DAY 1 Saturday – Arrive Adelaide, Glenelg (L,D)
Flights arrive in Adelaide where we head to Mt Lofty Summit to take in the magnificent views across the city to the sea at the highest peak of the Mt Lofty Ranges. After an Adelaide city sights tour we check-in to our ocean view rooms. 3 Night Stay: Stamford Grand Adelaide Hotel, Glenelg
DAY 2 Sunday – Barossa Valley (B,MT, L,D)
Our first stop today is the ‘whispering wall’ at the Barossa Reservoir where we experience the unusual acoustic phenomenon of sound travelling from one side to the other over 140 metres. Next we discover Barossa Sculpture Park at Menglers Hill with spectacular views over the Barossa Valley. At the grand Barossa Chateau, we enjoy a Devonshire morning tea followed by a tour of the grounds nestled in a beautiful garden boasting over 30,000 roses. Visit the antiques shop before lunch, then we head back to Adelaide for free time. GGP
DAY 3 Monday – Merry Christmas (B,L,D)
Merry Christmas! We meet for a festive breakfast together. All venues are closed Christmas Day, but your Christmas Day lunch with all the trimmings in the ballroom will be one to remember. Enjoy a long lunch of sumptuous seafood and traditional fare with beverages and celebrate with friends, old and new. GGP
DAY 4 Tuesday – Kangaroo Island (B,L,D)
This morning we transfer to Jervis Bay terminal to board our ferry to the pristine wilderness of Kangaroo Island, pausing at the Cape Willoughby Lighthouse for a photo stop before visiting Dudley Wines. Enjoy tasting handcrafted wines on the deck perched atop Kangaroo Island’s stunning north coast with magnificent views back to the mainland. We then visit Rob’s shearing and sheepdogs, a truly authentic Australian experience. Watch Rob and his dogs skilfully muster and yard sheep, learn about farm life and see a sheep shearing demonstration as you discover the techniques involved in this highly skilled task. 3 Night Stay: Seaside Inn, Kangaroo Island
DAY 5 Wednesday – Kangaroo Island (B,L,D)
Take in the scenery as we drive to Seal Bay Conservation Park where Australian sea lions sunbathe and frolic on a stunning beach. Join your guide for a walk along the beach to get a close look at the sea lion colony, home to around 600 rare Australian sea lions. We then continue on the wildlife trail experiencing the Birds of Prey display and in-flight presentation featuring Australian eagles and hawks. After lunch, we stop at Clifford’s Honey Farm, the only place in the world where a pure strain of the Ligurian Bee exists. Tour the honey room to see the glass beehives, observe the extraordinary process, taste the many different honey flavours produced at the farm and enjoy a honey ice-cream. GGP
DAY 6 Thursday – Kangaroo Island (B,L,D)
This morning we travel along the rugged southern coast of Flinders Chase National Park for a walk among the giant granite boulders, the Remarkable Rocks. We then pass the ruins of an early settlement at Weirs Cove before visiting the natural rock archway, Admirals Arch. We gaze over the Cape Du Couedic coastline and observe the antics of New Zealand fur seals as they play and laze about on the rocks. Next we visit Andermel Marron Farm and Two Wheeler Creek Wines for a marron lunch, wine tasting and a tour of the farm. Our afternoon takes us back to Kingscote for the pelican feeding. GGP
DAY 7 Friday – Hahndorf, Board PS Murray Princess (B,L,D)
After a leisurely breakfast, we are transferred to Penneshaw to board the ferry back to the mainland. We continue on to Australia’s oldest German settlement, Hahndorf, for lunch and free time to experience the charm of this quaint village, followed by a visit to Melba’s Chocolates and Confectionery. See the factory in action making old fashioned liquorice blocks and chocolate coated fruits and nuts (available for purchase). We then make our way to Mannum to board the PS Murray Princess for a 3 night New Year’s Eve Discovery Cruise. Departing Mannum, the birthplace of Murray River trade and communication, we enjoy a Welcome Dinner, cruising under floodlight to our overnight mooring at Mundurra. Watch for kangaroos, wombats, egrets and nocturnal wildlife as the on-board entertainer provides music for the night owls. 3 Night Stay: PS Murray Princess
DAY 8 Saturday – PS Murray Princess (B,L,D)
After a hearty breakfast we transfer to Monarto Zoo, one of the largest openrange zoos in the world. Our guided tour offers a chance to see some of the 50 species of exotic and native mammals including giraffe, zebra, white rhino and cheetah. We re-board in time for lunch then cruise upriver to our overnight mooring at Salt Bush Flat where there is an opportunity to inspect the wheelhouse with the Captain. After dinner, enjoy being entertained by the talented crew.
DAY 9 Sunday – PS Murray Princess, New Year’s Eve Captain’s dinner and dance (B,L,D)
All ashore for a guided nature walk where our guide will share the secrets of the local fauna. Mid-morning we join in a special presentation on the bounty of food and wine produced in the Riverlands, then turn and head downriver to River Lodge. Here, our discovery vessel awaits for a wildlife tour. Travelling in small, personalised groups, we explore the maze of the river and see the amazing birdlife – watch for darters, herons and egrets feeding along the river’s muddy edges. The afternoon offers a choice of bocce or fishing challenges before joining the Captain and officers for pre-dinner drinks and the New Year’s Eve Captain’s dinner and dance.
DAY 10 Monday – Flights home (B)
Happy New Year! After breakfast we dock at Mannum and transfer back to Adelaide for our respective flights home.
