13 Days Coastal Capers

Day 1. Departure

Depart for your journey on the Sunlander in either your choice of seat or sleeping berth to Tropical Townsville.

Day 2. Explore Townsville and visit Castle Hill

Arrive in time for lunch, then a Townsville City Orientation Tour, including Castle Hill where you will have a lovely photo opportunity. Time to relax and freshen up before a 2 course dinner. (L,D)

Day 3. Tours of Magnetic Island & Museum of Tropical Queensland

Full hot and cold buffet breakfast. Depart for Magnetic Island. Morning tea followed by a coach tour with lunch included. Return to Townsville and visit the Museum of Tropical Qld for a guided tour. 2 course dinner. (B,MT,L,D)

Day 4. Castling Street Heritage Centre, night markets

Full hot and cold buffet breakfast then visit Castling Street Heritage Centre to step back in time and view the 3 fully restored National Trust heritage houses. Depart on the Sunlander to Cairns. Arrive Hides Hotel in the heart of town. Your tour host will take you on a short stroll to the night markets if you wish. (B)

Day 5. Lake Barrine, Hou Wang Temple, Crystal Caves & Kuranda Skyrail

Continental buffet breakfast then depart for Tablelands stopping at Lake Barrine for Devonshire Tea, then on to Hou Wang Temple, to learn about the Chinese influx during the Gold Rush era. Next stop Crystal Caves; view crystals recovered after millions of years! After lunch visit Kuranda for a scenic journey down the mountain on the Skyrail. Dinner on veranda. (B,MT,L,D)

Day 6. Fabulous Fitzroy Island

Continental breakfast this morning then the day visiting beautiful Fitzroy Island with a delicious tropical luncheon. Explore the underwater sea life without getting your feet wet in the Glass Bottomed Boat tour and relax and enjoy all this stunning island has to offer. Return this afternoon for dinner on the colonial veranda. (B,L,D)

Day 7. Cruise the Trinity Inlet

Continental breakfast then embark on calm water cruise up the Trinity Inlet. While you relax and enjoy the views, an experienced guide will explain the history and culture of the area including knowledge of the local flora and fauna. We will return to Cairns for lunch and give you a leisurely afternoon to relax or explore on your own before dinner this evening. (B,MT,L,D)

Day 8. Mossman Gorge, Daintree River, Cape Tribulation, Daintree Discovery Centre

Continental breakfast, then depart by bus for a great day of touring. Firstly a picturesque drive up the coast to Port Douglas. Then on to Mossman Gorge and the Daintree River for morning tea and a boat cruise. The group will make our way to Cape Tribulation. After lunch you will visit the Daintree Discovery Centre to walk along the boardwalks right in the heart of the rainforest. Travel across the river by vehicular cable ferry returning to Cairns Hides hotel for dinner. (B, L, D)

Day 9. Travel from Cairns to Proserpine onwards to Airlie Beach

After a continental breakfast, depart on the Tilt Train to our next destination, the magical Whitsundays. Transfer to Club Crocodile Airlie Beach for the night. (B)

Day 10. Airlie Beach tour, lunch at the Yacht Club and Long Island Resort

Following a hot and cold buffet breakfast we will explore Airlie Beach and surrounds by coach stopping for lunch at the Yacht Club. Explore the main street of Airlie Beach and get those souvenirs, or just relax and enjoy overlooking the azure tropical waters. Transfer by ferry to beautiful Long Island where you will have a chance to freshen up before dinner. (B,L,D)

Day 11. Relax and enjoy Long Island Resort

Following a hot and cold buffet breakfast a leisurely morning followed by a tropical Island style buffet luncheon after which you can just relax under a palm tree or if you feel more energetic our tour host will arrange bocce, mini golf, fish feeding and also exploring some of the scenic walking tracks on offer on the island. Dinner in the Restaurant this evening. (B,L,D)

Day 12. Daydream Island Discovery

Full hot and cold buffet breakfast then transfer to Daydream Island. Your tour host will give an orientation talk and help co ordinate activities whilst on the island. Watch the fish feeding in the coral reef lagoon, and then enjoy a delicious lunch at Mermaids Restaurant. The group will depart this afternoon to Club Crocodile Resort Airlie Beach for dinner in the resort’s restaurant. We will then depart to the train station for our return journey on board The Sunlander. (B,L,D)

Day 13. Arrive Home

Today you will arrive at your home station after enjoying a scenic rail journey encompassing the best of the Queensland coast with your new found friends.
