DAY 1 Wednesday – Brisbane to Roma (MT,L,D)

Departing on one of Fun Over Fifty’s signature luxury coaches ‘Diamond Class’ or ‘Gold Class’ from Brisbane Transit Centre on Roma Street, we travel through the rich fertile area of the Lockyer Valley, arriving at Picnic Point Toowoomba, for a cuppa, taking time to admire the stunning view. We continue through Dalby, breaking for lunch at Chinchilla, then make our way to Roma. 1 Night Stay: Explorers Inn, Roma

DAY 2 Thursday – Roma to Carnarvon Gorge (B,MT,L,D)

This morning we get to visit Roma’s Cattle Sales (the largest in Australia). Join a local cattle farmer on the raised walkway around the yards, providing us with an excellent vantage point over the proceedings. We then head north, breaking at Injune, before making our way into the Carnarvon Gorge National Park, an oasis hidden in the rugged ranges of Queensland’s Central Highlands. Featuring towering white sandstone cliffs, spectacular scenery, incredible bushwalks, pockets of rainforest, amazing diversity of flora and fauna, and ancient Aboriginal art and cave paintings. Arrive and check-in to\ unique timber and canvas Safari Cabins that ooze outback charm and blend unobtrusively into the natural bush land. 3 Night Stay: Carnarvon Gorge Wilderness Lodge

DAY 3 Friday – Carnarvon Gorge (B,L,D)

Today we have organised a range of walking tours (not compulsory) with different fitness levels for you to choose. Spot an elusive Platypus on our early morning easy nature trail, or for more adventure embark on the moss garden walk, which offers a rich mosaic of mosses, ferns and lichens where the micro-climate sustains a lush rainforest environment. The Baloon Cave Aboriginal cultural walk is a short walk among the fan palms and cycads and leads to a small sandstone overhang featuring stencilled Aboriginal rock art.

DAY 4 Saturday – Carnarvon Gorge (B,L,D)

Today we have chartered Heli-Central to give you a birds-eye view of the sandstone cliffs and picturesque gorges of the famous Carnarvon National Park. Absolutely the best view of the plateau! Take in a 20-minute flight in a modern, comfortable helicopter and see the white cliffs and hidden wonders that cannot be seen any other way. Sit back and watch as Carnarvon Gorge opens into the vast bushland.

DAY 5 Sunday – Rockhampton and Yeppoon (B,MT,L,D)

For the early risers, you may wish to take a self-guided walk and stroll along the shady banks of Carnarvon Creek that provides a snapshot of the plant life on the gorge floor. Departing our wildlife and wilderness oasis, we travel through cattle and crop country, breaking for a cuppa at Rolleston. We then continue through the Bauhinia Shire and travel the Capricorn Highway, breaking at a charming country pub at Westwood for lunch. Our afternoon takes us through the beef capital, Rockhampton, before making our way to the coastal township of Yeppoon to bed down for the night in our beachfront accommodation. Tonight, we get to let our hair down and have a night of laughs when we visit Footlights Theatre Restaurant for a dinner and show. 1 Night Stay: Salt, Yeppoon

DAY 6/7 Monday & Tuesday – Gladstone, Heron Island (B,L,D)

This morning we travel via the coastal scenic loop back into Rockhampton taking time to drive past some of the famous heritage buildings before heading south to Gladstone. We enjoy a leisurely lunch at the Yacht Club overlooking the busy bustling harbour before taking a short town tour. At 1:30pm we make our way to Gladstone Marina to board our fast cat ferry for transfers to beautiful Heron Island. Located in the World Heritage listed Great Barrier Reef off northern Queensland’s east coast, Heron Island is a haven for nature lovers and is surrounded by pristine beaches and brilliant blue waters. A true coral cay, the island is surrounded by colourful coral teeming with marine life and as a Marine National Park, all flora and fauna is protected. We check-in to our Reef Rooms which are located near the beach and offer filtered water and reef views with a living area which extends out to a private balcony or garden. We enjoy 2 nights at Heron Island Resort where we will join naturalist eco guides for daily activities discovering the birdlife, coral cay formations, and native flora and fauna. At low tide, we take the Reef Walk that will expose some of the most fascinating creatures found on the coral reef. Fast cat transfers take 2 hours and are in open waters. Those who suffer motion sickness are advised to take the necessary precautions Optionally, at additional expense you may like to organise return helicopter transfers from Gladstone. 2 Night Stay: Heron Island Resort in Reef Rooms

DAY 8 Wednesday – 1770 (B,L,D)

We bid beautiful Heron Island goodbye and depart on the 10am fast cat heading back to the mainland where we break for lunch before taking a short journey to the Town of 1770. On arrival at Agnes Water we take in the unspoilt beaches before we visit the Joseph Banks Conservation Park in 1770. It’s part of the Gooreng Gooreng people’s traditional homeland and is considered to be Captain Cook’s first landing place in Queensland. Visit the rock cairn marking Cook’s 1770 shore visit from the Endeavour. We then make our way to check-in to our resort accommodation. 2 Night Stay: Lagoons 1770 Resort & Spa

DAY 9 Thursday – 1770 (B,MT,L,D)

This morning we take the ideal getaway on the Pink Amphibious LARC. The Paradise Tour takes us along the coastline of Eurimbula National Park, where we are given commentary on wildlife and the history of Bustard Bay. We cross four tidal creeks and 4WD drive up the steep climb to the historic Bustard Head Light Station. Return to Lagoons 1770 Resort & Spa.

DAY 10 Friday – Return to Brisbane (B,MT,L)

Homeward bound this morning, we break at historic Childers for a cuppa and time to visit the Palace backpacker memorial. Back on the road our next break is at the historic Hideaway Hotel at Tiaro for a BBQ lunch in the beer garden. We return to Brisbane Transit Centre at approximately 4:30pm.
