Day 1. Sat: Fly Brisbane to Longreach, Winton & Boulia

Depart Brisbane via Qantas Link into Longreach where we join our outback hosts and realise the freedom of the vast open plains and Coolibah lined creeks travelling to Winton and onto Boulia. Enjoy lunch at the Waltzing Matilda Centre before travelling through to Woodstock Hills and onto the Middleton Hotel. En-route to Boulia view the majestic mesas set amongst the open pebbly plains at the Cawnpore Lookout. Arrive into Boulia to check into your accommodation. Overnight Boulia. (LD)

Day 2. Sun: Bedourie, Lake Eyre Basin, Birdsville

This morning explore Boulia’s Min Min Encounter, learning the story surrounding the myth of the mysterious Min Min Light. Departing for Birdsville we travel to Bedourie for lunch where the channel country meets the desert. Traverse the Cuttaburra flood plain before crossing the Cacoory Ruins set amongst some of the toughest country in the heart of the Lake Eyre Basin. We explore the Waddi Trees found in only 3 places on the planet. The species is so old it has survived since the ice age. Arrive Birdsville late afternoon to check into the Birdsville Hotel for a two night stay. (BLD)

Day 3. Mon: Lake Eyre Scenic Flight

Today we take a 3.3 hour flight out over ‘Big Red’, the Eyre Creek (Georgina River), and southbound across the Simpson Desert, over the Kallakoopah Creek, to the Warburton Creek, Warburton ‘Cup’, and Lake Eyre. You will then track north to intercept the Warburton Creek which we will follow as it meanders through the Tirari and Strzelecki Deserts. We continue northbound up over Goyder’s Lagoon, past the ‘Clifton Hills’ Station Homestead, over the ‘Inside Track’ (the original Birdsville Track), up the Diamantina River, over the ‘Pandie Pandie’ Station homestead to Birdsville. On a rotational basis flights will be combined with ground touring visiting the icons of Birdsville, Burke and Wills Tree, Birdsville Race Track, Wirrari Centre, Wolfgang’s art house, Birdsville Billabong and the inland Hospital ruins. In the light of the late afternoon we enjoy happy hour on the edge of Simpson Desert. Be a part of the experience and feel the very soul of Australia as the sun goes down over the heart of the Outback. Back to Birdsville’s Hotel for dinner and a Flying Doctor Auction. Day 4. Tue: Betoota, Windorah

Departing Birdsville we travel to the ghost town of Betoota, then move onto Deon’s Lookout for amazing views of the Diamantina Shire. Travelling onto Windorah we catch up with the Cooper Creek before travelling via Jundah and Stonehenge back into Longreach. Overnight Longreach. (BLD)

Day 5. Wed: Explore Longreach, Return to Brisbane

This morning explore your choice of either the Australian Stockman’s Hall of Fame or Qantas Founders Museum before an early lunch. Depart on Qantas Link returning home after an amazing lifetime experience exploring the Channel Country “Lake Eyre Fantasy Tour” with stories to tell Friends and Family for years. (BL)
