DAY 1 – Arrive Broome (D)
Flights arrive into Broome Airport where we are met by our local coach captain to transfer to our hotel in the heart of this town affectionately known as the ‘pearl of the north’. 2 Night Stay: Oaks Resort, Broome
DAY 2 – Broome touring (B,L,D)
Arrive at Willie Creek Pearl Farm to discover how the Australian South Sea Cultured Pearl is produced. After lunch we take in a visit to the Pearl Riggers Museum then make a brief stop at Broome’s cemetery, filled with the gravestones of Japanese, Afghan and Malay pearlers. An adventurous finish to our day taking a camel safari ride along Cable Beach with the sun setting out to sea. It is magical beyond belief, with the sea wind in your hair, the outback stretching out one side and the Indian Ocean to the other. **Please note: 90kg weight restrictions apply to camel ride.
DAY 3 – Derby, Fitzroy Crossing (B,L,D)
Heading east we travel the Great Northern Highway to the township of Derby, the first town settled in the Kimberley, and home of the Boab Tree. We break for lunch here then make a visit to the Information Centre and Derby Wharf before continuing on to Fitzroy Crossing for our overnight stay. 1 Night Stay: Fitzroy River Lodge, Fitzroy Crossing
DAY 4 – Geikie Gorge, Halls Creek (B,L,D)
This morning we check-out and head to Geikie Gorge to take a cruise on the Fitzroy River. Witness the spectacular geography of the area, freshwater crocodiles and abundant birdlife, and gain insight into the Kimberley region’s rich indigenous history and culture. We return to Fitzroy River Lodge for lunch then travel through the open grasslands of the cattle stations to Halls Creek. 1 Night Stay: Halls Creek Motel
DAY 5 – Argyle Diamond Mine, Kununurra (B,L,D)
Departing Halls Creek we parallel the Durack Range to the Argyle Diamond Mine. We take in a ground tour of the mine, the world’s largest supplier of natural coloured diamonds, from exotic champagne diamonds to the remarkably rare pink diamond. After lunch we take an amazing scenic flight over Lake Argyle, the Bungle Bungle Range and the Argyle Diamond Mine landing at Kununurra. 2 Night Stay: Kununurra Lakeside Resort, Kununurra
DAY 6 – Ord River Cruise (B,L,D)
A relaxed and awe-inspiring day today as we cruise the famous Ord River with its majestic appeal, rugged landscapes and plentiful wildlife. After lunch we return through Durack country to Kununurra for a free afternoon.
DAY 7 – Timber Creek, Katherine (B,L,D)
This morning we cross the border into the Northern Territory before breaking at Timber Creek. We then venture east along the Victoria Highway, stopping for lunch at Victoria River Crossing, before continuing on to the thermal hot springs on the outskirts of Katherine. 1 Night Stay: Ibis Styles, Katherine
DAY 8 – Katherine River, Kakadu National Park (B,L,D)
Enjoy a guided gorge cruise on the tranquil calm green waters of the Katherine River taking in some of the park’s 13 gorges. Later we travel to Pine Creek for lunch at the unique Lazy Lizard Tavern which is constructed from termite mound mud bricks. Our afternoon takes us to the picturesque and refreshing Edith Falls then into World Heritage listed Kakadu National Park, a landscape of contrasts that spans over 19,000sq km and will tantalise the senses with its abundance of flora, fauna, dreamtime connections and stunning vistas. 2 Night Stay: Mercure Kakadu Crocodile Hotel
DAY 9 – Kakadu National Park (B,L,D)
Taking to the skies we enjoy a 25-minute scenic flight over the Archway, Arnhem land escarpments, East Alligator Valley, Mikinj Valley Billabongs and Magela Floodplains. In Jabiru we visit the Bowali Visitor Centre and the Warradjan Aboriginal Cultural Centre, then lunch at Cooinda Lodge before embarking on a Yellow Water Wetlands Cruise, taking in part of the South Alligator River floodplain. Birdlife includes tiny azure kingfishers and white bellied sea eagles, long-legged brolgas, jabirus and masses of magpie geese which migrate to Kakadu each dry season. Buffalo and brumbies roam the area and it’s Crocodylus central with an estimated four crocodiles per 100sqm.
DAY 10 – Kakadu National Park, Return to Darwin (B,L,D)
This morning we traverse the Magela floodplains and pass spectacular escarpments to the aboriginal rock art site of Ubirr where our guide takes us through the natural stone galleries giving an insight into the culture associated with these intriguing works of art. Discover paintings of spirit characters and the famous x-ray art depicting the internal structure of some of the animals of this country. We then make the last leg of our journey to Darwin where we take a city sites tour including a visit to the Museum and Art Gallery that depicts the destructive force of Cyclone Tracy. **Please note: Strict Level 3 active level required today. 2 Night Stay: SKYCITY Hotel & Casino, Darwin
DAY 11 – Litchfield National Park, Darwin (B,L,D)
Today we discover Litchfield National Park taking in the inspiring views of Tabletop Range, a sandstone plateau adorned with a curtain of cascading waterfalls. Marvel at the termite mounds and learn how these astonishing structures are built by armies of tiny insects. We then make our way to Florence Falls look-out before making our way to Litchfield Café for lunch. Our afternoon takes us to nearby Wangi Falls, where year-round currents pour into a large swimming hole. Enjoy a refreshing dip before we make our way back to Darwin. This evening we dine out, enjoying a sumptuous seafood buffet whilst admiring the sunset over Darwin Harbour.
DAY 12 – Depart Darwin (B)
Enjoy breakfast at your leisure before being transferred to the airport where we say our goodbyes and take our respective flights home. A sensational tour, showcasing dramatic landscapes, rugged rock structures, living Aboriginal culture, colossal waterways and incandescent ocean.
