Day 1. Sun: Brisbane to Birdsville

The tour departs Brisbane at 7am and flies west to the outback town of Birdsville (14 seater Cessna Caravan). On this journey you will get a birds eye view of the channel country, a vast system of natural watery veins that is the life blood to this untouched environment. Birdsville is located on the edge of the Simpson Desert and represents the true essence of the Australian Outback. On arrival you will be met by your Skinny Dingo Guide and be taken on a town experience tour which will include a bite to eat at the Birdsville Bakery. Before dusk it’s time to head out to the biggest sandhill in the Simpson Desert, Big Red, for nibblies and refreshments while experiencing a sunset in a truly unforgettable location. Return to town for dinner at the famous Birdsville Hotel. Overnight: Birdsville Caravan Park (LD + Nibbles & Refreshments)

Day 2. Mon: Birdsville to Longreach

The next day begins with a Continental Breakfast before departing at 9.30am for the capital of Queensland’s Outback, Longreach. Arrive at 12pm where you will be met by your Longreach guide and transferred to the famous Stockman’s Hall of Fame. Here you can view the history of the Outback Stockman while enjoying lunch at the Cattleman’s Bar and Grill. It’s then off to the Kinnon & Co’s Station Store for a chance to purchase some outback souvenirs as well as enjoying a smoko break (afternoon tea) of scones and tea. After smoko it’s time to experience Kinnon & Co’c old fashioned Cobb and Co ride, on the award winning ‘A Gallop through the Scrub’ tour. It is then off to the Thompson River for some time to relax and to reflect on the day’s activities as you enjoy dinner and a ride on the paddle boat, the ‘Longreach Belle’. Overnight: Longreach (BLSD)

Day 3. Tue: Longreach to Lady Elliot Island, Great Barrier Reef

Sadly it’s time to say goodbye to the Outback and set your sights on the Great Barrier Reef and all the treasures that await on Lady Elliot Island. Departing Longreach at 9am, you will arrive at Lady Elliot Island at 12.30, in time for a buffet lunch. After lunch, it’s ‘reef time’ where you will have the opportunity to enjoy a combined glass bottomed snorkeling boat trip. Later on, take some time to check out the island and all the attractions this stunning location has to offer. Why not head to the Lagoon Bar at sundown before enjoying a buffet dinner. Overnight: Lady Elliot Island Reef Units (BLD)

Day 4. Wed: End of Tour

After a buffet breakfast it’s time to relax, perhaps extend your stay on the island or take one of our discounted air transfers to either Bundaberg, Hervey Bay, Maroochydore, Brisbane or the Gold Coast (Transfers must be booked prior to departure of tour).

Notes on Lady Elliot Island

At Lady Elliot Island on the Great Barrier Reef, you can step off the beach and snorkel, swim or dive in an underwater holiday world of brilliantly coloured species of marine life, or just simply relax and soak in the natural island atmosphere. The lagoon protects and nurtures the curiosity of the beginners while a little further out experienced snorklers and divers descend to see the coral sea.

Lady Elliot Island is one of only six island resorts on the Great Barrier Reef, Australia, and one of only three with direct flight access to the island airstrip. The island is located within the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park in the highest possible classification of Marine National Park Zone by GBRMPA. Lady Elliot is an island teeming with life and live corals, famous for a resident population of 40 Manta Rays which form the iconic logo of the island.

Tour the reef in a glass bottomed boat, learn to scuba dive, feed the fish, take a guided reef walk or stroll to a deserted beach and live the dream. With exceptionally clear water year round, you may encounter turtles, dolphins and a large variety of coral, fish and giant manta rays. If you are there for the right season you may see birds nesting, turtle hatchlings emerging from the sand or migrating humpback whales blow and breech.
