for transfers back to Vancouver.
DAY 7 Saturday – Inside Passage of Alaska Cruise (B,L,D)
Today, we transfer to the Vancouver cruise ship terminal to embark aboard Holland America’s ms Nieuw Amsterdam for our 7 night cruise of the Inside Passage of Alaska. Our Verandah (VC) Stateroom’s offer floor to ceiling windows opening onto a private balcony to enjoy the awe-inspiring views of the fjordlined Inside Passage of Alaska. 7 Night Stay: ms Nieuw Amsterdam.
DAY 8 Sunday – Inside Passage (B,L,D)
Enjoy a full day at sea sailing through the dramatic Inside Passage. Relax and take in the incredible scenery cut from the coastal mountains by glaciers millions of years ago. The fjords of Canada’s Inside Passage offer cruise guests spectacular coastal rainforests, beaches, waterfalls and stunning mountains.
DAY 9 Monday – Tracy Arm, Juneau (B,L,D)
Today sail Tracy Arm and a port call at Juneau. This spectacular 26 mile long glacier-carved fjord has sheer vertical walls of glacier showcasing Mother Nature at her best inside Tongass National Forest. Located at the foot of grand mountain peaks on the Gastineau Channel, the town of Juneau has the massive Mendenhall Glacier and the immense Juneau Icefields at its back door. This area is a playground for whales, eagles, Orca, bears and a wonderful array of seabirds.
DAY 10 Tuesday – Skagway (B,L,D)
Today we have a port call in Skagway, Alaska the living historical centre of the past Gold Rush era. You are free to poke into every little store from the Trail Bench to Lynch and Kennedy’s Dry Goods. Visit The Red Onion Saloon, with its honky tonk piano and costumed barmaids. Take time to visit the nostalgic Trail of 98 Museum before reboarding.
DAY 11 Wednesday – Glacier Bay National Park (B,L,D)
Today we sail into the Biosphere Reserve and UNESCO World Heritage Site, Glacier Bay National Park. Glacier Bay has spectacular unique displays of ice and iceberg formations. The Bay has more actively calving tidewater glaciers than anyplace else in the world with an ever-changing glacial landscape. Bring out the camera and listen for the thunderous sound of chunks of ice, splitting from a glacier, as it crashes into the bay. The area is home to an amazing world of marine life.
DAY 12 Thursday – Ketchikan (B,L,D)
Our port of call today is Ketchikan, Alaska. Built out over the water and climbing weathered stairways, Ketchikan clings to the shores of Tongass Narrows and drapes the mountains with a cheerful air. If you wish you can explore Creek Street, the Tongass Historical Museum, Totem Bight State Park and Saxman Village.
DAY 13 Friday – Inside Passage (B,L,D)
Our final day cruising the fabled Inside Passage, a coastal route carved by glaciers and blanketed with majestic hemlock and spruce, the Passage is a region of pristine water, snow-capped mountains, deep fjords and forested islands. One of the most scenic sea-lanes in the world, and one of the few where deep draft vessels can sail.
DAY 14 Saturday – Vancouver Sightseeing (B,L,D)
After breakfast we disembark the ms Nieuw Amsterdam in Vancouver. We will be met by our coach captain for a full day Vancouver sightseeing tour. Highlights today include visits to Gastown, stopping at the “Top of Vancouver” for an unobstructed view of the city, the coastal mountains and the ocean. We break for lunch at 1,000 acre Stanley Park, move onto the Totem Poles and Prospect Point overlooking Lions Gate Bridge. Our afternoon is spent heading along English Bay Beach and then onto Granville Island. Enjoy some free time before dinner, then transfer to Vancouver International Airport for our Air Canada Airlines late evening flight bound for Brisbane, Australia.
DAY 15 Sunday – Flight Home (Meals in-flight)
In-flight as we cross the International dateline.
DAY 16 Monday – Arrive Brisbane (Meals in-flight)
Arrival to Brisbane International Airport early morning.
